Stayed for four nights in September in a two bedroom apartment.
I think the most appealing attraction about this hotel is its great location which is central to the theatre district, shopping precincts and loads of restaurants and cafes.
Our two bedroom apartment was comfortable enough but the bedrooms were very small, such that we had to leave our open suitcases on the lounge room floor. There was a combined lounge/dining/kitchenette area that was furnished with a two seater lounge, a separate chair, a standing lamp, a return on which the flat screen TV sat, a coffee table and a dining table with four chairs. The kitchenette was compact and had a full sized fridge, a cook top, microwave, dishwasher, electric jug, toaster etc and some pots and pans. There was sufficient crockery, glass ware and cutlery although the latter was located within a pantry on the wall opposite the kitchen. It was a kitchen for preparing, at best basic, not overly ambitious, meals.
The main bedroom was quite small and had a queen sized bed (comfortable) with small bedside tables with reading lamps on them on either side of the bed. There was also a small chest of drawers in one corner with a small flat screen TV on top of it and a built in wardrobe.
The second bedroom was also very tight and contained two single beds with a small bedside table with lamp in between the two beds. There was also a built in wardrobe.
The main bathroom was very large with a walk-in shower and a vanity with plenty of room for toiletries. The main bedroom had an ensuite with the shower in the bath. It was a fairly deep bath so a reasonable step was required to exit it. Pressure in both showers was good.
WIFI was included and worked fine.
Rooms and bathroom were both fairly clean although you had to request servicing on the weekends which we didn't bother with.
On the occasion of our last visit staff shortages meant that the front desk was not staffed at various stages during the day. Thankfully this had changed and we found the staff at check-in and check-out to be friendly and helpful.

Dear Westy54, Thanks for sharing your feedback. We hope you had a great stay at Citadines. We agree, the location of the hotel is excellent bonus. I am glad you found our beds comfortable too. Please try our 2bedroom executive apartments next time which is bigger than the one you stayed. We service our rooms every day except for Sunday which is on request only. Should ever need any amenities, please do not hesitate to speak to our 24Hr Guest Service Member. I am very pleased to hear that you found our staff helpful, and you noticed great improvement from last time you stayed. The staff shortage has been an issue since covid is over and we are doing our best to train our staff on regular basis. These kinds of feedbacks are very encouraging which I will be sharing with my team. We thank you once again for your support and look forward to welcoming you back again. The hotel was right in front of the tram line which leads to / from Southern Cross Station, which was perfect. With trams in the CBD being free, this was great, but of course, walking around was easy and there are lots of food and coffee nearby.
The one bedroom unit in itself was surprisingly large and very well equipped. Although a washer wasn't included in the room, there was a common area for laundry with a washer dryer which was convenient.
Will definitely consider this again for future visits.

Stayed in a two bedroom apartment for three nights in March. This was the second occasion we had stayed here.
Apartment consisted of two small bedrooms (approximately of equal size), two bathrooms and a combined lounge/dining/kitchen.
The main bedroom had a king-sized bed (two singles pushed together and was reasonably soft) with small bedside tables either side and wall mounted reading lights. There was also a flat screen TV and a wardrobe that had a safe in it. Unfortunately there was no room to keep our two sided suitcase open so we stored it, with our clothes in it, in the lounge room.
There was a reasonably large bathroom just outside of this bedroom with a large vanity (good to store toiletries), a toilet and a bath with the shower in it - pressure was good.
The second bedroom also had a king sized bed (which we had requested) and again was two singles pushed together. There was a bed side table on either side with wall mounted reading lights and a wardrobe.
The main bathroom was quite large with a good sized vanity and a walk-in shower.
The combined lounge/dining/kitchen was furnished with a 2/3 seater lounge, stand alone lamp, a chair, small coffee table and a flat screen TV that sat on a return. The dining area had a table with four chairs and a lamp. The kitchen had a breakfast bar, sink, full sized fridge, dishwasher, toaster, microwave, a hotplate, kettle and enough glasses, plates and cutlery for four people. There was however a dearth of cooking pots/pans/utensils etc if you had been planning to cook.
The apartment was very clean and, contrary to what we had been told when we checked in, the apartment was serviced daily.
Staff at checkin and checkout were pleasant enough though were often not in sight. As a Covid precaution the exterior doors are locked and you need to buzz reception to answer when first you arrive. After that your room keycard operates the external doors also. We we first arrived we waited outside about 4/5 minutes buzzing regularly until someone eventually let us in.
The greatest advantage of this hotel is its central location on Bourke Street in between Russell and Exhibition Streets. It is a short walk to the shops, theatres etc. and there is a major tram stop just outside.

