Firstly at 14.00, the check in time, there was a bit of a queue but when we had finally checked in, there was a wait for a lift - 3 lifts - one out of action, one had been commanderred by workmen and the remaining one was being used by a cleaner so the delay was even more - 30 minutes from queuing to check in to actually getting in the room. Once in the room, went to the kitchenette sink to get some water and the tap came away in my hand. Called the reception and a maintenance guy came quickly and repaired it. He commented that Housekeeping should have noticed and reported it - totally agree!! Finally thinking everything was now OK decided to have a bit of a rest before venturing out - No way!! The noise from presumably air conditioning outlets outside the windows was unacceptably high and we would definitely have problems sleeping for the 3 nights we were booked in for. Went down to reception and asked to be moved and after a while we were given a much quieter room which was fine The first morning at breakfast went in to the room and the first 4 tables were vacant but each had dirty dishes. There were no staff visible so I poked my head into the kitchen and 2 of the 3 staff were looking on their phones so I had to ask for the tables to be cleaned. The lady was very apologetic but it was not good and shouldn't have been necessary The remote for the AC wasn't working so asked housekeeping for new batteries. Was told to ask reception which I did and the girl made a note. Never materialised Rest of the stay was fine - nice hotel in good location with friendly staff although needs a bit of TLC - many cracked floor tiles plus a few other minor issues. Not sure I'd recommend or return

We had a wonderful experience at the President Hotel Auckland. We arrived early in the day and was able to store our luggage and go for lunch till our room was ready. We requested a quieter room as we are light sleepers and as there is still some construction on Victoria St (not as much noise now as construction is completing). Our room was clean and spacious. Our maid was very nice and topped up our bathroom with soap and replaced our towels as requested even though the hotel is eco-friendly and housekeeping was only done every 3 days. There are only a few pieces of furniture in the room but was adequate. The bathroom was smaller than we would have liked. The kitchenette with microwave and fridge was a delight.
The hotel is close to everything and only a block from Sky Tower from where we took the airport shuttle. The port is just a 10 minute walk down Queen street and 2 minute walk to Albert Park. Auckland Domain is about a 30 minute walk. There is a supermarket next door and lots of places to eat including food trucks across the street. I can't imagine a better location for a hotel. Once construction is complete, I would expect this hotel to be exceptionally popular with tourists.
A breakfast is included in our price but don't expect much. Premium coffee can be purchased at breakfast. There is a Starbucks a block away for those needing more coffee. The apple cider is excellent and made in NZ. The cider itself is worth the trip to the hotel's breakfast.

Good location for exploring the city. Just a couple of minutes to the tower and walking distance to the harbour and the shops. Took us half an hour with the morning traffic to get to the airport from here.
We paid $35 for an overnight parking in the hotel and were given instructions on how to get there as there are roadworks in the area. What we did was set our destination to the Dunkin Donuts at 175 Queen St. instead of the hotel address and we found the carpark entry on the left of Durham St. West. Had to drive really slowly once on Durham St. as the turn off can easily be missed. Pressed the intercom button and we were given our parking bay.
Hotel is old and looks overdue for a renovation. We booked a two bedroom, one bathroom suite with dual access to the bathroom but the other door does not lock. Air conditioning is only in the main room so we had to keep the door of the other room open to let the air in. The other room does not have a window and feels stuffy inside.
Breakfast comes with the price and was reasonable.

The worst experience of my NZ trip, bar none. Where even to start! Short version: Gross, loud, limited, maddening, will never return.
Long version: First, we had emailed ahead of time to make sure we were squared away and didn't need to know or do anything else but received no response. This is relevant because we were not informed of the construction that made the hotel inaccessible. After driving in circles for far too long, I finally left the car and hoofed it uphill multiple blocks to check in. The staff was friendly but clueless. After multiple attempts at getting information, we were finally directed to the public parking garage one street over. This meant $55/day parking instead of $35 and, more importantly, no way to get back into the hotel except by dragging our luggage through a back alley covered in pigeon poop and up multiple flights of stairs. Heaven help anyone in less than stellar physical condition. The elevators are rickety, visibly continue to move after the doors are open, and the doors themselves barely give you enough time to get in. The room had a dirty spoon left on the floor and black mold in the bathroom. The linens were stiff and cardboard. There were no washcloths at all and asking about them was met with bafflement. "If they're not in the room, we don't have them." Also, per the sign in the bathroom, guests are only allotted 15 minutes of hot water at a time. Godspeed to anyone with more than one person who needs to shower. Our neighbors partied from when we checked in at 9 PM to when we woke up at 5 AM, including raucous hallway shouting and banging, which meant they just about matched the noise level from outside. Traffic, construction, and horror movie screaming galore. I'm sure I'm forgetting other salient details, but these are the highlights that stuck out.

