Detailed Reviews
Hotel Fitzroy is a stunning new luxury hotel that has just opened in the heart of Ponsonby, Auckland New Zealand.
Hosting a few visiting international celebrities in their opening week, this place is going to be a huge success with locals and tourists alike.
We were greeted with warm smiles by the manager Sara and after a delicious welcoming signature spritz tea and paperless check-in we got shown to the Richmond Suite. All the products in the room are eco friendly and sustainable, including the key card. Every room features Dyson hairdryers, Complimentary mini bar, Local and sustainable luxurious bathroom amenities, robe and slippers
Following a quick shopping trip to the nearby Ponsonby Central we settled in for some Complimentary hors d’oeuvres, wine and Gin and tonics in the library with Sarah who really is an amazing host and an asset to the company.
The next morning we awoke to the In-room breakfast served in bed (freshly squeezed orange juice, barista coffee, pancakes, bacon, granola, fruit, croissants)
We’re excited to see such an amazing, bespoke boutique hotel opening up in Ponsonby and look forward to spending another staycation there in the near future.

We have just returned from staying at Hotel Fitzroy and loved our time there. It was interesting reading the average reviews not sure what these people expect in a hotel room because we thought it was very nice. We had the Richmond Suite and the size was fine for a few days, we only had carry on luggage and it fitted in fine leaving space to move around. The decor was lovely as was the large walk-in shower. I found the bed very comfortable and slept well. So many hotels have bulky hard pillows that hurt my neck but this one was soft and comfy. The breakfast was a bit difficult to eat, first day we sat outside but the trays were too large to sit on table so had to take everything off, still not enough table space as you get so much breakfast. The French toast unfortunately was a bit eggy in places so a little disappointing, breakfast presentation was good though. My husbands eggs were good and runny as he likes them. The 2nd breakfast we had in our room, it was a bit tricky with no table but I sat on the sofa with tray also on sofa and it worked fine. This time I had the pancakes which were very good, hubby had mushrooms and said they were delicious. We liked the opportunity to use the open bar at night and having the little treats in our room. The nibbles with drinks was a nice gesture but would recommend heating the Vol-ay-vents first as they weren’t great. A suggestion maybe just cheese, pate and crackers/bread would be better. Service was impeccable so thanks to Sarah who was a great host. Location is perfect a block from Ponsonby Central and restaurants. One night we walked to a restaurant in Britomart as it was all down hill and an Uber back was only $10. We didn’t hear any noise from any other guests even though the hotel was full. We would definitely stay again.

Hotel Fitzroy is more like staying in a luxury home of your dreams than a hotel making it one of the best hotel stays we’ve had yet. Beautifully designed in a gorgeous high ceiling villa you instantly feel welcome. Rooms are small but lovely with gorgeous bathrooms. Ours was across from the library which was perfect as from 4-10pm you can help yourself to complimentary wine etc so we could just step out of our room for a glass of Pinot or a port in between lounging in bed watching movies - bliss. From 5-6 we sat out on the lovely balcony listening to music and enjoying more free drinks and absolutely delicious nibbles and then strolled into the heart of ponsonby for dinner 5mins away. All of this combined to making us feel like we were living a fantasy life of a rich Ponsonby resident for 24hours. The included breakfast in bed in the morning is to die for and the BEST coffee!

Just newly opened in Auckland's Ponsonby, it looked inviting & luxurious. In reality it is very average, more style before substance. First off the staff while polite & pleasant were a bit lack lustre and ineffective. We were asked by email what complimentary beverage we would like, as it was my birthday we informed them that I enjoyed Irish whiskey. When we got there and were offered a complimentary beverage we were informed that they didn't have Irish whiskey only Scotch. So it seemed pointless to ask what beverage was preferred before hand when you don't have it! The bed in the room felt small & rather thin, didn't sleep well & woke up with a sore back. Breakfast in the morning was served in room on trays, all rather romantic but there was no table or desk to eat them off, so it was rather precarious. Overall I felt that the Fitzroy is rather overpriced for what is actually delivered. We would not recommend or be revisting.

