Australia's first dedicated art hotel stands proudly on Hobart's glorious waterfront. A handsome row of historic warehouses dating from the 1820s (the former IXL jam factory) have been creatively transformed into an enthralling multi-award winning first class hotel. The hotel itself is a work of art. Here you'll be fascinated by the unexpected combination of the antique and the ultra modern.
Star ratings are intended to indicate the general level of features, amenities, and services to expect. This property is classified according to Giata.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.

Our stay at The Henry Jones Art Gallery was a celebration with friends sharing a 40 year milestone. We had booked the Peacock Terrace which has an upper and lower floor that certainly met the requirements of four people. The downstairs area was well appointed with spacious bathroom and double bed and places for luggage. For those with mobility limitations the narrow staircase will present a challenge. The upstairs area is better suited for those travelling with children. While we were travelling as couples and having requested a room configuration well in advance to suit our requirements the two single beds upstairs when we arrived was a fail.
Regarding this room, I would very much suggest that this room is better suited to families. This is further confirmed that the breakfast inclusion was for two people. We were well aware prior to booking that as for adults only two of us had breakfast included. Personally the room should be advertised as a family room with two breakfasts include. Alternatively if two couples can book then what is the issue with providing all occupants with an included breakfast? They really need to look at their terms and conditions or just make this room for families.
Breakfast for us (2 of 4) was excellent. Extremely prompt service and more than met our requirements. The breakfast dining location is a great way to enjoy a great meal to start the day while being surrounded by the history of the building.
Reception however was faultless. We were pleasantly greeted and taken to our room. The staff overall are faultless. Room service requests were very prompt and found all staff friendly and welcoming. Overall the staff made our celebration so memorable.
The location is excellent, close to restaurants, Salamanca Market and the CBD.
There is a bar and again the staff were great, friendly and attentive. Personally I found the bar far too small to meet the needs of guests. Getting a seat for a drink is a challenge. A real shame as it is great to unwind before heading up to your room.
I would highly recommend doing the art tour. I am not an art person however the tour was highly informative and the artwork was stunning.
Overall I would highly recommend the hotel however not the room we booked as two couples. The location is excellent, valet parking a real plus and respect to the history of Tasmania.

If you like art and top notch hospitality, stay nowhere else. This perfect gem of a property delivers on every score. I cannot think of a single thing I didn't like, from the drinks in the bar (cheers Matt!) to Jess's super knowledgeable art tour, glass of Tassie bubbles in hand, to the delicious breakfasts, friendly reception team, complimentary apples, comfy beds, and of course the GREAT location smack in the harbour. Every detail is well thought through, from the loving fitout of the old buildings to the food and beverage offerings selected from Tassie's best.
This might be sounding a little like a brochure - however this is how it was. My only complaint was that it was so good I was reluctant to venture further afield to explore other dining and bar options in Hobart. I was very, very happy hanging out at the Henry.
Great sleep quality cocooned in thick stone walls - and of course everywhere one looks is great Australian art, offset by excellent architecture. The details are well thought through, including toiletries you actually want to use.
I cannot praise this hotel enough. I've stayed in a lot of hotels, and it's in my top 5% ever. I'm really hoping I can find an excuse to go back.

We took the Skybus from the airport: stop one is just over the road from the hotel, which is built - beautifully - into an old jam factory. It’s an art hotel with its own art curator, but it’s not “arty” in a bad way.
The location is great the room - a loft apartment - comfortable and (once the air on/heater was on) warm. We had breakfast each day and loved it.
The art tour is a must imho - it introduces the history of the building and of (modern) Tasmania.
All staff excellent!
The WiFi is good in the room, but blocks peer-peer traffic, which is annoying. Use a VPN (eg Proton, which is free and has no usage limits) to get round this if you’re a dropbox / OneDrive user or if you’re sharing photon on apps such as PolarSteps.
Fully recommended.

The hotel is well located and the staff are exceptionally welcoming, friendly and very helpful in everything. The implementation of the hotel's fusion design idea was not close to me. I knew in advance that my room would not have a view of the harbor and the windows would look in the other direction. But in fact, to my disappointment, the room's windows looked into a commercial gallery with artificial light and no fresh air. The room is spacious, has everything you need. The space is well organized. I could not find sockets to plug in a hair dryer in the bathroom and to charge my phone by the bed! I had to fuss around for a socket for the TV! It was a very unexpected and extremely unpleasant experience. Only much later, when it was no longer needed, did I discover these ill-fated sockets in completely unusual and inconspicuous places. The cleanliness of the glasses in the minibar must be checked before a new guest checks in. Perhaps I had a hard day and was completely soaked after the rain, so the hotel was not fairly rated by me. But the process of checking into the hotel was unreasonably long. All the data was provided by the agency upon booking, but all the data was collected again upon arrival. I was wet and tired, so my report cannot be objective. The impression is brightened by the amazingly kind and friendly staff. They provide assistance quickly and to the point.

