This new hotel had been open for barely 8 weeks when I arrived. Some allowance is appropriate to permit a settling in. There are however many areas of detail where improvement is badly needed.
It is widely understood that the shortage of available staff is a major problem for operators, nowhere more so than in housekeeping. On arrival I was advised that daily housekeeping would only be carried out on request. When requested the service provided fell short of expectations. On entering my allocated room the lights would not work. Reception had to come and find the master switch which housekeeping were blamed with turning off. After travelling all day one of the first things a guest wants on arrival is a tea or coffee. Some items were not present making this comfort not possible.
Although housekeeping are responsible for these areas it is the responsibility of management to see that they are correctly completed. Management is at overall fault in these areas.
The public areas in corridors etc appeared as though the carpets had not been vacuumed for some weeks.
The rooms are large enough and adequately furnished. The breakfast has a limited menu but is adequate.
Reception were welcoming and friendly. The invoice issued on departure detailed "GST 10% $0 and VAT 5% with the correct 10% GST.
There appears to be a need for enhanced staff training in just about every area of this hotel's operation.
Achievement of Holiday Inn standards is some distance away.

Great location near southern cross station and marvel stadium. Clean and modern basic room for a good short stay in Melbourne. All the breakfast dishes were full at 8.30am on Saturday morning and were frequently topped up. Breakfast staff were attentive. Parking is available at a cost of $35 per night and is located under the hotel with the entrance located on the one way street behind. Ask for a parking ticket for unlimited entry/exit over the 24hour period. If the roller door is down, just press the intercom button on the wall and scan your ticket to open the boom gate. Impressed overall by the hotel for the budget price.

Stayed here over the weekend (Friday-Sunday), checked in around 2:30pm and my booked Queen room was ready however as a Platinum Elite I was offered a King room on the top floor (level 31) by Gus which I gladly took. FYI, reception is on level 2 and only accessible via the lifts at the back of the ground floor.

The room was good for a solo traveller, would be passable for two people for a short period, mainly because of the bathroom/shower layout. The hotel itself is nice and new.

The complimentary breakfast of bacon/eggs/hash browns/pastries was good. There was also free wifi.

Location was good, very close to Spencer St Station and Marvel Stadium and close to Spencer, Bourke and Collins Street trams.

I haven’t checked out yet until tomorrow but I just can’t wait to express my pleasant surprise. This is the third hotel we checked in during the week due to travelling needs. We chose this hotel as we need to leave at 0730 in the morning for the train.
Being used to five stars n big rooms we were a bit apprehensive. However, as we walked into the room, compact as it is, it has everything. You can tell every attention was given to detail, a space saving corner couch, a small round table with a big lamp above, walls have hooks for you to hang things, well illuminated mirror in bathroom, the wide open door which we though could hv been a sliding door to save room can be used as a partition in the shower recess. An ironing board is there. Two bins in room, one for recycle one for general use. Let’s hope we are not pre-emoting our assessment too soon but we know we right.

The Holiday Inn Express Little Collins was perfect for needing to be near Southern Cross Station, a quick and easy one block walk. Convenient for taking the SkyBus from the airport, then leaving Melbourne on The Overland train.

I am not a wheelchair user, but have neurological problems and a knee injury and I appreciated being able to book a handicapped accessible room straight on the website and see/read that the room has a roll-in shower. (Two non-IHG hotels I booked in other cities accessible room descriptions were very vague about their accessibility features.)

The room was clean and comfortable, especially the bed - neither too soft or too hard. The view of the city from the 7th floor was spectacular.

I missed breakfast the first morning, waking too late, and the second morning, I only had time for a few pieces of bacon and a couple of hash brown potato triangles, and took coffee to go in my thermal mug before rushing to catch the train.

Very nice hotel. Clean rooms, clean areas. Sanitizer in many places in common areas. Take your own pillow. Really nice check in foyer, was wowed by this. Lady on reception that welcomed us was informative and polite.
We paid the extra money for breakfast, but the eggs, bacon and beans (good flavour, I liked the added herbs) were all cold, or lukewarm at best. I advised the chef of this and he was happy to oblige, but I noticed he was able to grab the Bain Marie with his hands (no towel) to take it to the kitchen to reheat (I assume). I am a chef myself and have done food safety supervisor certificates. Coffee was nice.
Would be happy to come back, but will not be staying for breakfast. All staff were very polite and professional.

Great value hotel - less than 5 minutes walk to SCS and very convenient to Spencer street side of the city.

Fresh and contemporary rooms with a nice logical layout.

Breakfast included in the morning is a nice value add and lots of space to sit down in the reception area.

Would definitely stay again!

We are staying over the weekend of the Australian Formula 1 weekend. Room prices are inflated and as a result, we are paying $500 a night for a sub par hotel.

Upon checking in, we were given a room with two single beds despite booking a double. Reception rectified but indicated it was our fault as we didn't indicate our preference on our booking. Having booked through booking.com, I referred to my confirmation which clearly indicated a double room with one double bed had been booked.

We ordered 'in room dining' on our first evening. This was picked up from reception, not delivered to the room. The food was average, again at overly inflated prices. We left the remains of our dining in our room when we left the next day expecting housekeeping to remove when they serviced the room.

We returned to our half serviced room later that day. Our bed left as we had left it that morning, our coffee cups and spoons were left as we left them, and the in room dining was left as we had left it. Towels had been replaced, but that was it. We left it assuming it would be addressed the following day.

Upon returning today, the remenants of our in room dining were still in our room. Along with wine glasses we had requested from reception the night before. Thankfully this time, an attempt had been made to make the bed and replace our used coffee cups. I took the items to reception to clarify whether housekeeping should be removing these items. After a couple of attempts to get an answer, I was informed it was something that housekeeping should attend to. A report was made to housekeeping manager.

I'd forgive a one off, but two days in a row is unacceptable.

First time at this hotel. Located near Southern Cross station. New, clean and modern. Came in 9:30am and was able to check in early. Has most of the facilities. If need toothbrushes and toothpaste just call reception. Free breakfast. Not many varieties but still ok. Affordable stay. Would recommend and stay again at this hotel.

Hotel is 5-10 minutes walk from Southern Cross Station. Room is clean and brand new. I travelled with my 2 young kids and checked in at 10pm. Feeling tired after a long day of flight, I arrived to a small check in counter beside a restaurant and bar with staff who did not even look at me or acknowledged my presence. There was 2 staff, one senior and another seemingly new staff checking in another traveller but took a really long time. I had to approach the new staff and asked if I can check in and she said yes. I would have appreciated if there was more initiative taken especially when I was checking in with 2 young kids who was hungry and tired at that late hour. My kids ate by the sofa area and kept coming to me to ask why I needed to queue so long. The new staff informed me that there would be a $50AUD incidental so I just took any credit card to do the pre auth but I was surprised when a $400+ charge caught my eye from the swipe machine. After clarifying, I was told the room wasn’t paid but when I booked the room online at the full prepayment rate, I thought I had paid fully based on the T&Cs stated. My husband and I then had to check the credit card statement and request to offer another card for payment instead which during that whole episode, my 3 yr old son fell from the sofa, landed on his face and suffered a bruise on his eye and cheekbone on his first day of our holiday. No staff came over to show concern. We are extremely upset to have paid $392AUD a night for such slow and poor ‘express’ IHG service.
