4 stars for value, three for cleaning. We wanted a place to stay that could accommodate a family of 4 near to theatres for under $200 a night and this fit the bill. Its pretty basic in terms of furniture and some of the complaints that other posters have made are true. Cleaning is basic -the unit was clean however it was not brilliant. We lost something and in looking under everything to try and find it we uncovered a lot of dust, lost bits and pieces of food etc that thorough cleaning should pick up.

Furniture is basic too but does the job, I found the bed okay and we had sufficient towels and toiletries for our two night stay for 4 people. Its a bit of a walk from the front desk and you share the place with residents but that's okay. (or maybe, they share the place with you!). There's a food hall thats directly underneath, its nothing fancy but adequate, not open in the evening but does left over lunch in dinner boxes for not much if you're early enough and the hotel is right at the start of Chinatown.

It was fine for our needs

We stayed at the Paramount in March 2005. In terms of location it is right in the centre of Melbourne and close to many of the attractions, as well as shops etc. But the apartments really need to be renovated - most obviously the carpets which were worn and pretty dirty. There were several small items that we had to call maintenance for to have fixed (including a broken window latch). Perhaps the worst problem was the smell. Because the hotel is located adjacent to many restaurants and Chinatown, opening a window day or night brought in a pungent mixture of cooking smells, even though we were pretty high up. The layout of the hotel is quite bizarre and involves taking a lengthy trek using two elevators and passing through a set of security doors just to get from the rooms to the reception or the car park. The continental breakfast is provided by a cafe located in the adjacent foodcourt and is very good.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom unit for two ninghts. (fri and sat).
The rooms are relatively clean and comfortable. However, we could not sleep at all for two nights because of the noises from the surrounding pubs even though we were staying on 10th floor. The reception did not try to do anything (e.g. call police) despite several complaints from guests.

The location was fantastic. All within walking distance to many city attractions.

Yes, the location is fantastic for it's proximity to theaters, Chinatown and even Lygon St but the distinct insensitivity towards guest requirements is astonishing in it's shameless disregard for clients paying 5 star prices for grotty stained carpet, smelly rooms which have not been updated for many years.

Points to note: We asked for a foldaway bed in our apartment so my wife could move to the lounge when I snored during the night, we were quoted $55.00 per night for the bed, no thanks! We requested a late check out owing to our late departure flight @ 5.30, we were told 11.00am would be the latest otherwise a full day charge would apply. This, after a 4 night stay @ $385.00 per night and normal checkout time being 10.00am! A one hour extension classed as a late check out! Thank you very much for your business Mr & Mrs tourist! The TV was at least 15 years old, the showers have flow controllers on them to the point where a trickle is the best that can be achieved, the windows don't close properly to keep the traffic noise out, I could go on but I think enough said! One of the poorest attitudes from a hospitality business I have seen anywhere in the world, these people are in the wrong business and should re-consider the used car sales business more appropriate to their business model! Very cheap purveyors of inflated prices.

5 star apartment experience in the city. These apartments are always spotless, spacious and the luxury of a bath tub, which we appreciate after walking our legs off... Blackout blinds keep out heat as well as light.
Staff are knowledgeable and friendly beyond belief.
We stay here three or four times a year after each visit we look forward to our next visit.

I unfortunately had to stay here recently on a business trip. Upon arriving at the hotel, I felt incredibly unwelcome by the check-in staff. They did not advise me of anything relating to the stay. I got to the room and it was absolutely filthy. Like it hadn't been cleaned for 10 years. The whole building is old and horrible and it's a pain to get to the rooms. The room was noisy. In the morning I was slightly late checking out, despite not being advised of a check out time. Twice, hotel staff walked straight into my room, ignoring the do-not-disturb sign on the door. I was also verbally abused and threatened by a member of the staff for being slightly late checking out. He was a large, angry man and made me feel so uncomfortable I was close to calling the police as I was afraid of being physically hurt. Upon checkout, the staff were also incredibly rude and unreasonable. After explaining the situation, they still continued to charge my company extra money for the late checkout. I have no idea how an establishment with such poor customer service can stay in business and I certainly would never stay here again, or recommend ANYONE stays here.

Booked 3 suites for my staff members who needed to attend a function in Melbourne. Not only were we all placed on separate floors, but the security keys only allow you to go to your own floor, so trying to meet up with colleagues was very difficult.
In the morning there was not water from 6.30am to 8.30am. We tried to ring reception at least three times with no answer. When they finally answered they said water would be back on in 10 minutes. One hour later there is still no water, we are offered a bucket of water, and then that offer is taken back when we accept!! ("sorry, we have no staff available")
Really really bad service. No offer of compensation (we were all late for our business meeting). We were told that there was an emergency out of their control. I cannot imagine why they would not bring in more staff to deal with this, surely we weren't the only people wanting a bit of service? The worst thing was not being able to contact reception for 1/2 hour. That is just so bad. So, never again. It is a cheap and very nasty place.

Stayed in a two bedroom apartment with the family on a Friday and Saturday night. Check in and check out was easy and staff were friendly and efficient. Stayed on the 13th floor which eliminated a lot of street noise however, could hear the base from the music coming from a nightclub nearby and could occasionally hear people yelling in the street. Great view especially at night. Pool was great. Apartment would have been great except it was dirty. Upon arrival there were crumbs on the couch, food stains on the carpet, hairs on the toilet, marks on the bed sheets, and what appeared to be blood splatter down the wall next to the washing machine. Next time I stay in Melbourne I'll be happy to pay a bit more for somewhere cleaner.

Our family of six stayed at the Paramount Serviced apartments in Melbourne last week. We had a three bedroom apartment. These apartments are huge and in a fantastic location.

The location and size however were not enough to overcome the lack of cleaning and the sour staff attitude.

The apartment was really dirty and in particular the bathrooms and the kitchen were grubby. The furniture was stained and dirty. It is a real shame as the apartments have the potential to be a perfect family base in Melbourne. The apartments arent cheap and the lack of cleanliness really put us off.

The staff culture was really unhelpful and this combined with how dirty the apartment was mean it is probably best to avoid.

A shame because if they got their act together this would be a superb property for families.

My family and I stayed in this 2 bedroom serviced apartment. The apartment had a basic, no frills look but was adequate. The kitchen was equipped with a dishwasher, dishes, glasses, pots and pans but it was best suited to preparing cereal and toast. The 1st bedroom had a double bed, closet and small window. The second bedroom had 2 twin beds. There was 1 bathroom that had a tub/shower combination, small sink, toilet and washer and dryer. The living room was spacious and had a sofa and loveseat along with a small TV. The furnishings were a bit shabby. The large balcony overlooked the street. Housekeeping came to service the apartment late in the day and didn't seem to do much beside make the beds and leave towels. Internet access was impossible. No matter how we tried we could not get a connection.

The pool was billed as heated but the water was very cold. The spa never seemed to warm up. Additionally, the pool and spa were not as clean as they could have been. The sauna was small but hot.

The apartments were located adjacent to a small mall so there was limited shopping and fast food close by. The main shopping area and tram stops were a block away. There was an expensive mini mart across the street but there was no real supermarket within walking distance.

Check-in time of 3pm is enforced. In fact we arrived at 3, but our room wasn't ready until 3:30pm.