Dear westy54, Thank you for very fair and thorough review of your stay with us at Citadines on Bourke Melbourne. It's great to see that you enjoyed your time with us and we greatly appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts on TripAdvisor. I'm pleased to see that you were comfortable during your stay and I entirely agree that we are well placed for our guests to make the most of the city. Thankfully we are beginning to see the city coming back to life after some lonely months for those of us who experienced the worst of the lock down. westy54, in fact a couple comments you mentioned in your review relate directly to the effect of the past twelve months in the city. We were fortunate to be able to remain open through 2020 however we, like most hospitality businesses, lost the majority of our staff. Locked doors, vacant desks and delayed responses are a regrettable effect of our staff working alone at times, until we can rebuild our team. My apologies for any inconvenience you faced because of this. Once again, thank you for sharing your thoughts on TripAdvisor and for choosing to stay at Citadines. We look forward to hopefully seeing you again very soon. Kind regards Mark Hibberd Assistant Residence Manager

We have stayed at Citadines on six previous occasions as the location is good and the one and two bedroom apartments we have had previously, whilst on the small side, have been comfortable.
On this occasion we had a deluxe studio on one of the upper floors. Whoever designed this apartment, that had the washbasin located outside the bathroom and in the combined living room/bedroom/kitchen, needs to go back to designer play school. Or made to live in this apartment for a year and see how functional, rather dysfunctional, it is.
It is virtually impossible to remain asleep if someone needs to get up during the night or in the early morning to go to the bathroom and then has to go outside of the bathroom to wash their hands. What a dumb design!
Then there was the furniture or should I say lack of it. Only one tiny bedside stand. Unlucky those people sleeping on the other side of the bed. And what's the point of having a kitchenette where you can prepare meals if you wish (although it would be difficult given the lack of pots, pans and cooking utensils) when the only table to dine at is a small desk with ONE chair!! You could sit on the two seater lounge and either hold your plate or balance it on your lap or try to eat off the coffee table. But really, how much does an extra chair cost?
On the positive side the king sized bed was comfortable and there were plenty of power points. There was also a flat screen TV that was mounted on a sort of low level bookcase.
The bathroom was tiny with just room for a walk-in shower (pressure was good) and the toilet.
The kitchen was equipped with a bar fridge, dishwasher, microwave, cooktop, kettle, toaster and sufficient crockery, cups, glasses and utensils for two people. What it was light on was pots and pans and cooking utensils. This didn't worry us as we only planned to have breakfast in the apartment but may impact others who plan to self cater more. There was tea and coffee as well as washing up/dishwasher liquid.
Wifi was included and worked fine. There was also a safe.
Apartment was fairly clean and was partially serviced (clean towels, bins emptied) after the first night of our stay.
The best thing about this Aparthotel is its location. There is a tram stop almost directly outside and it is close to a myriad of cafes, restaurants, shops and theatres.
Staff at check-in and check-out were friendly and helpful.

Dear westy54, Thanks for staying with us over the years and we greatly appreciate your support of Citadines on Bourke Melbourne. However I must confess that it's disappointing to hear that you were dissatisfied with your apartment during this most recent visit. There is not doubt that the design of the bathrooms in our studio apartments is a little unusual, with the vanity being outside the bathroom itself as you mention. While I see your point regarding being disturbed in the night or morning by someone washing their hands, there are some benefits to the design. For example, it does allow one person to use the vanity while another is in the bathroom itself, which can be an advantage in many situations. I'm sorry to hear that you do not appear to have located the saucepans and frying pan that are in all of our apartments, and I hope that this wasn't inconvenient for you. westy54, it would seem apparent that the design of our studio apartments is not to your taste and we do understand that this can sometimes be the case. Thankfully you have experienced the more conventional layout of our two-bedroom apartments and you'll be pleased to know that we also have one bedroom apartments that too have the more traditional bathroom design. Thank you for staying with us once again at Citadines on Bourke Melbourne and i do hope that we can look forward to welcoming you back at some point in the future, perhaps just not in a Studio. Worst hotel experience ever! I stay interstate regularly through all the major hotel chains. This time I thought I would try a 4.5 star 1 bedroom apartment. Apartment was well kept with basic amenities. However that’s where the positives end…
This was not a “serviced apartment” as stated, was there for 4 nights and not once did they service the apartment, change bed sheets, or vacuum or replace towels!
When I called to ask about the towels, apparently they were having supply issues. Then when I asked about the cleaning, they would put me on a priority list. After 2 days of no new towels, hand towels or bed sheets replaced, I asked for a vacuum cleaner so I could atleast clean myself. Nothing happened. I emailed asking for a refund of my next night so I could go to another hotel, still waiting on a reply.
To ask 2 guests to reuse the same 2 towels for 4 nights and 5 days, is absolutely ridiculous. I can live with the same bed sheets, but no room cleaning, we had to empty out our own bins. Disgraceful service with no apology from management. Do not ever stay here.

