President Hotel turned out to be a good choice for us. The location of the hotel was great, close to many attractions and public transportation. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. While the breakfast buffet was nothing special, it was adequate and filled our stomachs for the day. If you're looking for affordable accommodation in the city centre of Auckland, this is definitely an option to consider.

Everything was really great! STAFF: Checkin was friendly and easy. I was given all information neeeded (breakfast info, where to get a sim card nearby, how/where to catch the local bus etc.) They have a discount card for the explorer bus, just ask! LOCATION: Is perfect! Near everything! Grocery market next door. Easy walk to Albert Park, Sky Tower and Casino, a million restaurants, coffee shops, bars and pubs, and any form of Transportation needed (including the airport bus.) BREAKFAST: is very nice, included in room rate and it starts early! It is good, but is the exact same every day: Buffet style Scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, sausage, bacon, mushrooms, beans, toast, yoghurt, muesli/cereals, coffee/tea, and yummy NZ apple juice. ROOM: This review is for the room category "SUPERIOR KING WITH LOUNGE" It was nice and clean. Keep in mind this is an "older" hotel, so don't expect everything to be shiny and new. There are no USB charging ports, so if you are traveling internationally, you will need an adapter. Bedroom is separate, it has a King bed which was comfy, a closet, night stand and plenty of space. (NOTE: there is no A/C in the bedroom! It was very warm to sleep the first night. The next day I spoke with a staff member and they brought a floor fan for me which worked out perfectly and also helped with street noise.) Lounge area is comfortable with nice TV and good A/C (I didn't really use it much as a solo traveler - This room would be perfect for a couple with a child.) Mini kitchen has everything needed and was very nice to have. Bathroom was basic, but clean and included small toiletries. (NOTE: the photos for this room category show a bathtub, however my room had a shower only, which was fine by me. If you want a bathtub, I suppose you would need to specifically request that.) The only negative comment I have (which is not the property's fault) is that the entire surrounding area is under extensive road construction. It is noisy and unsightly. I didn't have a car, but if you do, I would imagine it to be frustrating trying to navigate the area.

This hotel is ok, quite central in Auckland, but certainly the room my companion and I shared was a bit tired. The beds were comfortable (one queen/maybe king, and two singles), but getting access to enough power points for the two of us involved moving one of the single beds out from the wall. Not convenient. There was some discussion between my travelling companion and the hotel maintenance guy about using normal Australian two-point plugs in the NZ sockets (he told her she would blow up the system!), but all was well in the end. When we arrived in the room there was water all over the floor near the fridge, which had defrosted, and sadly it never got cold enough to freeze the ice cubes. We were only there for two nights, and left so early the second morning that breakfast was not an issue. The breakfast I had on day one was ok, usual hotel fare, but unexciting and rather bland. There is little security at this hotel. You don't need your room card to make the lift work, and really the front desk staff paid little attention to who was coming and going. A sign on the front desk advertised coffee available from the restaurant, but the staff didn't seem to know if this was true. My friend insisted, and coffee was eventually made for her, but the restaurant was nonetheless resolutely closed. Weird. The room and the bathroom were both clean, and the hotel is conveniently near an excellent supermarket, plus there are plenty of restaurants in walking distance. OK, but not great.

We are sorry to hear your concerns, as such wee would like to reassure you since taking over the hotel Covid and the city development have hindered and planned development within the hotel, however changes are afoot. Good location for exploring the city. Just a couple of minutes to the tower and walking distance to the harbour and the shops. Took us half an hour with the morning traffic to get to the airport from here. We paid $35 for an overnight parking in the hotel and were given instructions on how to get there as there are roadworks in the area. What we did was set our destination to the Dunkin Donuts at 175 Queen St. instead of the hotel address and we found the carpark entry on the left of Durham St. West. Had to drive really slowly once on Durham St. as the turn off can easily be missed. Pressed the intercom button and we were given our parking bay. Hotel is old and looks overdue for a renovation. We booked a two bedroom, one bathroom suite with dual access to the bathroom but the other door does not lock. Air conditioning is only in the main room so we had to keep the door of the other room open to let the air in. The other room does not have a window and feels stuffy inside. Breakfast comes with the price and was reasonable.

We stayed at the President Hotel 3 times over the course of our 2 week trip travelling around Auckland. Rooms were quite average, but suitable for a one night stay for two people. Communication between staff was unsatisfactory as we received different versions of information each time we stayed about room accommodation requirements, in addition to struggling with the carpark and parking an average sized vehicle. Parking across the road was much easier. Overall - good room, unhappy with service.

