Quirky small hotel with pleasant and helpful reception staff. Rooms were clean with good sized towels in bathroom but clear doors to bathroom from bedroom and from bath area to toilet. No evening turn down service and no complimentary water in room - charged for small bottle, so even though coffee, milk and kettle supplied, you either used bathroom tap water or paid. Breakfast menu was served to you, limited and very slow though staff pleasant. Excellent position to walk to harbour, expensive shops, hop on hop off bus and station (two stops to Westfield shopping, one stop to Parnell Village).

Just ended a 3 night stay at this lovely boutique hotel. All the staff are so friendly and you immediately felt at home. The location is perfect for a stay in Auckland, only a 5-10 minute walk to shops, the harbour for all the restaurants and bars and the ferry to Waiheke which is worth a visit. The area felt very safe. The room was nicely done and did not feel like a hotel room, again making you feel more at home. It was a decent size with air conditioning and included dressing gown and slippers, a well stocked mini bar, small fridge, tea and coffee (they will bring you some milk for your tea if you ask them). The bathroom shower was large with very good water pressure with normal shower and rain shower and included shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body moisturiser. The bedding was decent quality cotton, choice of pillows and the bed was amazingly comfortable for a fantastic nights sleep. The only one thing we found a little annoying was that from our room (212) we could hear the background music from the restaurant, our room overlooked the restaurant but the noise was coming from the open door on the landing rather than through the patio door, the music started at 7.30 and turned off at around10. If this would annoy you make sure you ask for a different room. We enjoyed 3 great breakfasts here and between us, sampled everything on the menu, all cooked to order by the chef in the open kitchen and all extremely tasty. We also enjoyed one evening meal here, opting for the 3 course set menu which was really, really good, in particular the panacotta and chocolate sponge desserts. Although we complained about the music in our room, it was great to have the music playing in the restaurant whilst dining in there. There is a Bar in the hotel and also one on the outside. Would highly recommend staying here and would definitely return if we ever found ourselves in Auckland again.

We had a fairly disappointing stay at the Hotel DeBrett. When we arrived and checked in, the one lift was broken. The staff and manager was apologetic and helped us with luggage. The room (Courtyard Suite) was cute, but very dark. The hotel does have a nice boutique vibe. The rest of my family arrived the next day. As I went down to reception to greet them, the manager was telling my brother that the lift had unfortunately just broken that day and it was about to be repaired (I wonder how long it had been broken). We were given coupons for a free drink at the bar (this comes with the room), and when we went to get a drink, it took ages to find someone to wait on us. That should have been an indication of things to come. The staff at the restaurant at breakfast is perhaps the most incompetent I have ever encountered. When we all went to breakfast (that we pre-paid for) on they day we were leaving, we placed our orders, and all but one of the orders arrived. We checked with no less than 4 different staff members (our original waitress multiple times) to find where the last plate of food was, and each person left the table to check on it, never to be seen again. We twice went up to kitchen to inquire about the order, as we watched about 20 plates of other people’s breakfast be sent out to different tables. 30 minutes later - still no plate food. When the hotel manager appeared in the dining room, we asked him. He was very apologetic and finally helped - all of our other inquires had done nothing, and the breakfast still hadn’t been prepared. It finally appeared on the table 45 minutes after the rest of us received our breakfast. By the way, the food tasted mediocre at best. It soured our experience at the hotel.

Hotel Debretts deserves many more than five stars! This hotel is the absolute best place to stay and you can see why it has such a great reputation. The front desk staff especially Ruchi and Nigati Bhuta truly take the time to make you feel welcome. This is our last stop to an amazing country and am so delighted with my last choice, Hotel DeBrett. The hotel is located in the center of town. The service, friendliness and accommodations are top notch. This is a VERY special place. Thank you everyone here for making our Auckland experience so amazing.

Good location and comfortable room get the rating of 3 but beyond that, disappointing. Room had no external view, frayed carpet on the stairs, free tea and coffee in room but $5 for a small biscuit. Breakfast was fine but we were allowed a beverage and one item from the menu. Best bit was the takeaway breakfast for an early departure. Our cheese and ham croissants and pastries had obviously been frozen about 2 weeks before and defrosted for our enjoyment! This is a self-styled luxury hotel...

My husband and I recently stayed at the Hotel DeBrett for 10 nights. Ruchi and Pranav were the two that checked us in. We were very happy to be able to have early check-in upon arrival at 2:15pm. We were also informed that breakfast would be included courtesy of Mr and Mrs Smith. We were also presented with 2 vouchers for a welcome drink. Our room was a courtyard room on the 1st floor. We were happy with the size of the room and all the facilities. The safe and refrigerator were beneficial to have in the room. We also had an additional sitting room. The bathroom consisted of a walk-in shower, with one shower head from above and another shower head with the handle on the side. Yes, I love my showers and this was just what I needed. There was also an oversized bath. The room had ample charging points, an abundance of charging sockets and 4 USB charging ports. We chose this hotel because it was in close proximity to Britomart and the downtown area of Auckland, called Auckland CBD. We were also a short distance from Queen Street and Albert Park. We were greeted with a bottle of lovely Prosecco, it was a welcome bottle courtesy of Adam and the team from Hotel DeBrett. This was a nice touch. We also loved trying out all the different breakfast options available. My particular favourite was the Wagyu mince bolognese breakfast with sourdough bread, mixed green leaves salad, poached egg topped with a generous helping of parmesan cheese. My husband liked the cooked breakfast. The hotel also boasts the House Bar on the 1st floor, near the hotel kitchen. There is also the Corner Bar on Shortland Street - it is part of though not physically connected to the hotel. They do the best cocktails. I had 2 vodka martini on one visit, and my husband had the Aperol Spritz. We also had a Manhattan, Negroni and Cosmopolitan. Yes, they are highly recommended and went down as a treat. We met Adam, the Boss, and he was very welcoming and asked how we were enjoying our stay and what we did. He also provided some ideas on what we could do while in Auckland. We appreciated the friendly chat and hospitality. All of the staff at Hotel DeBrett were extremely helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a boutique downtown hotel to unwind and explore Auckland. Each room is uniquely decorated and the hotel is tastefully designed throughout. You won’t find a more comfortable stay in Auckland - well, we think so anyway!