We were impressed by the uniqueness of this hotel. We had a loft suite that was large and comfortable. Our issue was the noise. We had a 2 story wall of windows that faced an alley and parking garage. You heard people all evening laughing and walking to their cars. At 7am, a delivery truck parked outside our window in the alley and rolled loud carts of linen into the building, then backed up (beep, beep). We also kept hearing repeated sounds of water running, a toilet next door? Thank goodness we had earplugs but were still awakened by the early morning delivery. The front desk was apologetic when told about the noise and did comp our parking.

Amazing stay! This is definitely one of our favorite hotels ever, and we travel a lot. Conveniently located, charming hotel, housed in a former jam factory. We booked a deluxe room overlooking the harbor. The room was huge and extremely unique, as was the entire hotel, which is (living up to its name) filled with interesting art. We had told them we were celebrating out 30th anniversary, and when we arrived at our room there was a chilled bottle of champagne waiting for us. Class! This hotel clearly knows how to cater to its guest, with perks including free valet parking and a free laundromat equipped with all the washing supplies needed. Very much appreciated as we were at the tail end of a two week trip. All of the service people were extremely helpful and there was a nice bar off the lobby, which we frequented. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

Great location, bit quirky, needs technical updates (insecure WiFi prevents email services, which was a bummer). I would not exactly call it "luxury" either - its designs, standards and services are a tad too limited for that. It's however an "upmarket fun place" in a great location.

A beautiful hotel in a fantastic location. While the rooms felt new and very clean but their design incorporated the building's original elements, such as sandstone and timber. Stunning. It is definitely worthwhile jumping on one of the free tours the hotel offers too.

We spent 3 nights here, and were very satisfied with our stay.
The front desk staff members were exceptional from arrival to departure, and answered every question we had during our stay.
I assume each room is different, as we had pieces artwork "for sale" in our room - it's definitely like staying in an art museum. We elected to pass on buying the art displayed in our room, though.
Our room was large and accommodating and very clean. The room had a neat feel of old and new, with 150 year old timbers and and trusses visible in the walls, but we also had state of the of the art communication and entertainment systems a touch away.
The complimentary "breakie" exceeded expectations. The dining venue was very open, and the service was pleasant and quick. The menu appeared to try and satisfied a variety of palates from east to west -- so I decided tried breakfast meals I would not normally eat each day. I was glad I did, as everything tried was tasty, different for me -- and just fun!
I doubt that I'll make it back to Hobart again, but if I do, I will definitely return to The Henry Jones Art Hotel.

They promote themselves as 5 star, but no one would give them more than low 4. Its a good position with plenty of free car parking. The property is noted for its collection original artworks. Reception was efficient and friendly. To get to our loft room you enter into a central atrium courtyard where you can get light pub grub. But it's freezing. Bitter. The rooms have little aspect as you are overlooked by a block of apartments on one side and a large expanse of red roof and multiple heat pumps, the other. The rooms need modernising. The furniture was scratched with large white rings evident where someone has left a hot cup for too long. The bathroom was small and desperately old fashioned. Very 80's. The fixed cabinets upstairs were cheap white melamine more reminiscent of IKEA that a top end hotel. There was even a cheap no smoking sign on the room table, the kind you find in seedy 2 star motels. Not a good look. The main restaurant was very good with excellent staff although the sommelier arrived and stood over us with both hands in his pockets completely disinterested in our table. Overall, disappointing. We felt it needed a good upgrade

Good Morning HughDownie, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us following your recent stay at The Henry Jones. While I can see that you did enjoy some aspects of your time with us, I am very sorry to hear of the concerns you experienced with your room. Our Loft Studios are very different from our rooms in the main building of The Henry Jones and while we do aim to make these differences known through our varied booking channels, I am very sorry that we have not met your expectations. I am also disappointed to hear of the customer service concern that you have raised. This is certainly not in line with the very high standards that we set for ourselves and I have shared this feedback with our Restaurant team. If you have any future plans to return to Hobart, I would love the opportunity to look after you with a great rate and complimentary upgrade so please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly If I can assist with this in any way or if you wish to discuss anything further.
