Mixed feelings at this hotel. For the price, somethings were definitely missing from a “premium hotel”. The room was neat and clean, of average size. Things expected like toothbrushes and toiletry amenities were not provided, neither were slippers.
Check in was smooth and we were able to check in slightly early. The rooms are quite noisy (we were in a room facing Spencer street), although a very convenient location to catch a tram/ train for actives.

The pool was warm and the spa excellent, if you have smaller kids, the max pool depth is 1.2m which we enjoyed, older kids may not enjoy this as much.

Chocolate hour was a great disappointment, at 5pm 3 small plates of goodies appeared, which quickly vanished and were inadequate for the amount of guests on a school holiday Sunday. We were told it would be replenished at 5.30, in which 2 small plates and some nuts again appear and were consumed at record pace.

Free ice cream for kids under 12 is great, very limited (5) flavours available however my child found one she liked and took advantage of the unlimited ice cream.

Only my child and I stayed here and then we moved hotels as there doesn’t seem to be any room types available for families without having to purchase x2 rooms which significantly increases the cost.

Breakfast was adequate, nothing special
and the hot food was just warm rather than hot. Being a smaller hotel it was a smaller offering. Barista coffee not included, Nespresso pods were.

Hi paulinemE1764RU, Thank you for taking the time to write this detailed review of your stay at Movenpick Melbourne. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed most aspects of your stay, and appreciate the feedback in regards to areas that we can improve. Accor is working towards removing all single use plastics across all hotels globally, and at Movenpick Melbourne have started this process which does mean some of our guest amenities are changing. We feel this is going to be a much better offering and more environmentally friendly option while still ensuring we deliver on the expectations of our guests. Items like toothbrushes and shaving kits are available, but we deliver these to guests as requested. Thank you again for the feedback and we hope to be able to welcome you back again soon. Kind Regards, Cory Norris-Jones General Manager - Movenpick Melbourne

First time in this location and staying in this hotel made our vaction safe, comfortable, and relaxing.
This hotel is conveniently located right in the heart of Melbourne.
Walking distance from trams (across the street) and trains, restaurants and some of Melbourne's most iconic sites.
The staff is courteous and very helpful.
We had our room with breakfast included and the breakfast had a diverse menu which included healthy options and plenty of fruits.
The best thing is that the hotel has 2 beautiful swimming pools, one for children and another one for adults, and a sauna, conveniently located on the second floor and open from morning to evening.
I highly recommend this hotel for any stay in Melbourne without reservations

2 night stay. Rooms very small, however was moved to accessible room which provided extra space. Great location with friendly staff. Being a new hotel it's so modern it almost smells like the paint hasn't yet dried. Had issues with housekeeping not retocking coffee pods / milk and difficulty raising housekeeping / manager to resolve issue. Chocolate hour very disappointing. I'm afraid the offerings of choc brownie and opera cake slice doesn't cut it compared to international Movenpicks I have stayed at. The Chocolate Hour presently is geared to entice visitors downstairs to upsell coffees, cocktails or $20 parfaits; good for kids with free ice cream, however not for the adults :(

The reviews were excellent which persuaded me into booking this hotel for 6 nights…however have been left feeling less than impressed.

Checkin process was good, arrived at a non-peak time which was beneficial from reading other reviews. Chocolate hour is labeled as changes daily… first 2 days were identical - day 3 items changed, then it reverted back to basics.

I’d you are after a normal English breakfast tea which is generally a hotel staple….don’t expect it here!!

Room aesthetic is quite nice, however you can hear all sounds from outside - the glass needs to be much thicker to block out the outdoor sounds, you can also hear every time someone shuts a door in the corridor. For someone that has paid $1600 for nearly a weeks stay, you’d expect something a bit better than what I received.

If you forget to set your alarm, you may be lucky enough that your neighbor has thought about setting an alarm for you and you will get to hear it through the paper thin walls for 10 minutes!

The bathroom silicone has mould growing in it, along with mould growing in the exhaust vent.

From the moment you walk in to Mövenpick Hotel Melbourne you are made to feel like a VIP guest! The welcome sorbet on check in during chocolate hour was a lovely surprise!
The personalised welcome card, wine and chocolates awaiting in my deluxe room was also a beautiful touch. We dined at Miss Mi where we had the most delicious dinner from all around Asia.
What sets Mövenpick Hotel Melbourne apart is the extraordinary service from the attentive friendly staff in every area of the hotel, from the front desk to the breakfast service.
I have to mention the wonderful facilities especially the pool, stunning and incredibly clean.
I cannot wait to return for my next stay in December.
Thank you Mövenpick Melbourne

Stayed here for a weekend getaway in Melbourne

Checkin was simple. Our room was lovely, clean and spacious. Nicely decorated.

The hotel itself was nicely decorated and fresh.

The food on offer outside restaurant hours was quite limited and VERY expensive, but the flavours were beautiful. Fortunately we have an Accor card or it would have been ridiculously expensive.

Finding service was also tricky.

The chocolate hour seems very gimmicky. The man on checkin described it as all you can eat. The may be true if you were first in the line at the time it starts. We were sitting having a drink when chocolate hour started people came from nowhere and flocked to line up for free chocolate (some I don’t even think were staying at the hotel as this didn’t seem policed). We stood back as we don’t like lines and within 10 mins everything was gone but for a few scraps. Disappointing experience.

