Mövenpick Hotel Auckland draws praise for its central location, favored by guests for easy access to local attractions, and the comfortable beds are often highlighted as a plus. However, the hotel receives mixed reviews regarding value, with some travelers feeling nickeled and dimed due to extra charges. While the breakfast and views are celebrated, issues like inconsistent housekeeping and noise pollution detract from the experience. The service quality appears to vary, leaving some guests delighted and others underwhelmed.

First time staying at a Movenpick property and was very impressed.

We were travelling for my birthday, and staff were incredibly attentive. The Boda restaurant on the top floor is top notch, and seems to also be quite popular among locals.

Rooms are stylish and comfortable and super quiet.

Chocolate hour is a fun treat, which we used as our wet weather plan. It conveniently leads into happy hour!

Lastly, it's location right next to Britomart station, the Ferry Terminal and the main shopping street makes for a super convenient location.

Couldn't recommend this place more highly!

As many others have indicated; great location with the ferry terminal a block away, Skybus pick-up pretty much outside, adjacent to the Britomart area and Queen Street.

It was difficult time for staff with COVID-19 restrictions just about to bite, so we appreciated the reception staff being kind enough to upgrade our city view room to a Harbour view and grant a 1pm check-out time. The ‘Superior’ room was of average size, but comfortable enough and our only gripe was that the room lacked adequate storage/cupboard space. We had to park our car two blocks away at the Lumley Centre (some good cheap eats in Fort Street, eg King Made Noodles), but it seemed secure enough (it was a ‘Secure’ Parking though!) and cheaper than Britomart and Downtown parking stations.

We had breakfast ( a good selection, liked the juice machine and eggs made to order) a few times (pricey, but ok with Accor Plus membership) in Vue restaurant and had some drinks at the bar; a great view from both places and staff were very accommodating.

Overall, 4.5 but can’t enter that on TA.

Dear iancc, Thank you so much for taking the time in providing us with genuine comments regarding your recent time with us. I am delighted to hear that our team of Storytellers had taken great care of you during your stay with us and that you enjoyed our scrumptious breakfast accompanied by a great view of the Harbour. I'm surprised to hear that you didn't agree with our breakfast prices as we are the cheapest around town but as you said with your loyal Accor Plus membership, you were eligible for a discount. Overall, we are so happy that your experience with us was a positive one and we hope to welcome you back in the near future. Stay Safe. Kind Regards, Tasi Fameitau Guest Relations Manager

At the end of our New Zealand tour we spent two nights at the Grand Mercure - conveniently located with the Skybus (Auckland City Express) from Auckland Airport dropping you off next to the hotel entrance and the ferries being only 5 minutes away. The main shopping street is around the corner, all sorts of restaurants are at walking distance and so is the Skytower.

Our Superior Room with two comfortable beds and ocean view was on the 9th floor, too low for an unobstructed view but high enough to see parts of the harbour and the cruise ships that arrive in the early mornings while hotel guests are still asleep. The room was not very large but furnished in a pleasant, modern style and ok for the short stay. The bathroom (likewise new with white tiles and dark furniture) looked a bit cramped but had a spacious shower. Everything was clean.

On our first evening we had a drink at the bar on the 13th floor. While the view was great the drinks were just scant. As I'd rather have paid a higher price for a reasonably filled glass than being forced to order another one we did not go back the next evening.
The staff we met was friendly. And for long-term travellers like us the guest laundry (tokens and powder at the reception) was a much appreciated asset.

The room was very large, comfortable and 2 very comfortable double beds, very quiet and no noise from the corridor outside. The staff were very friendly and helpful in accommodating us into our room early as we had arrive on an early flight from the UK. We were able to use a shower room and able to leave our luggage while we waited for the room to be ready which was much appreciated.
The location is central down town close to the harbour, shops and restaurants and was good value.

The location is ideal being close to the city, harbour and SkyBus. The room was excellent especially the bed and the shower.
We arrived early on the Queen Elizabeth, as a Gold member one of the privileges is early check-in when available. At reception I was told that the room was empty but would take 2-3 hours to clean. When I asked why, I was told that rooms are cleaned according to a “list” and the order couldn’t be changed. It took some time to persuade the person at reception to prioritise the cleaning of our room.
At breakfast they offer a continental breakfast however there are no bread rolls. I have never seen a continental breakfast served with sliced bread. Service for cooked items was very slow.

