The photos were great and we chose this over a lot of other reasonably priced places, arrived and the walls were filthy, cupboards falling apart, dishwasher didn’t go, elevators were tiny, power points barely attached to the walls, bathroom wouldn’t lock and mostly the bedroom sliding door wouldn’t stay shut kept sliding open, The staff (only saw one woman) were amazing got us extra towels etc when asked, but nonetheless won’t be retuning
I was looking for simple, functional, inexpensive accommodation in or near the Auckland CBD for my 2-night stay. This property filled the bill quite well. The room furnishings are basic but functional. I opted for a larger, "Superior" room, as the incremental daily cost for that room was small compared to the extra room provided. It was worth the extra few dollars - the room was still fairly small, but it had ample room to move around, a small desk, wall-mounted TV, a shelving unit with a mini-fridge, and in-room coffee and tea. The large bed was comfortable, but it may have been created by putting two twins side by side and using large blankets and sheets, as there were some noticeable ridges when lying in it. These, however, did not keep me from getting a decent night's sleep, as there was plenty of room to find a comfortable position. Room was in excellent repair - spotlessly clean, newer carpet, decent paint. Bathroom was equally spotless with ample towels, shampoo, body wash, conditioner available. Shower provided a steady stream of "hot enough" water. Front desk service was excellent - cordial, professional, helpful. Location is 1/2 block off of Queen Street, uphill from the main CBD. A variety of bus lines travel Queen Street and nearby cross streets, so it isn't difficult to navigate around on public transportation, including fairly easy to get to/from Auckland Airport. Overall very good value for the price paid. Rooms are available on many websites, but I found special rates on the parent company's website (VR Hotels, New Zealand).…
This hotel is up the end of Queen Street near the "K Road" or Karangahape Road which is an entertainment area filled with cafes, bars, clubs and a colourful LGBTI community. The hotel is clean and staff are nice and polite. My room was fine but the shower didn't work at all at 3am when I need to leave to get an early morning flight so a bit inconvenient. Otherwise it's a good budget hotel option in the downtown area.
The rooms we were able to see were dirty, small, and not at all like the pictures on the booking sites. The walls, doors, and windows are not at all sound proofed and we were continuously woken up by noises outside or by guests returning to their rooms at all hours of the night. Our particular room was barely surface clean. There was a tear in the carpet and one of the chairs was covered in all manner of stains. I am amazed that the hotel would leave a chair in that condition in the room. The bathroom was okay but there was fan constantly blowing cold air into the room directly over the shower. While showering you would be absolutely freezing if you were not directly under the water. There was not way to turn this fan/vent off. The room we booked came with a continental breakfast. The breakfast was actually served in a separate hotel next door. When visiting the breakfast we were informed that it only applied to the cold items and it was suggest that we could purchase the upgraded hot breakfast. The hotel has very limited parking and they did not have any availability when we checked in so we needed to use alternative offsite parking. The location is acceptable and the staff was friendly but those are the only really positive things that can be said about our stay. If you are considering a hotel in this area I would suggest the Mercure across the street which is likely to result in a better experience for roughly the same price.…
I have stayed in this Hotel on several occasions. The Staff. House keeping are just So professional. Friendly. They cannot do enough to help out. Love to get back each Evening to a nice sparkling clean Room. I would Not hessitate to recommend to others. Great Location too. Thanks. Mike
Ascotia off Queens is probably the best deal you can find for good quality hotel rooms in Auckland. For a lower price point than a room in a CBD hostel, you can have a clean, comfortable, and private hotel room that is within walking distance to all the amenities of CBD and K Road. No complaints, would totally come back.
We stayed in Ascotia off queen for 11 nights . After a long drive from hokitika to auckland we were delighted to be checked in by a friendly and helpful receptionist Ethal . We made some changes in our booking because of lockdown and she was quick to dealt with all amendments. Room was lovely, perfectly clean , comfortable and spacious ( which is rare to find in auckland at this price). The hotel is situated conveniently in the heart of CBD.I think this hotel is worth every penny and I will definitely stay here again Thank you Ethal once again for lovely stay and great start to our Auckland trip. YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB. Sumit, Upasana and Ivaan
Very friendly and helpful staff and room was nice and tidy. Would recommend. Trip advisor wants 200 characters minimum so I’m am typing this out to meet that silly 200 character minimum but I am still short soooooooooo
Thank you Rochelle, Ethel, Liz and all the beautiful staff. I was truly and suitably impressed with my stay at your hotel. First class in every respect, convenient location my room was immaculately clean and serviced. As for the service I could only describe it as being absolutely flawless. Consummate in every respect.
Average stay, nothing too special. Provides all the standard requirements. If you’re looking for something cheap and in the city, this is the place to go. The customer service here is great, there was an issue with the booking and they sorted that issue quickly.
