The Grand Hyatt Melbourne enjoys a central location that consistently receives accolades for its convenience to local hotspots. While praised for its luxurious amenities, including a top-notch gym and breakfast buffet, opinions on the hotel's value and service are mixed; some guests appreciate the reasonable pricing while others point out hidden costs and variable service quality.
Room opinions are polarized with praise for spaciousness and views, yet critiques over noise and datedness. The atmosphere is seen as a blend of modernity and areas in need of an update, and while cleanliness is generally celebrated, there are exceptions.

We've always wanted to stay at The Grand Hyatt and were able to splurge on this trip thanks to a great room rate we sourced earlier this year. The room was spacious and we found the beds super comfortable. We were seeing a show at The Regent theatre and dining around the corner at Chin Chin so the location of the hotel was a winner for us. Lune Croissanterie is across the road. They were very accommodating with an earlier check in so we could shower before the matinee.

I stayed at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne in December 2024 and had an amazing experience. The central location made it easy to explore the city, and the luxurious rooms were spotless and offered incredible city views. The staff provided exceptional service, always warm and attentive, ensuring all my needs were met. The breakfast buffet was a highlight, offering a wide variety of fresh and delicious options. The hotel’s facilities, including the gym and spa, were world-class, adding to the luxurious experience. From check-in to check-out, everything was flawless. Highly recommend!

We stayed here in November to attend the Melbourne Cup - as it was a special trip we booked into a Grand Suite King Room and although it was a nice big room it was a bit bland and functional with some dull brown furniture - bathroom was nice and everywhere was clean. Plenty of fresh free water supplied which was good. We had breakfast included and took it in Collins Kitchen which was quite varied but to be honest the best bit about the stay was the access to the lounge. - snacks available all day and drinks for a couple of hours in the evening so perfect for a pre dinner drink - some food was also on offer but 3 nights it was sushi / Asian based which isn’t our thing so a little disappointing - it really should be something more widely eaten as sushi is an acquired taste - have one dish perhaps if you have to and something more standard as well. All the staff in the lounge were lovely. - shout outs to Yuly, Luxmi and a lovely Argentinian lady whose name I sadly didnt get ( she gave us some good recommendations for dinner ) All the guys on the door / concierge area were lovely and friendly. Would stay again as long as we can get the lounge access

Dear footballhells, Thank you so much for a great review. When a guest takes the time to write such positive comments, it makes the team want to work even harder to meet guest expectations, and we will be sure to share your comments with our colleagues. We appreciate your feedback regarding the canape offering and will review this with our culinary team as we constantly look to curate our offering to improve and accommodate all our guests. We all look forward to welcoming you back in the not-too-distant future.

Horrible experience—this place only has "Grand" in the name. Starting with the service, I was shocked that even a simple request couldn’t be accommodated. How can this possibly be on the same level as other Grand Hyatts, like Kuwait, where refined taste and exceptional service are the norm? Grand Hyatt Melbourne is overcharging Australians and businesses for an experience that falls far short of its price point. There’s not even a proper workspace for laptops, let alone a business center. This hotel could barely pass as a Hyatt Centric, mainly due to its CBD location, but calling it "Grand" is a real stretch. Saying the hotel is “tired” would be generous; the tacky 1990s decor and non-functional rooms make it feel outdated and cheap. The company is verging on deceptive practices by charging luxury rates for a subpar experience. Absolutely nothing is grand here—except the nightly rate.

It is a very disappointing hotel considering it is a 5-star hotel. Upon checking in and going to our room, the doorway was blocked by two guest services trolleys without any housekeeping staff in sight. The hotel's décor shows its age, and the rooms are ready for refurbishment. Our first night was okay, but then my daughter was woken by the housekeeping staff at 9.30 am to clean the room. She made the mistake of asking them to return at noon when we would be out. Sadly, they did not return all day, when we arrived back to the room at 10 pm the beds were unmade, the bathroom was not clean, and our dirty dishes and rubbish had not been cleaned. When I approached the front desk to ask for the room to be refreshed whilst we had supper, I was told they would organize it. After returning to the room approximately 1 hour later someone had placed clean towels and 2 rolls of toilet paper in the bathroom. No one had bothered to take the rubbish or make the beds. In addition to the extremely poor housekeeping, we found food from another guest in the fridge. The overall experience was extremely disappointing. I would not recommend staying there, as Melbourne has many better 5-star hotels.