The other thing I found odd in a hotel of this standard was the cleanliness of the bathrooms. The bathrooms on the restaurant/entry level are unisex. Which is fine if the bathrooms are clean. We sat down for a drink one evening and I went to use the bathroom and both were atrociously filthy. Women don’t really want their clothes dragging in urine covered floors when going to the bathroom. Certainly not expected in a hotel of this standard.

Overall the room was great, bed comfy and a nice stay.

We stayed at the Movenpick Melbourne hotel on Spencer from March 31st through to April 8th 2022 and found the experience very pleasant and enjoyable.

Front of hotel service was fantastic. Overall we found staff to be pleasant, helpful and very friendly during our stay.

Hotel restaurant was generally nice. We ate buffet breakfast at restaurant several mornings during our stay and found service and quantity of food to be great. The only negative, for the restaurant, was the hot food storage containers lids were always open. This meant the food, was not always as hot or fresh as it could been.

The hotel is renowned for its chocolate hour which was pleasant and plentiful.

The room was generally comfortable, large and well appointed, but we found our bags stored under an open cupboard to be less than optimal for visibility and access. Servicing of the room was generally good during our stay.

Location of Movenpick Melbourne hotel on Spencer is perfect for access to the city’s trams, trains and buses.

The hotel is modern, nicely decorated clean and pleasant. We would stay in this hotel again, highly recommended.

It is a great property in terms of location and the pool - rooms are funky but have been underinvested in (aka usb power charges but with the things plugged in can’t be used - lighting is either intense or not enough).

The biggest disappointment is the service and inconsistency - on check in needed to wait while on staff member tried to deal with a number of guests and the other was only dedicating himself to one to the point of taking there bags and them to the room (no one else being offered this and the older couple in front of me needing such help). Hd tried to ring reception several times to change rooms and never got an answer so had to come back to the lobby and que

Staff at the bar basically ignore you (even when you and another couple are all they have to serve) with a preference to stock and clean vs serve.

One staff members indicates something another will contradict it and then nearly accuse you of lying.

Also they like to keep people waiting they are doing nothing and then say that will be 20 minutes …

All in all not great

Dear Roztrav, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Movenpick Melbourne, and I would like to apologize if the experience did not meet your expectations. The hospitality industry has had a challenging couple years and thankfully now things are starting to improve, but with this recovery the industry is now facing a new challenge with a staffing and skills shortage. Great location. Directly opposite Southern Cross Station, same side as the sky bus terminal. So easy to just wake up and walk over to sky bus within two minutes.

Woolworths metro in the train station or a Coles located just up the road. Loads of food options nearby. Really busy area so feels safe.

Room was really bright even with what they say is blockout blinds. The gaps on the sides allow light in.

Bathroom door needs a hook. Bathroom wall has black film on the glass that lets loads of light in. Shut the bathroom door when you sleep.

Really noisy area. Trams and roadworks. Maybe ask for a higher up floor to reduce noise or bring earplugs.

They have chocolate hour where free sweets are offered. I didn't take advantage of this because it was all communal and would have preferred individual portions of food that people haven't touched.

Liquid soap is provided in the bathroom. Thank goodness hotels are moving away from gross bras of soap.

When you get off the elevator it can be a little disorienting because the foyer is decorated with striped patterns and made me feel really dizzy.

Being almost brand new, the Hotel is clean and pleasant to stay in. We found the room spacious, the bed was really comfortable, the bathroom has plenty of room and the shower is excellent. There is some noise from trams and traffic below but it wasn't a problem for us as we are used to it. It does quieten down after midnight. There is a Nescafe machine in the room and a selection of teabags but only two of each type, so we had to order more English Breakfast from Housekeeping but this was no problem and we were given plenty more. There are large pump packs of shampoo, conditioner and hand and body wash in the bathroom which is great and yet were given two complimentary plastic bottles of water. Perhaps instead guests could be given reusable bottles as a gift and have a water cooler near the lifts on each floor. Staff are really friendly and very helpful except at the bar when I was asked if there 'was a bar menu or is it the same as the restaurant', to which I was told, 'Give or take' and he wandered off. We never did work out what that meant as we went somewhere else. The real let down was the breakfast. It's the usual basic selection which is ok, however one of the kitchen assistants kept coming out and opening the lids on all of the warm food and leaving them open, so the scrambled eggs etc were cold. Tea and coffee comes from a coffee machine that is not clear how to use it. Being a small space, it became crowded with frustrated people wanting to get a cup of something but being hindered by each person struggling to work out how to use the machine. One of the waiting staff was constantly being called upon for assistance. Meanwhile everything was running out - teabags, milk, juice etc and she was prevented by refilling them as she was needed at the coffee machine. She remained smiling and helpful even as she had to deal with the rising frustration from guests. What was worst of all and totally inexplicable is that only paper cups are provided for tea and coffee. This simply defies common sense.
We would stay again. Overall it is a lovely place to stay, especially while it still has the appeal of being new and fresh. If we ordered breakfast, then I would bring the mug from our room and extra tea bags.

Thanks BigWorldDreaming for the review! We appreciate you taking the time to let us know about your stay and some of the challenges you experienced during breakfast. I have spoken to my Food & Beverage Manager to ensure we do not use paper cup at breakfast ever again, as this is not the standard and from what I was informed was only done to ensure enough cups were available for the high numbers we had booked in for breakfast that week. There is no excuse for a poor experience or service and we will continue to work hard to ensure that all of our guests have a memorable stay. We are always looking at how we can improve and will be using your feedback to help us with this process. Thank you again for the review and we look forward to welcoming you back again soon.
