Stayed 2 nights in this hotel. Location was a definite plus, being with easy walking distance of a good number of restaurants. Parking was secure in the basement, and access was only possible after having the front desk enable the lift to travel to the basement (ie it’s not keyed to the room key like other hotels we’ve stayed at).

The room itself is in definite need of a refresh … over bath shower which can’t be adjusted up or down ( I ended up on my knees to wash my hair), chips out of the floor tiles around the drain, stains on the carpet … basically the room just needs a bit of TLC.

This hotel is very tired. The curtains in room 112 were so old and worn in the bedroom there were holes in the lining where spots of light came through and had what looked like water stains on them. The shower over the bath arrangement in the rooms are terrible so narrow you can't shower without the shower curtain sticking to you. We asked for a tea towel so we could sort our cups etc and we're told that they didn't have any. The wardrobe door had one section just sitting there off the sliders completely unusable. We stay in other grand Chancellor hotels and they are usually better than this. Yes the rate is less as it should be but I would rather pay more and have a better experience. Staff are always helpful and location is great. It's a shame it has been let get so run down.

Not impressed at all. Very noisy room on the second floor overlooking a busy road, no double glazing or noise protection so noisy all night. Room in poor condition, TV not working lightbulbs not working, not cleaned to a decent standard. Other comments passed directly to management.

This hotel gave the best deal for such a central location. Walking distance to Auckland's vibrant viaduct with all it's cool bars and restaurants, this is a great place to stay. I booked directly by ringing the hotel and I felt well looked after and got a better deal for my room and parking than going through an external company. I felt valued as a customer and the service from Brian at reception was outstanding, warm and friendly and very helpful. Secure parking was booked in advance meaning a smooth check-in on arrival. The room was spacious with a separate bedroom, and the lounge has a kitchenette which was very convenient for cooking our bacon and eggs in the morning. The air-con wasn't great but overall I would recommend this hotel to everyone, a very enjoyable stay!

Good location and great pressure in the shower ...shower over bath was a problem for us with mobility problems was told there was no walk in showers bath had a huge chip and floor in bathroom had a tear in it not very hygienic. The road noise was a problem and the bottle collection at 5 in the morning was annoying 🙄 and the fact that they left the visa payment on even though we payed by eftpos is very annoying

As locals we enjoyed our overnight stay, but the room could do with better equipment ie kitchenware, hairdryer.. and clean dishes, I don't mind doing them but when I've paid $143pn to stay in a partially serviced room that is the least I can expect to have in a booking. Some old fittings are still visible and appear as broken phones but are just no longer working these were an eyesore. The carpark facility could be better allowing a way for people to enter without needing to call reception to ask for gates doors and lifts to be unlocked that can become a problem during peak times and isn't suitable for those who come n go regularly. had my plans of been different my review could have been different also, we were in town for an event so the room was basically used to change & wind down afterwards with a cuppa. So for this reason I'd give a 6/10

We took a month long trip to New Zealand from Feb 27 till March 29th. We stayed at the Gran Chancellor on Feb 27, 2020. The room was very clean, the personnel where so very courteous. It was not an efficiency so we visited some of the many restaurants in the neighborhood. There was also a convenient Japanese restaurant attached to the reception area and it was convenient to take food to the room or eat there. The hotel is located in the center of town within walking distance of the harbor. Traffic in town was bad and they had a convenient underground parking area. Very pleased with this hotel and would recommend it to others.

We bought a grab one voucher for this hotel. So the room was well priced but an additional charge of $30 for car park was not anticipated.
Room was clean, wifi good but we did not have a view at all.
Did not use the breakfast facilities as we went out for breakfast. Hotel is well located for activities in town, everything is in short walking distance.

the location of this place is great
but the hotel is looking tired, lots of small things that make you think this place is not looked after well. The toilet/bathroom door had had water damage and was not repaired, cracked tiles, broken jib. All in all they need to do the maintance in this place. We paid $120 which was ok if i had paid full price i would not have been happy. If they gave this place some love it could be a really nice place. But sadly they have not. So average at best

A good location within walking distance downhill to the port and a short uphill stroll to the Casino. The room was a good size with a med size bathroom with shower over bath, a kitchenette area with dining, mini lounge and separate bedroom plus a small balcony. The bed was low and not very comfortable. The shower was hard to get right and the bath was very narrow otherwise it was sufficient for our needs. The place did need basic cosmetic maintainence though. The hotel itself did have a dining room where you could get breakfast...we went out up the street. There was also an indoor pool and probably other amentities which we didn't discover. The staff were helpful.

We stayed on the 3rd floor, the room was clean, tidy, and the mattress was ideal for a good nights' sleep. The small indoor pool was heated and well maintained.
