We started off our trip to NZ with a few days at Hotel DeBrett. The decor is super sweet and the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. We enjoyed the location and proximity to downtown and various museums and restaurants. Breakfast was tasty. We were also offered a welcome glass of wine, which we enjoyed in the bar. This is not a large group hotel and it’s not corporate. We enjoyed it.

Hotel DeBrett is in a great location in central Auckland. We were able to get around easily and it was close to the ferry harbor. Its style is a little quirky (I would describe it as 1960's Mod), but fun. Breakfast was excellent and the staff was very professional and courteous. Some parts of the hotel could use a little refreshing, but overall it was a good experience

We stayed at Hotel DeBrett when we first arrived in New Zealand, at the start of our holiday. We were very pleased with our choice. The hotel has a fabulously 'fun' feel about it - looking like Sir Paul Smith had designed it. (He had not, but it has the same 'fun' feel' to all aspects of design in rooms and common areas.) Room 2.5 had a corner aspect, and was lovely and quiet, despite being so centrally placed. The bed was a little softer than we are used to at home, but obviously this is to be expected, and it certainly did not stop us from getting a good night's sleep. The shower was one of the very best in any hotel we have used. Breakfast was excellent, as was the steak at dinner one evening. Staff were cheerful, and helpful, and it really was the perfect place to start our holiday.

We had a super stay at Hotel Debrett on our first night in New Zealand. We loved this art deco hotel which had been sympathetically refurbished so it blends the art deco features and furnishings with all the facilities that you could expect in a modern hotel. Our suite was lovely - especially the cabinet with our teas and coffees in! (See photo) And we enjoyed the bar area too with our ‘complimentary drink’ voucher. The food looked delicious in the restaurant too! We had a problem with our mobile phone which wouldn’t work in NZ and a very kind man on reception helped us to sort it out by letting us phone the UK from the front desk at no extra charge. Thank you! That really helped us out! A lovely hotel in a super spot - a short walk from the main shopping road and the restaurants around the harbour.

One of our art deco favourites in Auckland! Central to everything, and eclectically styled to honour a deco history. Our loft suite featured a fabulous spiral staircase, expansive bathroom, and separate lounge area. Welcoming & professional staff from reception, to the charming deco bar, made for the perfect stay : )

Quirky small hotel with pleasant and helpful reception staff. Rooms were clean with good sized towels in bathroom but clear doors to bathroom from bedroom and from bath area to toilet. No evening turn down service and no complimentary water in room - charged for small bottle, so even though coffee, milk and kettle supplied, you either used bathroom tap water or paid. Breakfast menu was served to you, limited and very slow though staff pleasant. Excellent position to walk to harbour, expensive shops, hop on hop off bus and station (two stops to Westfield shopping, one stop to Parnell Village).

Just ended a 3 night stay at this lovely boutique hotel. All the staff are so friendly and you immediately felt at home. The location is perfect for a stay in Auckland, only a 5-10 minute walk to shops, the harbour for all the restaurants and bars and the ferry to Waiheke which is worth a visit. The area felt very safe. The room was nicely done and did not feel like a hotel room, again making you feel more at home. It was a decent size with air conditioning and included dressing gown and slippers, a well stocked mini bar, small fridge, tea and coffee (they will bring you some milk for your tea if you ask them). The bathroom shower was large with very good water pressure with normal shower and rain shower and included shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body moisturiser. The bedding was decent quality cotton, choice of pillows and the bed was amazingly comfortable for a fantastic nights sleep. The only one thing we found a little annoying was that from our room (212) we could hear the background music from the restaurant, our room overlooked the restaurant but the noise was coming from the open door on the landing rather than through the patio door, the music started at 7.30 and turned off at around10. If this would annoy you make sure you ask for a different room. We enjoyed 3 great breakfasts here and between us, sampled everything on the menu, all cooked to order by the chef in the open kitchen and all extremely tasty. We also enjoyed one evening meal here, opting for the 3 course set menu which was really, really good, in particular the panacotta and chocolate sponge desserts. Although we complained about the music in our room, it was great to have the music playing in the restaurant whilst dining in there. There is a Bar in the hotel and also one on the outside. Would highly recommend staying here and would definitely return if we ever found ourselves in Auckland again.

We had a fairly disappointing stay at the Hotel DeBrett. When we arrived and checked in, the one lift was broken. The staff and manager was apologetic and helped us with luggage. The room (Courtyard Suite) was cute, but very dark. The hotel does have a nice boutique vibe. The rest of my family arrived the next day. As I went down to reception to greet them, the manager was telling my brother that the lift had unfortunately just broken that day and it was about to be repaired (I wonder how long it had been broken). We were given coupons for a free drink at the bar (this comes with the room), and when we went to get a drink, it took ages to find someone to wait on us. That should have been an indication of things to come. The staff at the restaurant at breakfast is perhaps the most incompetent I have ever encountered. When we all went to breakfast (that we pre-paid for) on they day we were leaving, we placed our orders, and all but one of the orders arrived. We checked with no less than 4 different staff members (our original waitress multiple times) to find where the last plate of food was, and each person left the table to check on it, never to be seen again. We twice went up to kitchen to inquire about the order, as we watched about 20 plates of other people’s breakfast be sent out to different tables. 30 minutes later - still no plate food. When the hotel manager appeared in the dining room, we asked him. He was very apologetic and finally helped - all of our other inquires had done nothing, and the breakfast still hadn’t been prepared. It finally appeared on the table 45 minutes after the rest of us received our breakfast. By the way, the food tasted mediocre at best. It soured our experience at the hotel.