Hi, Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear this, however as we do not have your booking details we are unable to verify your concerns. We would like to reassure you we do reply to emails sent to us, and find it weird if we did not reply, we therefore question the email address you sent your email to? We would like to reassure you we do notify guests about the construction work within an arrival message. Unfortunately if you booked through a third party agent we do not get guest contact details, this means we would not have been able to contact you directly and therefore the concern regarding information about the construction work should be raised with the agent you booked with. We are unsure what you mean about our staff being clueless!? We would like to reassure you our staff are competent and this may have been just a misunderstanding. From the information you have provided it appears no car parking space was booked, and as spaces are limited it appears no car parking space was available at the hotel when you arrived. We do advise to pre-book next time. As there were no car parking spaces available would most likely be the reason why you was directed to one of the public car parks. We are sorry to hear your issue with the rear entrance to the hotel, unfortunately the lane is publicly owned and the staircase is part of the rear access, however had we known your issue we could have opened the access to the carpark where you could have used our elevators to bring you to reception. The elevators do work and are operational, however their programming priorities buttons in order sequence that are pressed and do open when returning to the ground floor which is the floor they return to when not in use. With regard to the room you was allocated, we can not confirm your concerns as we have no report from any guest about this and your review does not allow us to see your booking information. If this occurred we do apologies and it is not normal for our housekeeping team to miss therse concerns. With regard to the linen being stiff, we are sorry if it was not to your liking and this is not a concern we would normally have. With the face cloths, we are sorry however it is correct we no longer supply these. Protecting our precious environment is of high importance to our organisation. We recognise that care and attention is needed to help enhance the long term wellbeing of our environment, industry, country and the world. This is why we limit how long there is hot water and we do hope you appreciate our commitment to sustainability. We are sorry to hear that the neighboring room was partying all night, had we known we would have put a stop to it, as the hotel has a "No Party Policy". With regard to traffic and the construction of the new subway trainline, we are sorry if these inconvenienced you however these issues are outside of our control. Rest assured if we had known any of your concerns we would have dealt with them accordingly at the time. Regards President Hotel

Hi, Thank you for your review, we are sorry to hear your concerns and would like to reassure you we have looked into them. We can see a misunderstanding occurred regarding the date of your requested booking, however once the date was confirmed the team provided a quote. The quote was higher because the date you wanted to stay was a very busy period with all hotels in the city being sold out or almost sold out, this meant prices had gone up due to the demand, it was very busy during this time because of the events and concerts in the city. We would like to reassure you our team at the President Hotel are very helpful and friendly, of whom go out of their way to help guests on a daily basis. Unfortunately during this very busy period our team was very busy attending to guests in front of them and when they were not doing this they attended to enquiries online, we do apologies if there was any delay, however, our team aims to answer enquiries as quick as possible. With regard to our team offering you a room with a rollaway bed, we can confirm this was due to all the larger rooms being sold out and this was the only option available to accommodate you at the time. We do apologise and hope this clears up your concerns. Regards President Hotel

Stayed for 2 nights in early November 2022 in a King Standard Studio on the 4th floor. Room was basic but clean and comfortable with its own ensuite. The cooked breakfast included in the rate was enjoyable. Noise was an issue, as I could hear loud guests in the rooms near me until about 1.30am. Location is good with just a 5 minute walk to the Skytower and 10 minute walk to the Waterfront. Unfortunately there are a few beggars on the street outside the hotel. Carpark was $35 per night and fills up fast so you will need a reservation. It is a very small, tight carpark so don't attempt if you have anything bigger than a small compact car. Wilsons Carpark on Durham Lane nearby is $30 per night or $15 per night if you enter after 4pm and leave before 8am. Overall good value for money.

Spacious room (mine was seperate lounge), great price with breakfast included Very central location - 2mins walk to Sky City, 5 mins to Queen Street shopping and Waterfront. Hotel certainly isnt fancy but has everything you need and is clean and comfortable. Only downside are the roadworks which are due to continue for at least another year, so not quiet and area not the nicest with closed down shops and narrow footpaths due to barriers.

