Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Good location and comfortable room get the rating of 3 but beyond that, disappointing. Room had no external view, frayed carpet on the stairs, free tea and coffee in room but $5 for a small biscuit. Breakfast was fine but we were allowed a beverage and one item from the menu. Best bit was the takeaway breakfast for an early departure. Our cheese and ham croissants and pastries had obviously been frozen about 2 weeks before and defrosted for our enjoyment! This is a self-styled luxury hotel...

This is a wonderful boutique hotel in the Auckland CBD. The rooms are beautiful and an outstanding bathroom. The bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept on. We are in the restaurant which was excellent. The location is very convenient. We checked in at midnight and the process was very smooth. I can highly recommend this hotel.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Hotel DeBrett for 10 nights. Ruchi and Pranav were the two that checked us in. We were very happy to be able to have early check-in upon arrival at 2:15pm. We were also informed that breakfast would be included courtesy of Mr and Mrs Smith. We were also presented with 2 vouchers for a welcome drink. Our room was a courtyard room on the 1st floor. We were happy with the size of the room and all the facilities. The safe and refrigerator were beneficial to have in the room. We also had an additional sitting room. The bathroom consisted of a walk-in shower, with one shower head from above and another shower head with the handle on the side. Yes, I love my showers and this was just what I needed. There was also an oversized bath. The room had ample charging points, an abundance of charging sockets and 4 USB charging ports. We chose this hotel because it was in close proximity to Britomart and the downtown area of Auckland, called Auckland CBD. We were also a short distance from Queen Street and Albert Park. We were greeted with a bottle of lovely Prosecco, it was a welcome bottle courtesy of Adam and the team from Hotel DeBrett. This was a nice touch. We also loved trying out all the different breakfast options available. My particular favourite was the Wagyu mince bolognese breakfast with sourdough bread, mixed green leaves salad, poached egg topped with a generous helping of parmesan cheese. My husband liked the cooked breakfast. The hotel also boasts the House Bar on the 1st floor, near the hotel kitchen. There is also the Corner Bar on Shortland Street - it is part of though not physically connected to the hotel. They do the best cocktails. I had 2 vodka martini on one visit, and my husband had the Aperol Spritz. We also had a Manhattan, Negroni and Cosmopolitan. Yes, they are highly recommended and went down as a treat. We met Adam, the Boss, and he was very welcoming and asked how we were enjoying our stay and what we did. He also provided some ideas on what we could do while in Auckland. We appreciated the friendly chat and hospitality. All of the staff at Hotel DeBrett were extremely helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a boutique downtown hotel to unwind and explore Auckland. Each room is uniquely decorated and the hotel is tastefully designed throughout. You won’t find a more comfortable stay in Auckland - well, we think so anyway!

This was our sixth visit to DeBrett Hotel, unfortunately our room being adjacent to the bar area and right behind the lift shaft made it a very disappointing stay due to a lack of sleep. The room itself was as expected, small but complete with the usual art-deco finishes which make it a very cool room. The bed is really comfy, shame the noise from the lifts running up & down ruined what should have been a relaxing night away for my wife & I. Presumably as we booked through a third party website (Booking.Com) we received the worse room in the hotel. We were going to raise the issue at check-out, but other being asked if we used the mini-bar there was no dialogue or enquiry if we had enjoyed our stay.

We spent the first night of our New Zealand holiday at Hotel DeBrett. The building and decor are beautiful. The staff were friendly and we enjoyed our evening meal in their restaurant. Delicious. We were thrilled to be upgraded to a loft suite which was spacious, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Would highly recommend.

Large room with a living room and big bathroom. The hotel’s restaurant, de Brett’s kitchen, was cozy and the food was wonderful. The decor is retro — sort of like 1970’s. Polite and helpful staff.

Great location that was an easy walk to attractions and restaurants. Small boutique hotel with high quality rooms. Great linens and bed. Quiet. Nice clean and bright bathroom. Window looked on on interior of hotel, no method to manually secure room door from inside. Had breakfast in hotel on last day of stay. A disaster, meltdown by staff. Took an hour to get breakfast and it was cold. No comment or apology by young untrained and unsupervised staff. Manager showed up, carried some glasses around. No interaction with customers. When I noted our dissatisfaction when we checked out, we were ‘thanked for our feedback’. No apology or explanation. Soured what had been a great stay.