Against friends' strong recommendation to stay at the new Ritz Carlton Melbourne, I have no regret in staying in their deluxe Room with nice city view as it was a good stay as the location is very accessible to tram stations, rail stations and the nearby shopping areas with many restaurants. I'm also very pleased with their Housekeeping for their daily room making up services in meticulous manner.
The only disappointment was the variety of the breakfast buffet. Very ordinary and the variety is very limited though I'm already mentally prepared for it before arrival. Considering a considerable number of guests from Asia, the buffet did not cater much to this group of guests. One strange observation was that white steamed rice was offered but there are no other cooked dishes to go with it, bizzare indeed. I would strongly recommend that they should minimally add a noodle item to the spread. On positive side, the service team is friendly and prompt.
Generally, I had a good stay.

I stayed during the AO so the price was inflated (which was understandable) but I would say otherwise a property that is priced sensibly and excellent value for money.
It is the ideal location to explore and I chose a River View room which overlooked Melbourne Park and the MCG. It was an incredible view and you could see the rowers on the Yarra and a view of the sunset. Hard pressed to find a view that would better it.
The room was large, clean and very functional. The bathroom was excellent , even if a little dated, that had a large bath-tub. All linens and towels were spotless. It has to be said that the property could do with a renovation and perhaps a different colour scheme. The King bed was two singles pushed together which is fine by me if the two beds are the same height, but It didn't detract from excellent sleep in comfort. Slight issue with being able to hear the ' plumbing ' in adjacent rooms, but it didn't serve as a hindrance to what was an enjoyable stay.
The In-Room dining was superb ; wonderful choices and good sized portions served punctually. Reasonable rates too. Breakfast was good, very calm and peaceful in a large room.
What stood out for me most of all was the wonderful service that I received from all members of staff. All of them are an absolute credit to Hyatt and the reason above everything else that I would return.

We initially booked for one night but enjoyed our stay so much that we extended it for a second night. Our family, consisting of three adults, a toddler, and a young baby, had a room on level 26 with a terrific city view. The rooms were a decent size, and we particularly liked the little couch section, which allowed us to admire the view. The beds and pillows were very comfortable.
Yes, the rooms are a bit dated, but it wasn't a significant issue for us. We loved the grandeur and genuine 5-star feel of the hotel. We recently stayed at another hotel (W Melbourne), and while it was new and shiny, the service there couldn't compete with the exceptional level of service at the Grand Hyatt. Plus, the room price was very reasonable for such a high-quality hotel. We appreciated having two interconnecting rooms, which were perfect for our stay with my mum in the adjoining room. It was my mum's special birthday, and she received a card and a little chocolate gift, which was very kind and much appreciated. We requested a late check-out twice, and it was kindly arranged for us.
Breakfast was great, with lots of options, especially for our family where one is vegetarian, and three people don't eat pork. Plus, the service was outstanding. A big shout-out to Zoe, who made us feel very welcomed and looked after us well. It was a much better experience than at our other recent stay at W Melbourne. Another plus was the changing menu from Saturday morning to Sunday morning. The big ceilings made the space feel lush. Despite a busy Sunday, the staff dealt with it professionally, and there was always a sense of calm. We loved the smoothie and fresh juice section and the overall service of every staff member.
The swimming pool was okay but could use an update, as the tiles looked a bit cracked and old. The hotel is also very well located in the CBD. Parking at $90 was a bit expensive, so we opted to park the car in a nearby Wilson's car park for the weekend instead.
Overall, our experience was very satisfying, and we will definitely stay again.

My kids and I had a fabulous 3 nights at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne. Firstly the location, which is in what I feel is the best part of Melbourne. An easy walk to the mall, Federation square and Flinders street train station and close to some fabulous restaurants. We were early for check in but there was a room available to us which was a pleasant surprise. The beds are so comfortable, even the roll away my youngest slept on. Very quiet air con and no fridge buzzing noise made for a great nights sleep. The buffet breakfast was excellent, with what I feel is one of the most extensive range of options I’ve seen. We got lucky as was included in our room cost, making our stay such great value for money. The staff could not be faulted, with everyone we encountered friendly and helpful. Would most definitely love to stay here again.

We have just had another amazing stay at the Grand Hyatt. It is definitely the best hotel in Melbourne and the buffet breakfast can’t be beat. The central location is perfect for being able to walk around the city, or get on a tram to explore further out. The staff provided amazing service, always warm and attentive, ensuring all our needs were met. We choose rooms with river view which overlooks the Yarra, MCG, Rod Laver and Melbourne Park. We highly recommend having a chat with Jimmy he is extremely knowledgeable and always brings a smile to everyone’s face We can’t wait to come back for our next visit.