Wellington, New Zealand
2.0 of 5 bubbles
Arriving in Auckland after a long distance flight from Europe we found our flight to Wellington cancelled because of high winds and we were unable to arrange another flight until the next day. As all airport hotels were booked out we rang the Grand Mecure. We were quoted a double room at the inflated price of $509, normal (non extortionate price around $250). Feeling sick with exhaustion, and being in our senior years, we decided to bite the bullet. At least we would have a nice hotel in which to wait for the winds to die down in Wellington. Big mistake! The first shock on arrival came when we were told that breakfast was not included in our room rate. The hotel was not only maximizing the room charge because of high demand, they were also minimizing the services.

The corridors were grey, dark, dingy and noisy. A painter was painting the skirting boards but, as there was no warning sign I narrowly avoided getting paint on my trousers. The room was pleasant enough, but small. The air conditioner was going when we arrived even though it was raining and windy outside. I turned it off before going out to get something to eat. When I returned I found the room had an unpleasant smell. It was not possible to open the windows, and it became clear that the air conditioner was kept on the mask this smell.

In short this was a very expensive and unsatisfactory night’s accommodation, with the hotel price gouging at our expense. There was nothing at all that warranted the $509 per night cost except pure extortion. The lack of breakfast was cheap and mean spirited, and covering the smell with the air conditioner was a deliberate strategy on the part of the hotel to deceive. I would never stay at this hotel again, and I certainly couldn’t recommend it to anybody else.

This proved to be a brilliant hotel for 2 nights in Auckland. The location of this hotel is great with the SkyBus from the airport stopping right outside. It is very centrally located and just one road back from the ferry terminal. The breakfast room has huge picture windows over the harbour - and the food was good, fresh and a great selection. We arrived after a very long flight from the UK and the room was light and bright with a great view. The room was quiet with a very clean shower room and the bed was very comfortable.

We have stayed at this hotel a number of times on our annual trip to Auckland. It can always be relied on to have friendly and helpful staff, and a good sized clean room and bathroom. Its central location to the Viaduct Harbour, the ferry terminal and the Inner Loop bus to Ponsonby is also a plus. This stay was also very good - the breakfast buffet had a good selection of food though the filtered water jug was often empty. The bar had a very good wine list. We had a fire alarm go off at 3am and I thought there could have been a bit more guidance from staff once we exited the building as no one seemed to know where to assemble though I do understand there would be limited staff working at that time. Overall, another positive experience and also great value for a 4 night stay.

Flight centre selected as close to cruise terminal as flight due to arrive after midnight from Brisbane.
Contacted hotel prior to travelling regarding transport, luggage storage and things to do.Got a prompt reply and the shuttle they recommended from airport was excellent as I’d booked it online from hotel link provided it was straight on after getting luggage and cheaper than other options and direct to entrance.
As our cruise wasn’t leaving till later afternoon able to leave luggage at hotel with no additional service, this gave us a chance to do some sightseeing.
On arrival still got a friendly greeting from staff even though it was after 1am.
Room and beds were great.
Had breakfast in hotel restaurant and staff where friendly and prices reasonable.
Hotel was within easy walking distance of cruise terminal and our fifteen yr old son was happy there was a McDonald’s just outside hotel.
Shops were nearby and plenty of other food choices for the adults.
Would definitely stay here again and if your flying in to board your cruise it saves having to worry about getting stuck in traffic.

2nd time i have stayed in this hotel. I was upgraded to a junior suite which was great, the extra room to relax was much appreciated. I love the soft carpet in the room. Staff are welcoming and they expected me and my room was ready on arrival. The staff are very helpful when asking for directions or general information. The hotel is located close to the main shopping street of Queen St and a few minutes walk to the harbour ferries. I recommend the harbour view rooms. The Vue restaurant has fantastic harbour views. The food is delicious and varied for all tastes. Breakfast time had a few issues, one morning all the hot food was cold as someone had forgotten to turn on the food warmers. All in all an enjoyable stay and I would highly recommend this hotel when staying in Auckland.