Poor poor service. We would like to make another night, but we couldn’t book directly. The card to the room doesn’t work. We had a car, and we were promised a parking lot. But this wasn’t an opportunity. We ended up paying 122 dollars for one night at a private parking spot instead…

Hi, Thank you for your review and we are sorry to hear your concerns. We are sorry you were unable to book another night, unfortunately as this review does not allow us to see your booking and verify this we can only assume the hotel was fully booked. With regard to room key, this can be deactivated if put near a device which emits an electromagnetic field, this is why we do advise to keep it away from anything electronic or any magnet. We are sorry to about the car parking. Unfortunately because we can not see your booking we can not verify why this would have occurred. The hotel car park has limited spaces and has a height restriction of 1.8 meters and must be pre booked. Please contact the hotel so we can look into this further and provide an accurate response. Regards President Hotel

The location is great but the hotel is very tried and pretty basic. It looks like it has had better days. Parking is very expensive and other options are available near by. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast included was far better than we thought it would be.

HI, thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear your concerns, we hope you appreciate since taking over the hotel the Covid pandemic and the construction of the new subway trainline have delayed any plans for development, however we would like to reassure you changes are afoot. With regard to car parking, the price of NZD$35.00 is reasonable for such a central location in the heart of the CBD of the city of Auckland. You are correct there are other choices to park nearby, however the hotel car park allows multiple entry/exit, its located in the hotel building so need to carry luggage from a car park a distance away from the hotel and the check out time is later than most at 10 am. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the complimentary breakfast. Regards President Hotel

Good Point - Central location for all the city highlights. Bad Point(s) - The hotel is dated with no AC in the rooms. My main gripe was the parking. Fine paying the $35NZD fee, which is normal for city center. However, when asking to continue parking 2 hours after 10am check out… “that will be another $35NZD”. We checked in very late, so surely the 2 hours really wouldn’t have made a difference to the hotel, especially when check-in time for guests the following day is 3pm. A classic example that some smaller hotel chains care about service, but majority just don’t care!

Hi Adam, Thank you for your review and we are sorry to hear your concerns. We would like to reassure you all our hotel rooms haver air-conditioning. With regard to the car parking, yes there is an extra charge if you want to extend the check out time whether for the room and or car parking, this does not matter if you have checked in late as the check out time remains the same. However with guests checking in from 2 pm we do require the carpark to be cleared buy this time, however many guests wish to check in early and we need to be able to provide for this, this is why checkout remains at 10am with an extra charge for a late check out. Had we known any of your concerns at the time could have dealt with them accordingly at the time. Regards President Hotel

There are road works out the front and there was no instructions on how to get into the hotel with a car. Otherwise, the staff were lovely and very helpful. Breakfast was nice. The place is clean and tidy but dated. Fine for a family of four. Room was big beds comfortable. Can’t ask for much more

I am writing this review with a heavy heart as my stay at the President Hotel Auckland was far from the pleasant experience I had anticipated. The hotel, which boasts of its hospitality and customer service, fell short in delivering on its promises, primarily due to the appalling attitude of the receptionist at the breakfast restaurant. From the moment we stepped into the breakfast restaurant, we were met with an unwelcoming and cold demeanor from the receptionist. Her lack of professionalism was evident in her dismissive attitude and her unwillingness to assist us. We were left standing awkwardly, waiting for her to acknowledge our presence and guide us to a table. When we finally managed to get her attention, she seemed more interested in her phone than in providing us with the service we deserved. She pointed us to a table without even looking up, making us feel like an inconvenience rather than valued guests. Throughout our breakfast, her rudeness persisted. She was curt in her responses, and her tone was condescending when we asked about the menu options. It was as if we were burdening her with our queries. Moreover, when we requested for some dietary accommodations due to allergies, she responded with a blatant disregard for our health concerns. She made it seem like our request was an unreasonable demand, which was not only unprofessional but also potentially dangerous. The overall experience was marred by this individual's lack of hospitality and respect for guests. It's a shame because the hotel itself is quite lovely, and the other staff members were generally courteous and helpful. However, the receptionist at the breakfast restaurant left a sour taste in our mouths, quite literally. I hope the management of President Hotel Auckland takes this feedback seriously and ensures that all their staff members understand the importance of treating guests with respect and kindness. Until then, I regret to say that I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone, as one bad apple can indeed spoil the whole bunch.
