At InterContinental Auckland, an IHG Hotel, many guests are impressed by the exceptional service, although some have faced challenges with valet parking and concierge responsiveness. The amenities, including generous toiletries and comfortable bedding, are often highlighted, despite the hotel still ramping up some services. Cleanliness is a standout feature, with travelers consistently commending the spotless conditions. While the rooms boast comfortable beds and stylish design, a few guests mention issues with storage and electronics. The hotel's prime location is celebrated for its convenience, though traffic can be a concern for some.

Spent 8 nights at IHG IC Auckland
It’s very new which was awesome for those who like tech and sleek features

Check in
Super friendly staff. Easy process

Rooms
Not massive but great floor/ceiling windows open up the space. One touch lighting scenes and everything controlled from your bedside, including shades and DND.

Minor kinks -
Rooms are not noise proof at all - maybe because it’s a multi use building with offices above. You will hear all the demonstrations in the square and on Fri/Sat nights will hear partying until 5am. Bring earplugs if noise is an issue for you.
Shades and lights automatically opened and went on certain days/times. We could not figure out why.

Lounge
Awesome and worth the extra cost.

Gym
Strangely small and strange that for a hotel with so many windows, no windows in the gym. Adequate tho and almost always empty.

Spa
They don’t have one

Restaurant
Adequate and convenient.

Service
Awesome

Parking
Valet is around $70NZD/day and they park way off site. Can take 15-20 min to get your car at times. Be prepared.

Overall
Awesome hotel. Would stay here again every time.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed review of your stay with us at the InterContinental Auckland. I’m delighted to hear that you enjoyed our new facilities, tech features, and our welcoming team. It’s great to know that you found our lounge "awesome" and appreciated the convenience of our rooms' technology. I apologise for the noise disturbances you experienced during your stay. Our rooms are double glazed and insulated from the external environment but being in a vibrant, multi-use building in the heart of Auckland does come with challenges if there is a big event outside like the recent protest in Queen St. We’ll also take your feedback on the gym and valet service into consideration as we work towards improving every aspect of our offerings. Your insights are invaluable, and we look forward to welcoming you back for another memorable stay in the future. Warm regards, Ryan General Manager

OK, it's a great hotel, excellent rooms, supplies, service, nothing wrong there. I only have two complaints, and it starts with their breakfast lounge Advieh. Excellent food, indeed beautiful, but it does not require loud music. People are there for breakfast, not for loud music, which is obviously only for the staff, not for customers. Make it more welcoming please. And the other problem is the access if you're driving. There is valet parking, but the area is very inconspicuous and it will be invariably occupied by taxis, often in two or three rows. The unadvised driver will not be able to stop, or drive in, unless you want to stop all traffic behind you as you wait for the taxis to move out. So do not try to turn left and drive around again, as traffic directions will take you all over the North Island before you make it back to the hotel. Just carry on on the same street for another block and you will drive around this massive car park, overnight cheaper than the hotel valet ($40, as opposed to $80 at the hotel) and you can comfortably walk to the hotel directly through a covered pedestrian walkway above the street. But if you do want to use the valet service at the hotel front, do stop by the taxis, honk like crazy and they will slowly move away to allow your car through - remember, that is your spot, not theirs. But I honestly advise anyone to use Uber to get to this hotel, and not drive in.

Dear Higuma, Thank you for sharing your experience at InterContinental Auckland. I'm thrilled to hear you enjoyed our rooms, service, and the offerings at Advieh. Your feedback regarding the breakfast lounge ambiance is valuable, and we'll work to ensure a more welcoming atmosphere. We also appreciate your insights on the valet area; we’re actively addressing these issues to improve access for our guests. Auckland Council has recently updated signage and installed CCTV cameras that fine taxi drivers who overstay the 5 minutes. Thank you again for your thoughtful review, and we hope to welcome you back soon. Warm regards, Ryan General Manager

Brand new hotel, great comfortable room. Some of the furniture in the room needs to be moved for safety and convenience. I was still able to enjoy my stay.

Front desk service was excellent.

Communication with In Room Dining not optimal, twice my order was wrong. When finally correct, the food was great.

Breakfast is good and with good choices.

The restaurant in the hotel has big portions, not suitable for single diner. Minimum steak is 1400 gram, that is a lot meat for a single person.

Once the hotel gets on its feet, it will be fantastic - I will be back.

Dear Michael, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I’m delighted to hear our front desk team made a positive impression and that you enjoyed breakfast and in-room dining when it arrived as ordered. I apologise for the mix-ups with your order and will work closely with our team to ensure smoother communication moving forward. Your feedback on the restaurant's portion sizes is valuable but bone in ribeye you have described is a two or more person dish, our menu is designed to share. For solo diners, i recommend the Hurunui Angus Beef with harissa XO, smoked buttermilk and lemon, delicious. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Warm regards, Ryan

This is a new hotel in the IHG chain. The franchise owners have done a good job at ensuring all IHG members with high status receive extra care. The service levels are very good here. The food in the hotel restaurant is excellent. The rooms are beautifully appointed. The Club Lounge service and food options are also excellent. One small issue with the Club Lounge is that the views of the harbour are very narrow and the rest of the lounge has a rather dark, cavernous feeling. In that respect this hotel is inferior to the magnificent, natural light and harbour vistas available in the Wellington NZ Intercontinental Club Lounge. Parking is also difficult. However, in ALL other respects (service, room quality, food in the restaurants) this hotel dominates the Wellington hotel. Finally, a word must be said about the parking situation. The local City Council is responsible for making parking (including arriving with a vehicle) here almost impossible. It is a scandalous situation that is not the fault of the hotel owners. The matter should be made public, if there is no resolution soon. The hotel concierge do a great job trying to make it as convenient as possible for guests with vehicles. But they can only do so much.