Dear Alex A, Thank you for sharing your feedback on TripAdvisor and I do apologize for the lapses in our service that you encountered. While many of the issues you raise are outside our control , clearly there were some lapses in our communication and the provision of basic services was lacking and we deeply regret any inconvenience that this caused you. Alex A. I would like to point out to you and all our guests that the limitations in our ability to provide full service is not a choice we have made or a policy we are intending to continue. We are not limiting towels to our guests because we want to. While for many industries life has returned almost to normal, this is far from the case for services industries across the country. We are all facing many well documented issues that we are doing our utmost to overcome and their is no hiding form the fact that it is far from business as usual just yet. we have no choice but to ask for our guest's patience and understanding during difficult circumstances. All the same, there were areas of our service that were below par during your stay and that is unacceptable. Guests should not have to empty their own bins or do their own vacuuming so I can only apologise for these lapses in our service. I am truly sorry that you felt this was your worst hotel experience ever. I can only assure you that we at Citadines on Bourke are capable of providing exceptional service and will do so again. I hope you will be willing to offer us an opportunity to deonstrate to you at some point. Kind regards Mark Hibberd Assistant Residence Manager

As a frequent traveler, I was particularly disappointed with my recent stay at this hotel, which fell short of servicing international guests. Despite its seemingly high nine-point rating, the lack of essential amenities like USB ports in rooms and common areas was a clear indication that it did not deserve such acclaim. Throughout my two-day stay, I encountered numerous inconveniences. The construction noise, right in front of my window, disrupted my sleep and made it difficult to rest. Additionally, I faced a dirty carpet that left my socks soiled, a noisy heating system, and a shower arrangement that posed safety concerns, particularly for elderly individuals with balance issues. The outdated TV, uncomfortable couch and bed, and hard pillows further contributed to my discomfort. Moreover, the long waits for elevators due to staff usage and the lack of attentiveness from the evening staff reflected a significant gap in service quality. Overall, this hotel failed to live up to its nine-point rating and did not meet the expectations of a satisfactory stay for international travelers.

Dear Soul55, Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback on your recent stay at Citadines. Please accept my sincere apologies for all the inconvenience you have faced. I can completely understand your frustration for not having a USB port in the rooms and common areas, however, for guest convenience we do provide adaptors at the desk. In regards to the construction noise from the adjacent building, unfortunately, this is something beyond our control which is why we do our best to allocate rooms away from the construction site as much as possible. The issue of a long wait for life was due to one of our lift being placed out of order due to urgent maintenance work being carried out which may have led to a long wait during your stay, however, you'll be pleased to hear it’s all back to service now. Should you ever encounter an issue of a similar nature in the future, please do not hesitate to speak to a 24-hour guest service member, they will do their best to accommodate your request. Thanks again for sharing your concerns. We hope you will afford us another experience to welcome you back and bestow upon you the high level of service we are known for. Would rate higher but I’ve been here 3 days and each day I’ve had to contact reception with an issue. First, we were presented with a cheese plate as part of our package. Cheese plate was reasonable but we weren’t given any crackers to eat the cheese with. When I called down to reception, all I got was ‘sorry’, but no crackers. The cheese is still in the fridge. Secondly, I’m here for a seven day stay. Out all day on Sunday, on my return find my room has not been serviced. When I spoke to reception, I got ‘oh sorry’, you have to request housekeeping on Sunday if you want this service. This should have been mentioned to me when I checked in on Thursday. Then today, I had the ‘Do not disturb’ sign up. I get a knock on the door saying I should have checked out by now! I have another 3 days! Again, I rang reception and ‘oh sorry’. Oh sorry is not enough! This made me feel embarrassed. I love the room and the location. You need to update information around the building such as: there is a sign to the restaurant but there isn’t a restaurant. Information in room, says you have room service from 5pm but this doesn’t exist.

Hi 458olympial. Thanks for sharing your feedback on TripAdvisor and it's quite clear to see that we have failed to provide you with the level of service that you deserve as our valued guests. The issues that you mention are all quite valid and easily overcome so I do understand your frustration and disappointment. 458olympial, as you can imagine, post covid has been a rebuilding time for hospitality businesses across the country and we at Citadines on Bourke are no different. The majority of our team have been with us no more than a matter of months, and while we are pleased with the efforts and progress, there is a great deal to learn or someone new to the hotel environment. I do not ask you, or any other guests, to excuse poor service, but rather to understand that we are still learning and can, and will, do better in the future. I entirely agree that "of sorry" is not an appropriate response to the matters that you raised and your feedback will help me demonstrate that to all of our team. We at Citadines on Bourke Melbourne do thank you for staying with us and providing your feedback. I do apologise once again for the lapses in our service that you encountered and I can only hope that you will offer us an opportunity to prove ourselves in the future. Apartment was nice, great location very central to all the shows of the Melbourne comedy fest. Free tram zone tram stop right out side was verry handy. Room was well thought out, but has no power plugs on one side. The Apartment looked out directly in to 2x construction sites, which start work at 640 am each morning with various buzzers and construction noises. The temporary lift to the tower building next door was just outside the windows so can wave to construction workers. The front desk and house keeping seem to not communicate with each other. On arrival we were told house keeping was even second day. Ok that's cool... but checking in on a Friday so the 2nd day was Sunday... no house keeping on Sunday (not told till after). Monday was 3rd day so no house keeping odd day of stay?. House keeping came on Tuesday (4th day) after we called and asked. Again though house keeping would make up room on Thursday (6th day) but no. Friday house keeping dropped of new towels when called and asked.

