Having read previous reviews (after booking) we were left a little concerned on various issues highlighted by contributors.

We had nothing to worry about at all ……… on arrival we enquired with a young lady from Sofitel as to which area to sit whilst waiting check in and she was most helpful. A member of Marsden staff arrived to collect us and the check in process was swift and efficient. The Sofitel building in which the Marsden rooms are located is a contemporary and elegant hotel which I can only imagine must cost a king’s ransom to stay in. Our room (433) was great and had everything we needed and more, particularly good quality toiletries, Nespresso coffee maker and pods, a fridge, ironing facilities etc etc. The bed was the best we have ever slept on and overall the room felt of a high standard and maybe worth a little more than the £100 pn paid.

Admittedly we had no intention to eat in the Sofitel so are unable to comment on what reception a diner would receive. Viaduct harbour is a very beautiful and vibrant area of Auckland with fabulous restaurants & entertainment venues within a 5 minute walk of the hotel, not too close to cause a disturbance to hotel residents.

The hotel is very conveniently located to easily access the CBD of Auckland and all major attractions. From the airport we took the Skycity City shuttle bus at around £17 for the two of us. From the sky city drop off it’s a steady 5-10 minute walk downhill to the harbour area and hotel.

Tips:

maybe ask for a harbour or internal view room. Room 433 looked onto a bus parking base which at times could be noisy and wasn’t the nicest of views.

If your room has a balcony please manage your expectations as it is literally patio doors which open onto the thinnest of strips which you would struggle to be able to step onto. Good for providing a bit of fresh air but nothing more

This hotel is inside the Sofitel and the instructions we received prior to our arrival were easy to follow.

We called the phone number and promptly downstairs we were greeted by one of their staff. They took us to level 3 which is where the reception is located. We arrived early however our room was available.

The staff member took us to our room which was HUGE! We were located on level 4. The room had a very comfy king bed, lounge and large bathroom with a seperate bath. We didn't use the bath but it was huge. The shower had good water pressure and had 2 options - rainfall or adjustable. The room was very quiet and you couldn't hear doors opening and closing.

The staff gave us recommendations of where to eat and to park the car. They were very helpful.

ps
As it isn't the Sofitel you can't use the facilities however the Sofitel is currently undergoing renovations.

Firstly, the hotel is co-located within the Sofitel hotel. This information isn’t clear when booking or on the booking confirmation. It is only advised in an email they send later, which if you don’t check it, you have no idea. There is no signage in the foyer of the Sofitel or instructions to call the hotel so that someone can come down and meet you.

When calling the hotel and asking about the location and parking, poor instructions were given.

The room was nice and spacious as was the bathroom, with both a shower and a bath. The TV would not connect to the wifi and was useless.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. We were a bit nervous staying at this hotel after looking at the reviews on trip advisor, which is why I feel necessary to write this review.

We arrived knowing that the hotel itself is situated inside the Sofitel and that we would be unable to use the Sofitel amenities, but considering we got a great price for a midweek stay by booking with the hotel directly, we weren’t concerned.

We followed the instructions on arrival and phoned the number and someone came straight down to meet us. We were taken up to the 3rd floor office and check in was a breeze.

I have stayed at Sofitel hotels many times and the service is next level and the rooms are beautiful, so was lowering my expectations for this trip. Let me say I was very pleasantly surprised.

The room was large and spacious, the bed was a large king size and very comfortable and the bathroom was huge with a bath separate to the shower. There was a small veranda with a sliding door to let in some fresh air and a mini fridge. There was also a separate sink to fill up the kettle in the small kitchenette area.

This hotel is great value in a great location and I would recommend.

Booked a luxury marina view..

Nothing luxury about this place except the entrance (which is actually Sofitel)

Nothing in the room worked, found previous guests things so room clearly not cleaned properly, curtains were hanging off and the blind was broken so couldn’t actually see the marina view paid for. Also bring your own bubble bath and bath wash etc as they don’t even provide that!!

Requested a refund and this was declined so needless to say I would not recommend staying here

We stayed for 3 nights and thought the value for money at The Marsden was great. To be in this location at this price point was fantastic. There were some small issues with the room, such as the kitchenette tap not working, a curtain off its rails in part, no bathroom fan, but for the value we could look past this. Would return.

Although this hotel is inside Sofitel BUT not part of it - for the price it was absolutely fantastic. The service was amazing (you call a mobile) for a person to come collect you in Sofitel foyer. And the whole experience was simple, the rooms elegant - I’d call it 5 star as at today.
The view from my room extraordinary 👌

Good value for money. Service was good and the premises is located in a convenient location to other restaurants and other amenities.

It is located within the Sofitel hotel and signage is poor but once you understand how to get in and out you’re good.

The room on the 5th floor was modern, clean and spacious. Balconies looking over the Viaduct Harbour, walk to the restaurants in the Wynyard Quarter, Viaduct basin and Sky Tower. We parked at a Wilson's carpark nearby for $50 for 2.5 days.
Staff were very helpful.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return.
