Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Would not recommend. You are surrounded by neighbours on all sides, the walls constantly vibrate and all I hear is base music, television and stomping. In the time that I stayed there, I heard numerous fighting, domestics right outside the front door of the complex, its intimidating and definitely played on my anxiety. I could hear the neighbours flush as the water pipes were right behind my wall and the entire complex is made of corrugated iron which creaked most of the night due to cooling. It does have free parking on the road, but I wouldn't trust my car to be parked in unsecure parking in this area.

great place to stay, until you question the manager John. Ask for something to be fixed, copy of tenacy agreement then your screwed. Runs the place by threats and lies. Very tidy and clean though. John is just a bully!

This lodge is a great place to stay, convenient and affordable. The "furniture package". (a non-refundable $225 for a cheap bed, a cane chair and table that are not really suitable as they are too large and take up a lot of room in the very small studio unit and another wooden chair that fits under a built in desk) - bit of a joke really.
What lets this place down is the managers, John and Karen are unreliable in replying to messages and do not pay back the bond or monies owed within the 3-5 working days as stipulated in the tenancy agreement.
As with the previous reviewer states "know your rights" - I have not been paid what I am owed and have applied to the tenancy tribunal.

Apart from the fact that the building needs a lot of renovations done and a change in the type of tenants that come and go from there. I really enjoyed my 5 years there. The manager Karen is an amazing hard working dedicated lady, that by the looks for things always goes above and beyond her call of duty! The rooms are always spotlessly clean when you arrive, although the furniture needs to be replaced and more thought should have been put in when building the rooms as they can be quite tricky to furnish. But all in all for a long term tenant, whose quiet, keep to themselves and obviously needs to be respectful of others this place is convenient and I would definitely recommend it!

DO NOT STAY HERE.
I lived there for eight months.
The manager John is a bully!
It is not a lodge in the ski resort lodge sense of the word.
It is registered as a boarding house. How do I know.. because when I moved out John said it would take two weeks to get my bond refunded. When I enquired with the Bond Agency I was told my bond had not been lodged with them because Maidstone Lodge was considered a boarding house therefore John was not legally obligated to send my bond to the agency.
Also every new tenant is charged a non refundable $250 room furniture fee because the rooms come furnished. I asked to put my own furniture in but I was not allowed, another thing I paid my first weeks rent two days late when the automatic payment was not set up in time and John charged me a $50 late fee.
It also took him three months to get my door key fixed even though I told him I had to leave my door room unlocked because each time I used the key it was getting jammed in the lock.
Lastly the wall radiator in my upstairs loft room stayed on the entire summer and being such a small space my room would get so hot it was unbearable. I was told it couldn't be turned off.
So much wrong with the management of this boarding house and the place itself needs a giant overhaul.
Please do not stay here.
Ps I hope tripadvisor regulators leave THIS review up they wouldn't post the last one.

Not recommended. Some Mongrel Mob gang members (criminals) live there, including the manager's son, and there have been violent incidents. Terrible management. Complaints are greeted with apathy or "if you don't like it go somewhere else". There is a communal kitchen which is hardly ever cleaned.

This is to acknowledge a good change since only staying here with my partner a few weeks until we found a closer residence. The 2/5 only highlights the POOR & lack of CARE & PROFESSIONALISM from the former onsite management as well as the condition we had experienced from the room we had rented (short term) and our dealings with the former management (John and Karen). As we work shifts we were just glad to have a space before we found something more permanent.

Our overall experience of this place left a sour taste due to the ongoing concerns we expressed to them, and found out they were VERY dodgy in how they would allow others to basically rent for cheap as chips and rely on those like myself and partner for our weekly rent. I management to meet the lovely NEW property management who has come onboard since December?? Very nice lady and knows her stuff, which is also a bonus. Before we left we were amazed to how she, the new owner and now hired security (desperately needed) due to the culture of the place gave out, came in and dealt with alot of the riff raff and undesireables straight away. We will most definitely miss some of the genuine good people who do reside there and are proud in living there.

May this be a review for those who do manage such places and also own to take charge and responsibility for how you want your image and name represented well in the community, also for good, hardworking kiwis to stay and live in such places. Only positive things can happen in 2024, wishing the New owner and his team the best - they're doing an amazing job!!! (Mr & Mrs Anonymous).

It was a really NIGHTMARE to get my refund with John and Karen.
They took more than 2 weeks to sort it out with broken promises. In the end they stop answering my messages and I had to get suport from the Citizens Advice Bureau and John was very rude with one of the assistants.
After I paid the bond in advance to keep the room, they came with a small talk about pay $295 of a "non refundable furniture rental package". Obviously I didn't accept it and required my refund straight away. That's why they made so hard for me I reckon.

DEFINITELY DON'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!
