My friend and I were in the city for a xmas function. Since we were from the south-east suburbs, rather than paying for a taxi home, we decided to stay at this backpackers. Lift access to reception is card access after hours, providing some security. Reception is spacious, and staff are warm and welcoming. To the right is a massive communal kitchen (which has free pancakes, cereals, tea/coffee for breakfast in the morning), and to the left some seating areas and a pool table. A $20 refundable deposit (cash if you paid by card) is returned with key card and pillowslips on check out. Card access is required for rooms as well as the (modern and clean) bathroom located on the same floor. We had an 8-person female only room which was spacious, tubs under beds for belongings and a locker each (byo padlock), with each bed conveniently having a powerpoint and a light. Bunks were comfortable and had a pleasant stay. Perfect location in the CBD, across the road from Flinders Street Station. Highly recommended for travellers.

During the Coronavirus period at its peak Flinders were amazing and did everything to help a British couple in need. Our private room was spotless, our bedding and towels changed regularly. The communal areas and showers were also cleaned regularly and were spotless. We cannot thank the staff also for how amazingly supportive they were during this tricky period and did everything to make us feel welcome and put activities on when things were limited. Always had a smile on their faces and could not do enough to help us. Breakfast is free and is absolutely fantastic and all you need from pancakes, cereal, tea, coffee, juice - and you can eat as much as you want!!! Would highly recommend this stay due to just how amazing the staff were.....location is also perfect! Thanks again to all the team!

Very nice hostel, very big, many floors and rooms. We had a private room with a really big bathroom that also had a small fridge, kettle and some complementary tea/coffee - that was very helpful. Staff was friendly and the location was very central. Nice and cheap cafe at the top floor. Hostel has a bar on first floor that is extremely loud on weekend nights plus there is lots of noise from the street and lots of door slamming on the corridors. We were on 6th floor and sleeping with ear plugs was possible (forget about it without them) but I think on lower floors it could be a problem. I understand that the bar is an integral part of the hostel and that's well indicated in the hostel but I don't think it was clearly indicated on booking.com website during booking procedure. Just to make sure people who decide to book a room there are aware of really big noises.

It has to be said, that this hostel is not really suited for the tranquil-seeking tourist as the huge majority of guests are backpackers in their early 20‘s.
However, for everyone who likes to meet a lot of new people and appreciates some „action“ it is THE place to be. Located just across Flinders Street Station it is the perfect spot to discover the CBD and it’s Restaurants & Cafés. There’s also a bar/club inside the hostel.

The rooms are all clean, as well as the bathrooms and other facilities.

Special: Dough for pancakes is provided for those who want to bake their own for breakfast.

All in all, we had a super time and would definitely come again!

This must be one of the BEST hostels I have ever stayed at. It's smack bang in the middle of the city, and yes, it is noisy with the sounds of the city (trams, traffic, people) coming at you from all sides. This, however, also means your super centrally located. The hostel was clean, bed very comfy, but the showers could be upgraded so there is some actual hot water coming out of the taps..
Breakfast is included (cereal, toast, pancakes, and they even supplied soy milk!) And they also have coffee, tea ,sugar, rice and pasta available all day! I'm sure this will save some backpackers from starvation 😊
Big thumbs up, I'll definitely come stay again!

Excellent experience on my 2 months stay! Really good to make friends from all over the world, do activities and chill. Every wednesday there is a free meal for guests, and every day a free walking tour to Melbourne. Staff is really nice and they just opened the bunk café on the Rooftop, with lots of veggie/vegan options! I strongly recommend this hostel =)

You must book a premium room, it's change your experience of this hostel. The rooms are quiet, the toilet/shower are clean ( water can be cold) , and the beds are comfy.

This place it's not the best hostel on city but you can't find a better location.

First time staying a hostel, I had a private twin room which exceeded my expectations and was clean with the basics provided I.e., towel, storage locker and small table/chairs. Communal shower and toilets are cleaned daily which is much appreciated, however the facilities on my floor were often closed for cleaning at what I consider to be peak time (8-9am). It’s not an issue to pop downstairs and use the other communal showers and toilets but it would be great to review the times of the cleaning schedule so that the same floor is not affected daily. The communal kitchen is clean with lots of appliances, big enough to accommodate the large number of travelers with a nice spot to sit and eat. Plenty of cold and ambient storage for personal food items. Communal lounge area is also a nice and friendly spot with music, pool table and plenty of seating however the staff could do more to ensure the area is not too rowdy on weekends, I appreciate many travelers like to pre-drink and party there before heading out but kicking footballs around and screaming the place down is not enjoyable for those who are preferring a more quiet evening. Staff are very friendly and always willing to help, the discount for the bar downstairs is a nice bonus. Fantastic location next to Flinders Street Station which easy access across the whole city. Highly recommend as a great place to stay with good management and well maintained facilities.

Staff exhibited discriminatory behaviour toward me on new year's eve💩 when I tried explaining this they asked me to leave and said they are not refunding the hundreds of dollars I had already paid in good faith .(which is a Rip off) At 1030 pm at night I had no where to stay People don't get upset for no reason . DO NOT PAY A WEEK IN ADVANCE .
YHA hostel is a better option by far I have stayed many times and always felt comfortable and welcome 🙂

Zero working laundry machines, clossest laundry is 20 minute walk away, don't stay here.
And there is no estimated time to repair, sounds like it will be a while.
Nice hostel, but without laundry it's a no go for me.

Is there parking nearby?
Answer from S.U.
London, United Kingdom57 contributions33 helpful votes
Hi Lyndsey The hostel is on a busy main street which also shares the road with the tram tracks. So only one lane in each direction for cars, so unable to stop and parking restricted on nearby streets. There are time restrictions and many loading bays. I did not investigate local parking facilities as did not drive. But if you have a car I would recommend possibly staying in St Kilda and catching tram into CBD. It is a very busy hostel and slow reception staff when I was there low season. Can't imagine how it is now!

how much would a taxi be from tullamarine airport to here?
Answer from FlindersMelboune
Melbourne, Australia5 contributions
Taxi: from the airport will cost approximately $50 - $70 But you can also take: Skybus shuttle bus service, operating 24 hours a day, picks up from out the front of each terminal and will drop you off at Southern Cross Station Ticket will cost $19.00. From : Southern Cross Station/Bus Terminal Tram - take tram number 86 or 96 up Bourke Street and then change to any southbound tram along Elizabeth Street. Train: Take any train to Flinders St Station and exit to Elizabeth St. We are a short walk half a block northbound up Elizabeth Street on the left side and are located on the Corner of Flinders Lane.
