Travellers' Choice
Australia's first dedicated art hotel stands proudly on Hobart's glorious waterfront. A handsome row of historic warehouses dating from the 1820s (the former IXL jam factory) have been creatively transformed into an enthralling multi-award winning first class hotel. The hotel itself is a work of art. Here you'll be fascinated by the unexpected combination of the antique and the ultra modern.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful hotel, situated on the wharf which is a close walk to most attractions and restaurants. Most comfortable hotel bed I have slept on in some time! The staff are engaging and friendly and cant do enough to help. Thank you for making our stay memorable.

Hotel's Favourite
We arrived at 10am. for a 2.00pm check in, expecting to leave our baggage and wait. The Concierge Tim ( or was it Jim ) Clark said he could give us a room straight away, but it wasn't as good as the one he had allocated for us. We decided to take the hire Car back and come back later, so he said he would arrange an immediate housekeeping of our intended room. When we did return, the room was ready. It was No. 113 overlooking the waterfront. The room was huge, as was the bed. The bathroom seemed to go on for ever and the whole package just fitted together well. There was a little dust around, but with rough stone walls and open beams above, that's one of the practicalities. Let's face it, 30 years ago if you walked into a hotel with rough stone walls, no ceiling covering beams and the floorboards of the room above, you'd walk out complaining that the building wasn't finished. This one is. It's quaint, quirky and comfortable, The art on the walls makes it look like a gallery, the toiletries are exceptionally good and the staff have a " can do " attitude. Once we had worked out the various light switches, all was well. We rated this as the best hotel we had experienced in Tasmania and if we return to Hobart, we'll be back here again.

We booked in for two nights to start our Tasmania vacation and all I can say is WOW. Our first reaction in entering reception was the decor. A truely remarkable blend of days gone by and fantastic artwork. Next we were warmly met by staff who were so friendly and helpful. This continued with all staff virtually making lmaking you feel ike you were staying with family. Did I mention decor? well going to your room was inspiring and mind blowing with the solid timbers, this sandstone walls and exposed ceiling. There is also the modern touch of magnificent artworks. Then the surprise came, we opened our room door and censorship stops me from repeating what I said, but this was far and beyond what I expected. It was another experience to ultimate delight. I have never been in a Hotel with rooms as perfect as these. We had breakfast included in our stay and the food was delicious. The dining room is like sitting in a forest of trees with the large timber uprights. At night sitting in the lounge listening to live music from the IXL long bar you were immersed in the feeling of the building. You thought you were part of it. If I come back as a ghost I will definetly come back here and walk the corridors as it's beautiful. This was truely a remarkable way to start our vacation setting us off on a 'high'. I'm certain to return and celebrate our wedding anniversary. This Hotel and its staff is the pinnacle of accommodation.

Nice hotel and atmosphere. Excellent housekeeping, breakfast and cleanliness. Cool architecture. Sadly they continue to use little plastic bottles for shampoo etc - they talk about ending plastic everywhere in their materials, but continue to use these wasteful items. Would otherwise give them a 5 star review.

From reception to departure, we had an outstanding stay at this Hotel. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable. Our room was lovely, with comfortable furnishings, a nice view of the harbor, and several pieces of original art. The public halls and spaces are filled with varied and interesting art, some to our taste and some less so, but an excellent variety. The associated restaurant, The Landmark, was also excellent.

From the moment we drove into the guest car park the level of service was fantastic. We had one of our best check in experiences ever. The rooms are modern and very comfortable and location is excellent to all that Hobart offers. Only little things were no curtains on the windows.

Poor sleep on a bad mattress 🙁Great hotel otherwise. A heritage site indeed with fabulous character and history. Bar staff and waiting staff are wonderful! Would recommend dining at landscape restaurant and the IXL long bar.
