Hotel is nice but rate did not reflect that it is actually in a soft opening stage. Not all floors open and building work noise is intrusive , this is disclosed in the welcome email, in the room on a note, but different bits of paper stated different work hours. It started at 9am on the dot. Gym is down the street, no club lounge yet and staff friendly but still learning.
Design flaws to be overcome are building lacks basic signage, no where for taxis to pull in, tiny check in area holds 2 guests only, no priority check in space or signs.TV reception dropped out frequently.
Did not like all the tricky electronic buttons in the room that were hard to understand, no labels. I could not find any way to turn off the a/c completely. ( and nor could housekeeping),
I booked a junior suite which was a very nice, corner room on level 8, which I understand is as high as it goes at the moment .Toiletries and towels generous and had a nice luxury feel. Big shower, bath and separate toilet.
Great bed.Brilliant down town location with many great restaurants on your door step and easy access to buses, ferries and trains.
Loved the breakfast buffet , continental offering excellent, fresh and thoughtfully curated. Full breakfast allows selection of a cooked to order item, from a very good list of options.
Dropped the ball at checkout with an incorrect invoice that failed to apply the Ambassador buyout credit (for not being able to honor upgrading the room) and the mandatory platinum F and B credit. This meant overcharging me $100NZD.It was fixed on the spot and is why I never do express checkout as mistakes are common and tedious to address once you have left the building.

We stay in Auckland often to visit our family who live there, and have stayed at a lot of the other 5* inner city hotels…. As an IHG One Rewards member we were very interested to stay at this new Intercontinental hotel to see if it not only lived up to the hype but also the standards of the other Intercontinental hotels we have always enjoyed around the world.

And what can I say? WOW, It far exceeded our expectations. For a brand new hotel who had literally just opened its front doors, we were blown away.

From the arrival welcome from the friendly concierge team (and the mesmerizing glass balls hanging from the ceiling) through to the check in and then every member of staff we came in contact with, they were just outstanding.

We booked and stayed in a room over looking the harbour. And that view would be a reason enough to stay again. But in terms of location (right in commercial bay, plus right opposite the ferries and just up from the train station), you’d just couldn’t beat it.

Just one point to note, they don’t have a gym or club lounge yet, however this was explained in an email we got before we arrived and also at checkin and didn’t bother us at all.

Cant wait to come back!!!

Dear Bernie, Thank you for the 5 star review. Sounds like you had a great stay with the lobby artwork and the friendly service being a highlight. Make sure you check out our amazing new Restaurant Advieh during your next visit. The Middle Eastern flavours with the best of New Zealand produce is a must visit on the Auckland dining scene. See you next time you are in Auckland. Best wishes, Ryan

Great stay. I loved the how comfortable the beds were and the views of the harbour must be the best in Auckland.
The design of the rooms is very cool and you can feel the mana of NZ coming through the design.
Fabulous location, attached to Commercial Bay and opposite the ferry was ideal for us for some shopping and to cruise over to Devonport for lunch.
We had breakfast and dinner at chef Gareth Stewart’s new restaurant in the hotel. My favourite new spot in Auckland. The lamb neck was my delicious and the wife loved the flounder. Great wine list and cocktails too.

Recently stayed at the new Intercontinental Auckland which was fantastic. Platinum member; booked a reward stay for a classic room and was upgraded to a harbor view. The location is fantastic right on the waterfront though with traffic and construction transportation in and out of the area can take a little more time. Room was spacious and very modern. There was construction still ongoing but we never heard anything, gym is not open yet but they will give you a pass for the Les Mills gym a couple blocks up the street. We didn’t have breakfast but did have dinner in their restaurant Advieh which was really good.

