The room my wife and I booked was smaller than the photos, with no space for a desk. I ended up doing work sitting on the bed, which was comfy, but not ideal. The location is good and building/amenities what you'd expect for a quality boutique hotel. Unfortunately the promised car parking was non-existent, so we had to pay extra for on-street parking. Also, responding to the e-mail or attempting to contact via the e-mail on their website resulted in a bounced message - it appears they haven't properly configured their e-mail hosting. Other attempts at contact via the booking app, to ask a question prior to arrival resulted in no response. However, the primary reason for a 1/5 review is the racist attitude and comments from the management. I hope the owners are appalled to know that the management ranted long and hard about anti-Māori, colonisation and te tiriti issues and made many inappropriate statements during a conversation when we were just hanging out in the main living area. We were shell-shocked and not prepared for such inappropriate behaviour and were at a total loss for words. I wish I was prepared and able to strongly express how inappropriate the kōrero was. In all our lives it was the absolute worst we'd ever encountered from an older Pākehā and we won't ever be going back because of this.…
Fabulous view from the “penthouse”. very tired bed head. Tiny bathroom. All mirrors for very tall people. Huge building works at the church next door. Was told we could park outside their garage and got two fines of $40 each weeks later. Lots of missed potential in a fabulous location
Beautiful period accommodation , lovely rooms and quality furnishings in the heart of the Ponsonby area. Gracious hosts welcomed us on our arrival and we quickly settled in. As a party of 4, we had the two rooms at the front of the house and we enjoyed the upstairs veranda area for hours. Close to many shops, cafes and restaurants (some quirky) we were able to easily walk to our chosen venues. Laundry facilities, kitchen area, a lounge room and bbq area were all available . Car parking was provided in the adjoining property. Would hesitate to recommend this property.
We stayed here Dec 2019 and loved this place. A very nice boutique hotel in a 'bohemian feel' district with good shopping, bars and restaurants. It is a leisurely 30-40 mins walk to central Auckland. Disappointed at first not to have a room with a view, we were given a garden room but though compact was very comfortable and we took breakfast on our garden terrace daily. The owner was very helpful with travel tips etc.
People say I’m a little (shall we say) tightly wound. I like to think I have high standards, which are well met each and every time my husband and I stay at Ponsonby Manor. So here’s a big shout out to Jill and the team for making our home away from home such a delightful experience.
We stayed in the detached cottage. Lovely quiet spot with its own outdoor sitting area and ensuite. Absolutely comfortable. Great conversations with the host, and did I mention the grapefruit? We will be back.
Stayed two wonderful nights at the Ponsonby Manor in the penthouse verandah room. We were having a staycation up from Wellington. I had seen the place on previous stays and I love Ponsonby so decided to give it a go. The manor was offering very good rates for the location due to the Covid downturn. The room was compact but had every thing you needed. The view was to die for of the quintessential Auckland skyline. I doubt there is a more fabulous view of Auckland and room 9, the penthouse verandah room would have to be the pick of the rooms. Jill the host is very friendly and amenable, yet unobtrusive. Unlike when you stay at an Airbnb and feel like you have to check in every time with your host. The bed was super comfortable. I'm glad I bought my hanging toilet bag as the bathroom was small. I would recommend taking a hanging toilet bag if staying here. Like the sea to summit one I have. The only improvement I would suggest is that they put a full length mirror somewhere. Even in the hallway. The inn is a grand old Ponsonby villa and the experience is deeply intimate unlike the large hotels downtown. There is the inner link bus stops steps away from the inn and will take you downtown or to the Newmarket shopping precinct. You need an AT hop card that you can get from the dairies. Ponsonby is a very chi chi suburb populated by dinks (double income no kids), the gay community and up and coming Aucklanders. It's our Surry Hills, Nottinghill or Haight Ashbury. The Ponsonby Road shopping strip is fabulous for shopaholics and foodies alike. Previously a working class suburb it has gentrified significantly over the last couple of decades and is now has some of the most expensive residential house prices in Auckland and NZ for that matter. We dined at the delicious Mekong Baby restaurant over the road and also at Bistro Bambina, our favourite Ponsonby cafe. To summarise. I am returning here when I can, especially if travelling solo. I loved it.…
This is a very nice boutique hotel in the mids of all the best shopping, bar and restaurants of Auckland. The owners deliver top service and will help you any way they can. The rooms have been beautiful restored and offer all the excellence you need in this minderen day.
My wife and I recently stayed 2 nights at the Ponsonby Guest Manor upon arrival in Auckland after our flight from the US. What a great find. This place is so quaint and beautiful. The owners, Rob and Jill are so nice and helpful. They accommodated our early check in request, gave us recommendations for nearby restaurants as well as things to do. Our room, although a bit on the small side had everything we needed. The Room was clean and the bed was large and comfortable. The manor also provided guests with access to a full kitchen. We loved sitting in the garden outside of our room in the evening and at breakfast. Another big plus is the manor‘s location. It’s just a short ride by bus to downtown. The Ponsonby area also has a large selection of restaurants, bars and shops. There is also a grocery store within walking distance. I highly recommend the Ponsonby Manor Guest House. What a neat place!…
Centrally located in a great area amongst wonderful restaurants and next to a beautiful old church. The accomodation was in a attachment to the beautifully restored old manor house, it was very clean, comfortable and the hosts were friendly and very welcoming. We accidentally left a vital piece of luggage in my room (namely my pillow) after we vacated and left Auckland and the hosts promptly posted it on to Wellington for me to collect on my travels A big thank you to Rob and Jill 10 out of 10