The good. The location and proximity to everything in the central city is excellent. The reception staff were very attentive and helpful. The breakfast was good and the staff were very skilled at keeping it all moving in a fairly small venue. The room rate is cheep compared to other hotels in this vicinity.
The average. The hotel itself has seen better days and could do with a refresh, but I guess this is reflected in the room rate. The window latch in our room didn't secure the window properly in place and being a Saturday night there was a lot of street noise and music from nearby bars etc that went well into the early hours. There was also quite a bit of noise within the hotel in the early hours from other guests returning to their rooms after a night on the town.
In summary if you are looking for a cheap hotel in the city centre, don't mind staying in a place that's dated (but clean), and you are a heavy sleeper (or can sleep with earplugs). This place is for you.

Upon arrival, we had to change our room to stay 3 nights, which went smoothly, the man at the counter was very accommodating, but unfortunately that's where the positives stop. We were woken every morning at 5am due to the construction work happening right outside our window (it would have been handy to have let us know about this beforehand) The bed was hard, with minimal blankets, so we were freezing, the air conditioner was available but very loud. We would have also liked our towels, milk etc replenished after 3 nights stay. The wifi was also so weak/slow, we didn't even bother to use it. And as we checked out the man at the counter tried to charge us an extra $184, without an explanation, we refused as we had paid and booked through booking.com, the man said we then didn't have to pay, which made us wonder why we were ever charged extra in the first place.
We will not be back and will be telling others about our horrible experience.

Hi Terri, Thank yo for your review. We are sorry to hear your concerns. With regard to the construction of the new subway trainline, it is on going throughout the city and the construction team do reassure us work generally does not start until 7 am and stops about 5:30 pm, if this was not the case and had we known we could have called the council to complain and stop the noise. We are sorry to hear about your bed, we would like to reassure you we have recently renewed most of the beds and mattresses and we are currently renewing all the rooms which have the old air con units in the hotel. With regard to blankets, there are always extra blankets in the drawers in every room of the hotel and we have extras available upon request. Since the Covid out break the hotel has kept a policy of servicing guests rooms every three days, as this limits contact between guests and staff, thus limiting the spread of the virus and decreasing chances of infection. The industry has also been severely impacted by Covid with staff shortages. However our team are more than willing to resupply guests rooms up on request and alternatively our 24 hour reception team keep supplies behind reception for such request any time of the day. Also had we known any of your issues during your stay our 24 hour team could have dealt with them accordingly. We are also sorry for any confusion upon check out, it appears when you extended your booking it made it appear there was an outstanding balance. We would also like to point out that even though your booking was made via Booking.com it can not be assumed your booking was pre-paid, as most bookings we receive through Booking.com are pay on arrival. We hope this reassures you and clarifies your concerns, we wish you a safe journey and hope to see you again. Regards President Hotel

I am writing this review with a heavy heart as my stay at the President Hotel Auckland was far from the pleasant experience I had anticipated. The hotel, which boasts of its hospitality and customer service, fell short in delivering on its promises, primarily due to the appalling attitude of the receptionist at the breakfast restaurant.
From the moment we stepped into the breakfast restaurant, we were met with an unwelcoming and cold demeanor from the receptionist. Her lack of professionalism was evident in her dismissive attitude and her unwillingness to assist us. We were left standing awkwardly, waiting for her to acknowledge our presence and guide us to a table.
When we finally managed to get her attention, she seemed more interested in her phone than in providing us with the service we deserved. She pointed us to a table without even looking up, making us feel like an inconvenience rather than valued guests.
Throughout our breakfast, her rudeness persisted. She was curt in her responses, and her tone was condescending when we asked about the menu options. It was as if we were burdening her with our queries.
Moreover, when we requested for some dietary accommodations due to allergies, she responded with a blatant disregard for our health concerns. She made it seem like our request was an unreasonable demand, which was not only unprofessional but also potentially dangerous.
The overall experience was marred by this individual's lack of hospitality and respect for guests. It's a shame because the hotel itself is quite lovely, and the other staff members were generally courteous and helpful. However, the receptionist at the breakfast restaurant left a sour taste in our mouths, quite literally.
I hope the management of President Hotel Auckland takes this feedback seriously and ensures that all their staff members understand the importance of treating guests with respect and kindness. Until then, I regret to say that I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone, as one bad apple can indeed spoil the whole bunch.
