Located in the real heartbeat of Auckland is the Neighborhood of Ponsonby, central is the Great Ponsonby Arthotel. All the comforts of home away from home, it is an amazing find in this bustling city. Local artists, chefs, and creative, talented people support this lovely area filled with beautifully maintained villas and quaint businesses. Arthotel is no exception with a welcoming ambiance and a very local feel. This was our 2nd stay at GPA, Rooms 1 & 2 at the front of the home. The rooms are a fair size with good storage (dressers, night stands, open hanging closet), comfy bed with plentiful pillows and quilts, a writing desk, small flat screen, ensuite with shower, and artfully etched glass doors leading to a small lanai with seating for two. There is full access to the large public rooms (2 dining areas, cozy lounge)and the large L-shaped yard. When we return, we'd like to try the cottages in the rear yard. Highly recommend breakfast at GPA. It includes 5 hot fresh breakfast choices along with fresh fruit, juice, yogurt, muesli, cheese, several choices of bread, including gluten free (often home baked). The staff are friendly and allow you to be as independent as you wish.
Within easy walking distance are a variety of local city vibe shops and restaurants. If you'd like to venture down to the central Auckland waterfront, it's an easy 15-20 minute walk downhill past Victoria park. It's a quick 10-15 minute Uber ride back (uphill), about 8NZD.
If cold, overcrowded, high-rise concrete city hotels are not your thing, you will truly appreciate the welcoming feel of this great resting spot.

We stayed in this cute bnb style hotel for one night. It’s close to Posonby road which contains lots of restaurants etc but is still in a relatively quiet location. The included hot breakfast had a reasonable selection and what we ordered was pretty good. Only plunger coffee available unfortunately though. The rooms are a little dated but the decor was aligned with the style of the hotel so it made sense

Along with Parnell, Ponsonby is our favourite place to stay in Auckland. We stayed at the Great Ponsonby Art Hotel again this year and have no regrets. We always enjoy returning here. Parking is no problem in the hotel grounds or on the street.
The small, beautifully furnished hotel offers the kind of hospitality we like most: the staff are attentive and very friendly. The service has been just perfect.
This time there were three of us travelling together and we booked the penthouse room and one of the three pavilions behind the house. The balcony and garden are perfect for enjoying an aperitif or a take-away menu. If you're lucky, the odd bird will pay you a visit - this time a kingfisher was a special guest.
The rooms are clean and pleasantly large. The pavilions are outfitted with new bath rooms.
The cooked breakfast is a dream, just like in the good old days when there were many more B&Bs in New Zealand than there are today.
Ponsonby Street has a great selection of restaurants and there is something to suit almost every palate. We were never disappointed. And last but not least Ponsonby is perfectly located for a stroll to the CBD and many sights as the Auckland Museum or the Auckland Art Gallery.
We shall return.

We had a great time at the Great Ponsonby Arthotel. Somewhere between a hostel and a bed and breakfast, this hotel is very charming, affordable, and includes an optional hearty breakfast add-on that was a great way to start the day. It's also a very easy walk to many cafes, restaurants, public transportation, delicious ice cream, etc. Would definitely stay again when visiting Auckland.

B&B hotel discovered as part of the confidential New Zealand circuit of the French circuit, friendly hotel well located, barely 2 km from the center (be careful of the steep streets of Auckland to return) and 4 km from Eden Park, the room was a little small to place suitcases but well equipped, very good breakfast Just a note, you have to arrive after 7 a.m. for arrival, but we arrived at 6:30 a.m. and we had to wait, coming from France after a 30-hour trip, it reminded me Seems that the reception in this specific case should be improved to access the rooms without waiting

Excellent stay in this quiet but convenient accommodation. Cafes and restaurants within a few minutes' walk, off road parking on site and located in a nice part of the city. Bed was very comfortable and the rooms and communal areas were nicely decorated and very clean. Would stay again. Recommended.

If you like clinical, ritzy, stereotypical hotel rooms, this probably isn't the place for you. There's a slight shabbiness to it but it's spotlessly clean, with an eclectic mix of art and furniture. The hospitality is second to none. Friendly and accommodating. It's the little things that make this place special - the lounge, free tea and coffee and a small bar where you are trusted to take a complimentary drink and pay for extras. The street is quiet - no traffic noise. The beds have lovely linen and are comfortable. Cooked breakfast choices on a blackboard and the wonderful 'chef' whips up your breakfast as she chats to you across the room. She was extremely helpful in helping out my daughter who needed to print a legal document and scan it. I would not only happily stay here again, I'd almost look for an excuse to return.

We try to visit the Great Ponsonby every year and we recommend the driving services of "Uncle", to and from the Auckland Airport. Also, don't miss the superb breakfasts and the engaging conversations with staff and other guests. The Great Ponsonby is conveniently located, with excellent restaurants just up the street. And, if you are not feeling too ambitious, why not relax for an hour or two in the hotel's garden? There are loads of books to read, hot and cold drinks, and even sun goo for those with sensitive skin. You are sure to enjoy your stay at the Great Ponsonby.

Our group had a really great experience at the Great Ponsonby Arthotel! The staff were very responsive by email prior to our trip. Checking in and out was very easy. We got the paid breakfast which was delicious. There are cozy shared areas with couches and tables with coffee, tea and wine/ beer available (they offered one free alcoholic beverage and subsequent drinks available for purchase). It was quite rainy while we were there and they had umbrellas available to borrow. And, it's very close to multiple bars, restaurants, and cafes in the Ponsonby area. Walkable to the CBD and was very easy to take the bus to other neighborhoods.
Highly recommend!

the location was and is the best of this place. the room and decoration was anything but average and no art was seen by us, the breakfast room was nineteen-fiftees in britain and the asian reception person was very hard to understand. the neighbouring room made noises when flushing the toilet so loud that it blocked out our tv-sound 'spectre' was on... we left without the breakfast even when we had booked and paid for it. but overall: the location is priceless especially when all you want is a sunday afternoon and evening plus a monday morning on ponsonby.
