I arrived around 13:00 and staff were present to let me in. I was pointed towards my room and it was ok. At the door way there was a stained carpet but once in the room it was ok. I wanted a room to myself with a clean bathroom, bed linen and a decent lock. I also wanted to be in easy reach of the city centre. The staff were nice enough and allowed me to leave my luggage for a few hours after check out. They also suggested museums that might be worth seeing. By chance the other residents were also ok. Having seen other reviews I’m not sure what they expect for the money. It definitely needs money spent on it such a new bathroom door in 107. It’s certainly aimed at temporary workers that come and go rather than holiday makers. For example it’s impossible to see out the windows due the other buildings being so close to it. Overall I’d definitely recommend to anyone wanting cheap central room and only intends to sleep in it. Go in with your eyes open and it s a super cheap room with the bare essentials.

Didn’t end up staying as it was recommended by staff that I should book elsewhere as no one would be working to check us in late. I asked if they would waive the fees as they had told me to cancel, they themselves denied the request to waive fees saying that I cancelled the day of arrival (when in fact I cancelled the day before). I was really, really disappointed in how they handled it and how they responded to my messages, it was all very curt and dismissive. Even if I am wholeheartedly in the wrong it was an honest mistake and they would have handled it better. Not great customer service at all.

This was the worst accomodation I have ever seen. No ammenities in the room. The room smelt, stained carpet, holes in the curtains, holes in the floor boards, the carpet held the floor together. There was no heating/cooling. This should be condemned.

I stayed in this hotel for two weeks, so I know how it works very well. Let’s start with checking in. The exchange was prickly although the manager is nice enough. She is probably the only member of staff decent at her job. In my limited interactions with the rest of the staff, I found them pretty unprofessional to say the least. For example, I asked for a kettle and received it 5 days later. For my stay, I booked a single room with ensuite bathroom of 15m2. The room; only featuring a standing fan - is fine, but as the bathroom is quite spacious it takes up 40% of the entire space. The room itself has a single bed, two hangers, a table and chair and a standing fan. The spare blanket had hair on it. The toilet however, has an overwhelming smell of sewage that never leaves. It really reeks. Toilet paper is 1 ply. The Wifi was quite bad and constantly went off, even Netflix wouldn’t work. After returning overseas, I decided to voluntarily see out my isolation in this hotel. I followed the guidelines and advice from the Health Department during my stay. Twice I went to the kitchen to use the microwave to heat up food. The first time the staff called the police on me, and the second time they threatened to kick me out. 5 days later, The owner himself came to my door swearing at me and saying I’m “not that smart” and he will “kick me the F out”. I followed the guidelines from the Health Department to the letter when using the microwave for the 2 minutes, even having my mask on. It was late and I did not expect the kitchen to be full of people. One of the guests came from another room to confront me, saying that I “was not supposed to be out of my room”. I did not engage, but remain concerned that the hotel had disclosed my identity and circumstance to other guests. I am honestly very clean and this person looked like he had not washed his hair for at least a week under his baseball cap. Coronavirus or not, I would not stand very close to him. Moving on, the guest complained to management, and for the next 5 days I had several members of staff knock on my door, telling me that I was not supposed to “leave my room”, culminating with the manager and then the owner threatening to kick me out. He then told me he checked the cameras and will be doing so to see if I left my room. I asked for a refund as I was willing to leave at that point but he got aggressive and scoffed, repeating that he could “kick me the F out, right now”. I felt completely horrible and unwelcome throughout my stay, but knew that if I had let them kick me out and keep more than $700 of my money, I would have felt worse. I stay in hotels many times throughout the year and I have never had such rude and terrible service, with junior staff screaming at me that I “can’t leave my room” to the slow or non response of the manager on duty to the multiple occasions of banging on my door preceding getting cussed out. This was the only hotel I could afford with my budget and the only hotel which had a 14-day availability (I booked 2 days before check in), and I guess you get what you pay for. There are plenty of cheaper alternatives with full amenities which should be suitable for your trip. The only saving grace is that the coffee is not bad. The bountiful options on food delivery apps take care of that though.

This hotel was great for a night or two. Good, clean and comfortable rooms and a great communal lounge. Friendly staff and a well equipped kitchen. Good value for money. They could probably charge a bit more if they updated the carpets.

We stay at this hotel , and the only point positive us the friendly guy in the reception from France. The rest a nightmare , for start is a short lady that goes around very rude , I don't know if is the owner ,looks like a homeless... The carpet in the room is super old and dirt , the rules is just ridiculous you pay 700 aud if the alarm goes off, I understand if you smoking you need to pay , but if you take a hot long shower ?? Ofcourse our showers as very short and almost cold water , because we are afraid of this rules... We checkout 2 days before and moved to another hotel

Found the greeting at reception a bit off, it was closed, someone appeared but very little communication. Ensuite room was acceptable, bathroom had been refurbished. Lack of bedside lights. Kitchen arrangements were not explained at reception but by another guest. You need to get a box of plates, cutlery etc etc from reception and follow the rules in the kitchen. Room smelt of chinese, that was because the windows were open and there is an oriental restaurant on the corner (it was ok, we tried it). Location good for the main shopping area, the station, restaurants etc. All in all, it was an above average stay.

I booked this place for 3 nights, wanted something central and although it was still over $100 a night, it was cheaper than other options. I wasn't expecting that much, but the photo's were definitely taken years ago! Check in staff seemed ok, but not overly friendly.. I booked a private single room. It was small, had a good fridge and a fan, but that's it! Sofa was gross - throw it out, who knows what all the stains were. And the carpet was long overdue a replacement - yuck! Bed was clean, but very hard and springs could be felt through the mattress. Room was quiet enough, but floors were so thin and creaky. Desk was broken. Bathroom was small, no where to put anything, and shower water overflowed after just a few minutes! I'm glad there was a fan, but for the price you pay, they need air con. Wifi was free, but didn't work well. I didn't use any other facilities.

Myself and my friend stayed at the Akara for a short period of time before moving on (to better things) The staff working in the hostel are nothing short of fantastic, but overworked and from what I can gather...underpaid. Management don’t appear to care about staff morale as this seems to be at an all time low. The staff do their best with the time and resources they are given. Rooms are always cleaned to a high standard and bed linen and towels are provided upon request. Whilst living here for over a month, the tumble dryer remained out of use. However you were able to use the housekeeping dryer, although this proved a task in itself for the staff having to walk two flights of stairs to let you in. There is no lift in the hostel, so I wouldn’t recommend coming here if you have a large amount of luggage. The communal area was a pleasant room to spend time in, a small TV and an array of books to read were a good touch. However and now let’s move on to the kitchen.... It seems that people have lost sight as to where the toilets are. As once the kitchen is cleaned it is short lived through people creating a decadent ensemble of filth. It is obvious that a large amount of people staying at this hostel were not taught basic manners, and how to wash their grim meat sodden chopping boards. (your ma’s not here, wash your own stuff up) Flies, ants and a cockroach to name a few of the creatures we spied roaming the surfaces during our time here. if I had to rate the kitchen out of 10, I’d struggle to give it a 3.