Hello, Thank you for the very kind feedback. I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay and have recommended the experience. A couple of points to note, we are in fact a managed by IHG hotel rather than a franchise. Try the Club on a sunny day, it faces directly north and gets a lot of sunshine and light. Thank you for recognising the challenge of the pick up and drop off area. We have been working with council on the increasing the size of the space and hope that it is approved soon. The team and I look forward to welcoming you back. Best wishes, Ryan General Manager

Hotel is nice but rate did not reflect that it is actually in a soft opening stage. Not all floors open and building work noise is intrusive , this is disclosed in the welcome email, in the room on a note, but different bits of paper stated different work hours. It started at 9am on the dot. Gym is down the street, no club lounge yet and staff friendly but still learning.
Design flaws to be overcome are building lacks basic signage, no where for taxis to pull in, tiny check in area holds 2 guests only, no priority check in space or signs.TV reception dropped out frequently.
Did not like all the tricky electronic buttons in the room that were hard to understand, no labels. I could not find any way to turn off the a/c completely. ( and nor could housekeeping),
I booked a junior suite which was a very nice, corner room on level 8, which I understand is as high as it goes at the moment .Toiletries and towels generous and had a nice luxury feel. Big shower, bath and separate toilet.
Great bed.Brilliant down town location with many great restaurants on your door step and easy access to buses, ferries and trains.
Loved the breakfast buffet , continental offering excellent, fresh and thoughtfully curated. Full breakfast allows selection of a cooked to order item, from a very good list of options.
Dropped the ball at checkout with an incorrect invoice that failed to apply the Ambassador buyout credit (for not being able to honor upgrading the room) and the mandatory platinum F and B credit. This meant overcharging me $100NZD.It was fixed on the spot and is why I never do express checkout as mistakes are common and tedious to address once you have left the building.

Nice location to walk around for shops and restaurants. Great view of the water, very pleasant on a sunny day. Bed is very comfortable. The light and temp controls were kind of high tech, takes a minute to figure out. As well as opening and closing the blackout. The blackout opens when you unlock the door and enter the room, it seems. The switch next to the door is a fire alarm so be careful with that! The body products are a little aromatic for me. Dinner and breakfast in the restaurant were very good. Can hear noise from the hallway in the bedroom and street noise was as expected for a city hotel. The cars aren't too noisy but there was music coming from somewhere. Allow 15-20min to get your car, especially if you have a ferry to catch.

We stay in Auckland often to visit our family who live there, and have stayed at a lot of the other 5* inner city hotels…. As an IHG One Rewards member we were very interested to stay at this new Intercontinental hotel to see if it not only lived up to the hype but also the standards of the other Intercontinental hotels we have always enjoyed around the world.

And what can I say? WOW, It far exceeded our expectations. For a brand new hotel who had literally just opened its front doors, we were blown away.

From the arrival welcome from the friendly concierge team (and the mesmerizing glass balls hanging from the ceiling) through to the check in and then every member of staff we came in contact with, they were just outstanding.

We booked and stayed in a room over looking the harbour. And that view would be a reason enough to stay again. But in terms of location (right in commercial bay, plus right opposite the ferries and just up from the train station), you’d just couldn’t beat it.

Just one point to note, they don’t have a gym or club lounge yet, however this was explained in an email we got before we arrived and also at checkin and didn’t bother us at all.

Cant wait to come back!!!

My 9 night stay at this hotel definitely deserves 5 stars for the exceptional service from their staff especially Geon and Justin (Front Desk) and April, Charlotte, and Hana Choy (Restaurant Morning Breakfast). Many thanks to the staff and kitchen who accommodated my special meal requests. The IHG has the most perfect location; especially convenient was the mini mall and food court in the same building for rainy and blustery days. Their rooms are spacious with peaceful decor, total blackout shades (absolutely the best compared to other 5 star hotels) and awesome harbor views. And my first hotel with a Water Filtering Station! I would definitely return to this hotel for any future stays.

Great stay. I loved the how comfortable the beds were and the views of the harbour must be the best in Auckland.
The design of the rooms is very cool and you can feel the mana of NZ coming through the design.
Fabulous location, attached to Commercial Bay and opposite the ferry was ideal for us for some shopping and to cruise over to Devonport for lunch.
We had breakfast and dinner at chef Gareth Stewart’s new restaurant in the hotel. My favourite new spot in Auckland. The lamb neck was my delicious and the wife loved the flounder. Great wine list and cocktails too.

Unfortunately, our stay did not meet expectations, and we are disappointed in this hotel.
The hotel has been open for 1 year and is in a perfect location, has beautiful rooms with a beautiful view. We had requested an early check-in by booking and a few days before arrival, the room was not available until 15:04.
None of the staff walked to the room, so there was no explanation about the room with extensive technical settings. (including lighting)
We ask an extra dust-free room by booking (dust allergy) But the room and bathroom were not clean. Dust in the bathroom and hair in the shower. Corners in the toilet and still dirty.
Despite a 5-star hotel, no turndown on the first night. When asked, they would ensure that it would not happen again. Unfortunately, no turndown on the 2nd night, the third night specifically at the time requested.
The breakfast and the room were not taken care of, messy, unkempt, buffet not refilled. Tables were not cleared and cleaned. Food remains were under the tables. During breakfast, a homeless man was walking around the room and no one from the staff took action. The guests asked the man to leave.
This hotel lacks staff with expertise and management support.
After the first night we were asked by email about our experience with the hotel. We reported the above and were repeatedly apologized for but no further action was taken.
