Situated a short distance from Eden Park Rugby grounds, and a short bus ride to the City centre, "Shooters Saloon Bar, Hotel & Cabins" is a small privately run hospitality business with a growing accommodation presence and a dozen new additional "Cabin rooms" currently being made ready, to be released from Nov 2016. The accommodation is simple yet comfortable. The rooms have the necessary amenities and are great value catering to a wide range of international and local guests. The main building has a lovely ambience being built in the mid 1880's and many original features have been retained in the hotel/bar conversion. A mainstay of the business to date is the regular Functions and parties that occur most Friday and Saturday nights making for a lively bar and varied entertainment. At these times the Cabin rooms, being situated away from the bar area maintain their privacy, whilst the cheaper inside rooms by the bar area are more suited to those late to bed or less worried by noise. We would love to have you come and stay at our place. Should you require further information please call or email us and we would be happy to assist you. Safe travels and hopefully we see you soon.

Not far from Eden Park Stadium. Fun large outdoor area with plenty of heaters to keep you cozy. Attentive and friendly owner. Old fashioned house feel to the place with a bizarre fish tank in the bar. Not the kind of place you will find in the CBD, its shabby and quirky which is all part of the charm of the place. We found it an excellent location for drinks before the big game.

Went there post Lions match. It feels like the name says. Good vibe, decent outside area to sit and stand, good service and prices. Was, not surprisingly perhaps, very busy. Basic feel but enjoyed it.

We booked a night here well in advance to attend a concert in Auckland. The rooms were actually new, self-contained units next to the saloon, which was kind of nice (clean, privacy, slightly less noise), but everything else was under renovations, including the showers. The only shower available to all the occupants was INSIDE the saloon, so if you wanted a shower in the evening you would have to go through whatever party was going on in there. There are no kitchen facilities. The only other toilet available to all the occupants had not been renovated, and was pretty gross as it was being torn apart and construction people were using it as well.

Also, we were under the impression that this place was a bar and restaurant, which might be nice if we wanted some food or drink during our stay, but "due to licensing restrictions" it is currently only available for hire for private parties. So the night we were there it was two 21st birthday parties going on. The gate to the saloon building was locked off at night and we had no access to drinking water when we got back from the concert (the tap was attached to the old building).

The manager was a very nice guy, explained everything to us as we were checking in, and even offering to toast our bread behind the bar as we had food with us but no way to cook it. Still, if you are looking to book a night here I would recommend either calling ahead and making sure some of the renos have been completed, or spending a few extra $$ and getting a nicer place.

Close to Kingsland train station (15 minute walk), a petrol station/convenience store, and a few bakeries and takeaways (all within 10-20 minute walk).

Kingsland is a vibrant inner city suburb with lots of interesting bars and eateries to choose from. This bar is not one of them. I wanted to see if what I’d heard about it was true and sadly it was. Let’s start with filthy which describes the state of every corner… surely the owner can afford a decent cleaning service. Shooters attracts a certain demographic and I didn’t feel safe while waiting for my friend so chose to leave. Given there are far better options nearby you’d be mad to drink/ dine or stay here.

Went out for a drink in Kingsland. And found ourselves in rural Alabama instead. What a dreary sad drinking experience. Disinterested service, dirty floors and overpriced beers do not make a a good experience. Choosing from the British reality TV show choices of 'Snog. Marry, Avoid' - this place is Avoid.

Horrific, even if you are desperate. Dirty sheets, dirty glasses. Loud and scummy. Racist owner who will take you for every cent you have. He called a woman'fat bitch' tonight when she called him out for his racist banners. 'Fat bitch' is a weak insult from a dim man.

Former brothel which still plays host to by the hour guests. The one toilet upstairs doesn't lock, the floors are obviously not cleaned regularly as there were visible layers of dirt and dustballs, garbage piled up in corners of the bedroom and rubbish in the hall. There are long termers staying there who seem to be drunks or one step away from vagrants. Very dodgy characters hanging around added to a general "unsafe" feeling. The manager has a very laissez faire attitude and anything can happen to you or people eating/drinking there he's unconcerned as long as he gets paid. There are no facilities (kitchen, lounge, tv room) and forget about using earplugs for the music, the bass shakes the floor and your bed/bunk. Definitely a place to stay as a last resort if you're absolutely desperate for a night.

I booked this looking for a budget backpacker bar with some good lively action! What I got was a courtyard full of private party. The courtyard is not that big so it is hard not to feel in the way when someones family are giving speeches on a 21st Bday. If I thought this was a one off I would assume we were just unlucky on that night but the fact that when we came earlier in the morning the place was festooned in 30th Birthday Balloons ( maybe they got a good deal on those colours as the 21st ones were remarkably similer) and clear up was under way.
No warning of the private party till we had checked in so no way of knowing we were not in for a fun evening with fellow backpackers (there was 1 other than us around). It is obvious they make their money from functions and should stick to this not inflict famiy parties on people.
I can mingle with the best of them but this was like you were the bloke at the bar who just couldn't take the hint and go home!
If you must stay here don't pay extra for a private room as you will be stuck between the bass speaker, the bottle bin and the toilet...pay less and stay in a dorm upstairs where at least you wont have drunk people trying to get into your room thinking its the loo every half hour and you will have access to a more private balcomy.
And just in case management would like to say we didn't bring these issues to their attention we did and their response was "the family know its a backpackers so its fine".
PS Remember to ask for your free wifi as they certainly don't make you aware on check in.

Stayed at Shooters whilst attending the rugby league world cup semi final.
You need to know that this is basic accommodation at a good price. Comfortable bed and shower in the room. Toilet shared
It's noisy (& I mean noisy) if there is a function on.
Shane (the owner) is friendly and helpful with advice.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom cabin and although it was very basically decorated, the beds were really comfy and the rooms had everything we needed - except tables in the bedrooms!!
No food or drink provided, but cafes and bars and shops were close by, so no problem

Will definitelt stay there again if I come up for another rugby game.
