Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Arrived after 8pm, so as advised by hostel owners, an envelope with our key and room details was left out for us. No problems.
We'd booked a 10 bed dorm but were put in a lovely 6 bed dorm, yay! The bunks were so comfortable.
Small lockers are available in the rooms (they are not big enough for a large travellers rucksack but good for valuables I guess.)
No sockets by beds, which is a bit annoying but there are plenty of extension leads so each person has at least two plugs for their electronics.
I had a battery light next to my bed which was ok. Not all the beds in the room had this.
The hostel has a nice vibe, relaxed and pretty quiet so my and my husband slept like babies!
The showers/bathroom are unisex but no problems. The water gets to a good temperature and they were always clean.
The kitchen is large and has everything you could possibly need (except I couldnt find any cooking oil.)
Location is good. We had a car and managed to park on the road outside for free! Uber ride was cheap into town. Lots of nice cafes and restaurants by the hostel too.

Thanks for your review . Mt Eden is in a good part of town and handy to everything you need plus the sunsets from the summit of Mt Eden are well worth the climb.

We originally booked a hostel in Auckland City Centre, but felt very unsafe. We stayed at Oaklands and it was fab - we used the BBQ and the living room for watching some films. Big shout out to Shiv who was working there, and helped and showed us around :)

This hostel is by far the best in Auckland. It’s not like one of there Party hostels in CBD. More like a family of Traveller. If you are up to You can find someone to talk with every time.
Ean & Brenda are 2 lovely hosts which are always helping in every way. The hostel has a wonderful garden in den backyard where you can hang out or eat.
Around the hostel is Mt Eden? Wich is a super nice, with lots of cafes, restaurants and bars, where you could find work. The cherry on the top is the fantastic MT Eden. The summit is reachable in 20 min so perfekt for Sunrise or sunset.
You need ca 20 minutes into CBD by bus or 40 with walking

Stayed for 3 nights, great location, not smack band in the middle of the CBD, however so easy to access everything you need. Since the hostels sits pretty much in Mt Eden Village, 2 min walk to shops, restaurants, caffes. Would def recommend! Clean, small and very homely.

This hostel is perhaps the best I've stayed in. It's so clean, the managers are incredibly ontop of everything, its the most homly hostel I've been too. You can tell there is a lot of pride and love that has gone into the place. It's nice to be out of the city but still only a walk away. It felt like a little retreat or oasis in a beautiful garden filled with bees, flowers and veggies. Other guests were lovely and I had some of the most enjoyable experiences I've had in hostels here. If I come back to Auckland, this is the place I'll be coming to.

Family-run lodge. Ian the owner was real friendly upon check-in. Rooms and toilets were comfortable, Kitchen was spacious. Felt more like a lodge/home than a backpacker hostel.

Location is great too. Central enough, with buses and airport Skybus a short walk away., yet in a pleasant and quiet neighbourhood. Right at the base of Mount Eden, which is worth going up to catch the sunset over Auckland CBD skyline.

Wish I stayed more than the 2 nights there so I could get to know the people.

Hi the best way to us is to catch the skybus. This leaves from the airport every 40 minutes Costs NZ$18.00 and will drop you a 5 minute walk from the hostel. Cheers from Ian Manager Oaklands Lodge