Dear Matt, Thank you for taking the time to review InterContinental Auckland. I am delighted that you loved your stay. As you say, the views and location of the harbour are fantastic. Great to hear that your dinner in Advieh was excellent. We are really proud of the food that Chef Gareth Stewart and the Advieh team are creating. We also have a fabulous cocktail and wine list to go with it. Our head barman is a magician. The cocktails are inspired by the food of Advieh, very tempting. See you next time. Best wishes, Ryan General Manager

This hotel is outstanding. It is so conveniently situated on the Auckland waterfront, has generous well appointed and equipped rooms with amazing views, very comfy beds and friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant is also fantastic and would recommend to travellers and locals alike.

Dear Mark, Thank you for taking the time to review our restaurant. We appreciate your understanding that we are a new venue and working hard to imbed our service culture. We have had some wonderful feedback from our trials in the lead up to opening and since opening. Feedback has been been anything but basic and guests are loving the combination of Middle East & Mediterranean flavours with the best produce from New Zealand. I do hope that we can welcome you back soon. Best wishes, Ryan

Stayed in a harbour view room for 1
Night a few weeks after opening. A few little issues that no doubt will be dealt with as per usual with openings. Rooms are beautiful and moody with dark tones. Bathrooms seperate to the living area (yay!). Bar and restaurant very good. Excellent service from everyone.

I guess I’m the first review here.
I am diamond elite ambassador member of IHG. And the general manager Ryan South and his team wrote a passive aggressive email saying my booking is not genuine? They are assuming I’m from overseas and asking for my visa details ? What a way of discrimination? welcome to intercontinental Auckland !

Dear James, Thank you for taking the time to review InterContinental Auckland. As discussed previously via email correspondence. We are facing some unique challenges in quantifying many bookings for our suites that appear to have come from guests who do not intend to stay and will cancel prior to arrival. This is an issue for many new hotels as there is an assumption that the hotel will be delayed, and compensation will be forth coming. We are on track to open on 30 January, there will be no delays. We have received numerous bookings for our suites that we believe may be fraudulent due to the pattern and nature of the bookings. Your multiple reservations (10 reservations) were flagged as unusual due to the volume of the bookings for a very specific room type. We would be delighted to confirm all your reservations and look forward to welcoming you a highly valued Diamond Elite Ambassador but would like to confirm that all your bookings are required. As we have stated, we only have one presidential suite, so it’s important that we validate these bookings. One way for us to confirm the legitimate bookings is to confirm that an overseas guest has a valid visa for arrival into New Zealand and/or flight confirmation. We do agree that this is an unusual request and not our normal practice but in the absence of pre-payment for these reservations it does seem reasonable. We look forward to welcoming you to Auckland. Best wishes, Ryan

We stayed here one night on route elsewhere.
It was pleasant and well appointed. Nothing special. Great location in town. Nice bed and amenities. We didn’t love the restaurant. Sure it was nice but, in our opinion, a limited menu. Staff were great. A good four star hotel. But lacking the real class of a top line hotel.

Hello Danny, Thank you for your review. We appreciate you taking the time to offer your opinion. It sounds like your stay was good but not great, I would hate to see your review of an actual 4 star hotel, yikes. We appreciate all feedback and will certainly consider expanding the Advieh restaurant menu as we evolve but for now our strategy is to be passionate about what we create and do it to an exceptional level. One of the great things about InterContinental Auckland and our location in Commercial Bay is the access to numerous best in class restaurants. Ahi, Origine, Poni, Rodd & Gun etc. are all excellent, each with their own identity. Lots of variety. Best wishes, Ryan General Manager

First the pros:
-Wonderful location down on waterfront. If you can jag a front room, have harbour views.
-Room tastefully decorated albeit a bit small
-Restaurant is nice

Now the cons:
-Lots of construction sounds still within the hotel
-Charged for drinks not consumed
which had to correct
-Requested invoice to be emailed. After following up twice via email, had to call
-Could not check-in until 10am but missed the 9am cut off for laundry - had to pay twice the costs for same day ironing.
-Staff can be a bit rude, especially on first day of opening.
-Gym bother open and replacement gym 8 min walk away
