So/ Auckland Hotel garners praise for its professional staff and efficient service, complete with appreciated complimentary amenities. While views on value diverge, with some guests deeming it overpriced, others are enamored by its stylish atmosphere and modern amenities. The spacious, clean rooms with comfortable beds are often lauded, although the open bathroom layout may not suit everyone's taste. Standout features include the Club Signature Lounge and a range of facilities such as a rooftop bar, gym, and pool, all contributing to the hotel's acclaim.

Our recent stay at the So Hotel in Auckland was for a special treat. The layout of the room was excellent. We took advantage of the So Club and the staff in this area were very friendly - we were somewhat disappointed with the lack of housekeeping - rooms not being supplied with fresh towels and toiletries daily nor loo paper which is an expectation of a hotel of this caliber and cost. The piped music in some areas was pretty awful. The Wellness Spa was excellent but somewhat pricey.

The SO was a really great place to stay and was as good as anywhere we have stayed in Auckland. Check in was fine, the lobby is very "curated" and has a bit of artifice but the entry level club room was really stylish and well equipped. We really enjoyed everything about the room except the street noise even on the 10th floor was significant at night.

The Club lounge was exceptional, afternoon tea with a choice of 17 teas, cocktails made to order for evening drinks and high quality New Zealand wines, delicious canapés. The lounge was great. Breakfast in a private dining room was also tasty. As the country transitioned in to COVID 19 lockdown dining in the restaurant wasn't possible and we had room service on three nights which was good (the only gripe being cold fries). Service by Som in the lounge was the best we have had in the dozens of club lounges we have been in over the world, her enthusiasm and talent was really appreciated. Will was also wonderful. Service elsewhere was more patchy, breakfast orders were not written down so they were not correct, being asked to leave HI-SO on the roof as the bar was closing less that 5 minutes after getting our first cocktail (we had to take them back to our rooms as we were told to drink them quickly). The venue wasn't really for us, the crowd was young, keen on drinking a lot and allowed to smoke on the terrace. We didn't feel particularly welcomed as house guests. The DJ was great however and the venue was stylish. Overall, this is a design hotel that went beyond aesthetics and particularly in the Club lounge offered exceptional, friendly international standard service. We look forward to returning in the future.

We love the Accor group and as members we frequently stay at SO and Sofitel as a holiday in our own city when we can’t escape our busy lives. SO is a very stylish and chic hotel. The rooms are gorgeous with modern interior fitout and amenities. Even the lowest tier rooms are gorgeous and super comfortable! The restaurants and bars are very nice too, particularly Harbour Society which always delivers on beautiful meals.

The only thing that disappointed us this time was the person who was on the front desk at check in. We had been out at a work party and didn’t get in for check in until the wee hours of the morning - my partner and I felt like we were being judged as, the person made a comment about how little hours we had left in the room which made us feel like the nature of our stay may have been something it wasn’t. When I asked to book another night he said they were fully booked. I went online and found the exact same room still available and rebooked another night.

Thankfully the rest of the staff are all lovely and go above and beyond.

The spa staff are fabulous and offer amazing treatments.

Overall our stays are always enjoyable. It is expensive however you do get value for money - particularly if you stay in one of the club rooms :)

Dear M0r94nH, Thank you for staying at our Accor properties on a regular basis. We're grateful for your loyalty. Thanks also for describing the rooms as gorgeous and modern as well as the nice comments abour Harbour Society. I acknowledge your point about the late night check in and I'm sorry we got it wrong. The team are genuinely friendly and I can only think that this went a little too far. We'll have a chat with them and get them back on track in all apsects. Next time you're heading back to Auckland, please drop me a note. I'd like to oversee your booking directly and ensure you have a great stay. Having heard some great things about So Auckland, i booked New Years Eve for 2 rooms online for 4 adults and 2 chidren, 1 child in each room. I mainly booked the hotel as id heard how great the view was from the rooftop bar are and thought this would be a good way to see some of the evening out heading towards midnight. Checked in to the hotel with some great expactations only to be told the rooftop bar was closed for a private fuction the hotel was running for NYE. Fair to say i was pretty disapointed, would have thought this would have been commincated at the time of booking given its the best feature of the hotel. Not the end of the world lets just put that behind us.... Make our way to the rooms to find 1 bed for the adults and nothing for the kids, not even room to put in a temporary bed. I head back to recpetion to discuss this point with the manager and 2 1/2 hours later the resolution is providing us a 3rd room. Hardly the experiance i was looking forward too on NYE having had my parents drive 7 hours from Wgtn region the day before to spend some quality time with us. My biggest gripe about the hotel were the lifts and the noise in the room. Given the volume of people in the hotel, there were queues waiting for the lifts, at worst i had a 25min wait to get to level 1 to our room, i find that completely ridcoulous. The system being used on the lifts, as much as it provides secure access only to the guests stayng on the floors is so inflexiable and unable to handle volumes of people. We ended up being spread over three different floors, not a chance of being able to visit our family at there rooms on the 2 other levels. our room faced Customs St & was so noisy from cars going past. This trip however was memorable for all the wrong reasons. The Hotel seriously needs to sort itself out it was a complete disaster.

