Pro- Location cannot be beat.
Con- Does not have a 24 hour desk as advertised. Staff told me if I arrived one minute later I would not have been able to check in that night. Which would have sucked after an international flight.

Staff where firendly and the hostel was clean. However very big and the facilities didn’t cater for the number of people staying. Everyone kept to themselves but has a very good location. Only a 10 minute walk into the harbour

We spent the night at Metro Adventurer Backpackers in central Auckland. It is very conveniently situated - just a few steps away from the Sky Tower bus hub. The staff were very friendly & helpful (particularly the young guy from Peru who was working at reception on our arrival.)
We booked a double room, which was small, but clean, the bed was comfortable, & the linen clean. Showers were clean & the water was hot; the communal kitchen that we used, (there are 2), was large & well stocked.
But - our room was hot, stuffy & airless. With no opening windows & no air conditioning in the room (there are air con vents, but the room was not connected - even though the kitchen was beautifully cooled with air conditioning, as were the dorm rooms.) There was a fan in the room, & that did help, but it was almost unbearable in the late afternoon - hot, stuffy & with stale air. When we returned after dark, turned on the fan & left the door ajar for a while it did cool down.
So, a great place, great location - just hook up the air conditioning to all the rooms!

Immediately left after seeing condition of the facility and especially the bedding. Crowed and dirty. Mattress and mattress pad were filthy/ stained. Would not let my dog sleep on that bed! Pre-Paid for 2 nights and management refused any refund as they said they had been giving out “too many refunds lately”. That should speak for itself!

This would be a long rant but I feel I should be honest here about how a seemingly perfect stay turned into a backpacker's worst nightmare.
From the start, they made the booking troublesome. I chose the 8-bed dorm option since there are 8 of us. So I requested to put me & my group of 8 together in one dorm if convenient. They wanted to charge me extra NZD32 for that since they've already placed us in a 16-bed dorm.
I wasn't happy because there wasn't any mention of 16-bed dorms in their listing during the time I booked. But given their general good review, I agreed to pay the extra amount but not without mentioning their misleading arrangement. In the end, they decided to put us in an 8-bed dorm without extra charge after all.
Dirty sheets & pillow cases with stain upon check-in. Malfunctioning door. Refused to refund our parking fee of NZD40 when we couldn't park out van in their basement due to height limit issue (staff said it's too troublesome to refund us due to accounting reasons, which to me, was quite poor of an excuse for customer service).
They kept insisting that we spend on other things they offer as a way to avoid refunding us. They made us rent 8 towels from them for NZD16 (at that point, we did because we too were frustrated) and buy toothbrushes from them (this ridiculous offer we refused). Guess what, things were so topsy turvy that they gave us floor mats as towels. Oh gawd.
At one point they gave up and refunded us NZD24 in cash. Could've been easier if they chose to refund us earlier.
Other things to note: Every corner of the facility is dirty despite its nice interior. Staff rushed in to the dorm to remove sheets while we were still packing up for check-out.
I'm not a fussy traveller. But Metro Adventurers didn't even meet the basic requirements of a budget hostel. Sigh. It was in a superb location though. What a waste.

if you're looking to make friends this hostel is the place for you. The vibe here is super outgoing, the staff are helpful and the amenities are ultra modern. The kitchen was clean which is always important for me. There is a communal lounge area but limited seats if you're looking to cosy down get in there early. Only thing I would mention is that our room didn't have a window or good ventilation and was very smelly when we walked in...think there was a long term stayer in there with their rubbish everywhere.Would recommend and go again, location is hard to beat. What a bargain!

Really bad. Really loud. The rooms have too many bunk beds. Think of a 4 person room with an extra pair of bunk beds added. The hostel makes more $ but the travelers are stuck in a too small room. There are only tiny lockers so bags are all over the floor and you can't even walk around in the room. The hostel is very loud ALL THE TIME. The staff is very unfriendly and very unprofessional. They don't give any information about kitchen, bathrooms etc. They just play on their phones and get visibly upset if you ask questions. I tried to talk to the manager and she couldn't care less. Basically told me that's just how it is. RUDE! AVOID THIS PLACE. There are plenty of other way better places. I left after 1 night. It was 1 night too many. Nothing positive at all.