Firstly, i really don't like doing negative reviews but felt that this feedback is really important and so simple to accomodate. That way your future guests will not feel disappointed like we were. We stayed at Citadines for a few days and were pretty disappointed overall. Our expectations were not high and we did not expect 5 star treatment, however, we did expect our room to be cleaned each day and towels, soap and toilet paper to be replaced. We had to go to reception each day and ask for our room to be serviced. On some days, we had to ask 3 times with the guy on reception showing frustration at us. I understand at weekends that you are short staffed and that rooms being serviced are by the guests having to request. At least inform the guests that this is the case. Sorry but in this day and age, basic room service should be a given from a hotel that rates itself as highly as you do. The Citadines is a hotel not a motel. On the plus side the facilities such as gym and pool were excellent (and a great source of towels for our room). Reception staff were mostly helpful (especially the ladies).

Dear FS2704, I do apologise most sincerely for the lapses in our service that you encountered during your recent stay. I can completely understand your frustration at this situation but I can assure both yourself and other guests that they can expect, and should, receive better service from us that that which you have outlined. FS2704, while our staffing levels have improved of late from the drastic shortages of earlier this year, our teams are now young and inexperienced and, of course, mistakes and lapses are made in such conditions. We are working hard on training and development to ensure our levels of service return to the high standards that our guests could expect from Citadines in the past. I am confident that our guests will notice the improvement in the future. We do thank you for staying with us and once again my apologies that your stay was not the flawless and perfect experience that it should of been. It was supposed to be a weekend of triple celebration but all these were not acknowledged. I added these info while booking online. I mentioned this to the front office while checking in so at least one of the 2 rooms i booked would have a lovely message or token but nothing was done or said.
Our room had 2 single beds, after we requested during online booking for a king bed. I understand it can get busy, so we were happy to wait for this to be arranged. I had to call their trunk line twice to remind them (the phone in our room was not working). Each time no one knew what I needed so I repeated it again.
We paid to bring our pet and they advertised in the Hound package that toys and items will be provided for the dog. We requested these twice as well, and each time they looked confused. When it arrived the blanket had dog hairs like they have not been washed and the parrot toy had a huge hole that would be a chocking hazard especially for small dogs. We did not use any of these items.
The kids' room had the water cistern turned off - we worked it out when it won't flush after use.
Our room had stained toilet and the toilet paper holder looked like it needed a good dusting off..
Overall an experience we did not expect from Citadines. We have stayed here before and loved it each time. What would have been a lovely family weekend of celebration was marked by not so good things during our stay.

Dear mcb_palafox, There is little doubt that your recent stay with us at Citadines on Bourke Melbourne was not the enjoyable and satisfying experience that it should have been and I do sincerely apologise for that fact. We did let you down with our service and attention to detail and that is as disappointing to us as it is to yourself. Our aim is to ensure that each and every guest's stay meets or exceeds their expectations and clearly that was not the case for you and your family. Unfortunately the root cause of the entire situation was the fact that our team overlooked the fact that your reservation was for a Happy Hounds package. This was a careless error that should not have occurred and in rectifying it, we compounded the issues by failing to set up the apartment as requested and not providing all elements that the package required. I can only apologise for this and assure you that this will be a lesson learned for our teams. The truth is that while our teams is not yet at full strength, it is also less experienced than pre-covid and we are still working tirelessly to ensure that our service is of the same level as guests remember from the past. I can only assure you that errors such as you experienced are not due to a lack of care or effort by us and our goals are still to ensure every guest leaves Citadines having had the perfect experince that they were expecting. We are not there yet but we are doing everything possible to reach that goal. mcb_palafox, I do apologise again for the issues that you encountered during your stay and please do not hesitate to contact me personally at the property should you be willing to offer us an opportunity ti redeem ourselves in the future. Probably we didn’t use the parking but I’m sure the hotel staff would be more than helpful or try things like “parkhound” there are lots of parking alternatives around the hotel.
The international 5 star hotels i have stayed in all have feedback forms in the room and are always wanting to get feedback to improve further. Well the attitude of this hotel is obvious and judging from management very negative and shockingly poor response to the negative reviews on here, there is no point in providing feedback.