Dear shaunt749, We're sorry to read that your New Years Eve experience wasn't a great one. I would very much like to connect to discuss your stay in person. Please reach me on stephen.gould@accor.com to talk more. I'd really like to find a way to put things right. I did also just want to clarify that the event at HI-SO bar was ticketed and open to guests and the public. I'm sorry that these sold out before you were able to secure a ticket. I hope to hear from you shortly. Kind regards from SO, Stephen Gould - General Manager

This was the perfect city accommodation for us, everything working smoothly especially at breakfast (didn't feel forgotten for a moment which is rare) and really loved our So Comfy room, even so much that sometimes it was hard to get out to see the city...! Loved especially the layout with open bathroom & bathtub in the middle, the interior design with stone tiles, the bed with 4 different pillows (I slept so well <3), proper coffee machine + the cosmetics and movie selection which were surprisingly good - not always the case even in high quality hotels.
If you're sensitive to traffic noise it's a very good idea to spend a little more in a room higher up, ours was in 7th floor which was excellent even though there's construction going on next door; we heard only tiny background noise.
Only minus for this hotel is sustainability and plastic: I really don't see the point of changing towels every day even when we didn't ask for it (usually by leaving them on the floor, those hanging get to stay) and the tea bags were plastic ones which is not good with hot water in terms of getting microplastics in your body. But these were small issues, all in all a relaxing place to stay while in the city :)

Dear AnemoneRi, Thank you for the great review! We are pleased to hear that you were nice and relaxed at SO/ Auckland. We're also working on ways in which we can improve our sustainable approach more and thanks for raising this up. By removing the PET bottles from our bathroom amenity offering and replacing them with luxurious oversized dispensers, we've saved thousands of plastic bottles from landfill. Time for us to take this even further. We hope to see you again soon. Kind regards from SO, Stephen Gould - General Manager

This hotel is SO incredible. The interior design of the hotel is SO modern and like nothing else I have stayed in.
We had a warm greeting and were treated SO like royalty.
The bedroom is SO spacious and had floor to ceiling windows. The room had a very luxurious bathroom (but you would need to feel SO comfortable with the person you were sharing with). There was also the free mini-bar and plenty of herbal teas and espresso coffees.

The Hotel has a very modern and trendy feel to it and is located very central to everything that we wanted . The best part of this hotel is the Club lounge and the team that run this who make you feel welcome, the food and drink in the lounge is good value.

The general customer service from the staff is not 5 star and the general organisation requires improvement to make it all much smoother. A big bug bear is the rubbish tiling on the balcony's which have been poorly placed and wobble under your feet, this poor workmanship is not what you expect to find in a 5 star hotel.

The Harbour Society Restaurant is worth every penny and the food is to die for, i would recommend trying thing for dinner .

I arrived on Thursday and left Sunday, and was thoroughly impressed by the quality of the room and the staff's service. I had purchased a Club room as the size, layout, and view appealed to me, but I blown away by how welcome the staff of the Club itself made me feel. My especial thanks to the young woman who went on a hotel wide search for Campari after I asked if they could make me a Negroni cocktail, that was well over and above my expectations.

Breakfast at Harbour Society was very good, and I hope to visit it for dinner on my next trip to Auckland.

My only complaint is in regards to the quality of the sound-proofing in the room, which was insufficient to keep out the noise from the HI-SO bar.

What a truly remarkable hotel experience my mother & I had. We stayed for one week, had the breakfast inclusion and we can both honestly say our experience was faultless.
The room was beautifully decorated, spaced out & contemporary art deco.
On arrival we were greeted by a beautiful welcome platter of macarons.
The room was cleaned with care everyday, with the mini bar (non alcoholic) being replenished everyday.

The breakfast, was the best breakfast in Auckland.
Made fresh to order you have the choice of 3 dishes and sides, with two drinks. Service with a smile everyday by the beautiful wait staff, my sincere commendation to the chef.

All staff are accommodating, friendly & sincere care to help all patrons and we felt very at home at this beautiful hotel.

This is the first time I stayed at the So Auckland. The hotel gave me a nice upgrade to a club suite that has a view to the waterfront. The room is decorated in the So style design, which I love. Some people might find the room decoration too dark but the hotel has put enough lights in the room to brighten up the environment. All you need to do is play with the lighting combination.

The only issue I have with the room is the curtains in the living room. When the sun is up in the morning, it will shine directly into the room and on the desk. As I am on business trip, I put my laptop on the desk to do all my work. With the sun shining on the desk, the only way I could work is to put the curtains and shut out the sun. Unfortunately the curtain's length goes all the way to the floor and there are wires running from the desk to the wall electric sockets. So it is impossible to draw the curtains with the wires in the way. My suggestion to the hotel GM, Mr. Stephen Gould, is to cut the curtains shorter so that I goes above the wall electric sockets. This is a cheap and easy way of resolving the problem.

The facility that I love most about this hotel is the indoor heated swimming pool in the basement. It has a decent 20 meters length for lap swimming. It is beautiful and there is a jacuzzi just beside the pool where you can dip after the swim.

They have a restaurant on the 15th Floor. The food they served is excellent. The chef knows how to combine the best of both eastern and western cooking to give you a culinary experience that you will not forget. I had the clam spaghetti. The spaghetti was handmade with the taste of Chinese noodles but retains the al denta texture of Italian spaghetti. The chef even put in XO sauce (Chinese ingredient) to enhance the taste. I wanted to have dinner there on the 2nd night but the restaurant was fully booked.

Anyway, I will be back in Auckland in a few months time and I will continue to stay with them.