Everything about the Hotel Fitzroy Curated by Fable is magnificent. A perfect combination of practicality, location, modernity and luxury. Steven and Pete also impress by the elegance and respect in their service. It is a hotel that deserves to be known, as it is a little piece of paradise on earth.
Steve is aware of your arrival as you walk up the perfectly maintained garden path and greets you at the front door to guide you to the most quaint room with stunning Moooi designer chairs. You are served a demitasse cup of Manuka, lemongrass and ginger sours tea with a spritz of freshness and a parmesan and sumac shortbread. Upon being settled in comfort Pete reviewed our itinerary, breakfast choices and information about the library, afternoon cocktails and canapes are all chatted through. It was the most welcoming reception that we've ever experienced and was just the first in a weekend of exceptional attention.
We were shown to our room, past beautiful pieces of art curated for this hotel. The room was well appointed with a mini-bar that was complimentary and included water, soft drinks, nibbles, coffee, tea and was replenished daily. Late afternoon we enjoyed the canapes and cocktails on an upstairs balcony, enjoying our setting, each others company and the perfect service from the team. They were engaging, chatty and ensured our glasses were never empty. Simply a step beyond in service and attention to detail.
Breakfast is offered on the terrace or in your room. We chose to have it delivered to our room and it arrived exactly at the time requested. The options were all perfect in taste and size, a wonderful way to start the morning and the coffee was divine.
As a guest of the Hotel Fitzroy you feel like you are the only guests the team have, attention to every detail, service that is exemplary, luxury at it's best in Ponsonby. An experience of "connecting the dots" that the team does so well. We were honestly blown away by this two night stay and have recommended it to family and friends. It isn't just a getaway in Auckland, close to the Ponsonby shops and eateries, but it is a magical little getaway that ensures you will return again and again. Hats off to all the staff and thank you, every little detail exceeded any expectations we had.

I spent one night at Fitzroy with my partner and we were received with warmth by Sarah. The hotel is an intimate place full of details. A small but candid library makes de perfect place to work or read while taking a glass of wine. I'm very sensitive to smells, and the hotel smells amazingly well, that's something the group knows how to do. The bedroom was fully equipped with all you can need, I was even shocked when I saw they have Dyson Supersonic hair dryers in every bedroom, and a Dyson Airwrap set on request! Those details turn a 5* accomodation into a 5* ++. The convenience of the location to most of the best restaurants in Ponsonby is great. Special mention to Carol as well, who looked after us before even arriving in the hotel. All of the best to the staff and team at Fitztoy.

Beautiful hotel, we felt welcome and special from the moment we arrived. My daughter and I met in Auckland to spend a couple of days together. The location was perfect just a couple of minutes from Ponsonby Central and we walked most places we wanted to go. Amazing breakfast served in our room kept us going all day and the canapés and drinks from 5-6 were delightful with a different offering both nights we were there.
We were referred to by our names when we saw hotel staff, it was a very pleasant stay, and I look forward to returning.

Stayed here for 2 nights as part of a Luxury Escapes deal. Lovely old building, very friendly and welcoming staff. Room was beautifully furnished, exposed concrete walls and wood, in beautiful peaceful colors. Found the room quite small, not a lot of space to put your bag.
Enjoyed mingling with the other guests and staff at the Cocktail hour from 5-6pm upstairs.

I stayed at the hotel with My husband to celebrate his birthday, and what an experience! I am super environmentally conscious and so is the hotel, they already won me there!
Reception is so exquisite that makes you interested on what is next, And there you are having nibbles And drinks at the library, And the limited guests in the hotel makes it very exclusive.
In the room you find everything extremely comfy, you can dive into the minibar and I am sure you will love those treats!
All the staff makes you feel super welcome, they help you to adjust diet requirements with your personalised breakfast (I am dairy free).
I really took my time to write this review, because I travel a lot and I appreciated everything I found at Fitzroy Hotel, And it is well located, So I am definitely excited for when I am coming back!

It was our first family staycation and we loved staying at the Hotel Fitzroy. The service was excellent, personalised and they just went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. The whole place is beautifully styled with modern facilities, the early drinks service is a great way to mix with other guests which we loved doing and the breakfast was delicious. Sarah, Steven and the rest of team thank you for making our stay memorable.
