I recently stayed with my wife for 4 nights at the Grosvenor Hotel while attending a conference at the Adelaide Convention Centre. I last stayed at this hotel 6 years ago and have chosen the same title as my original review (when the section I stayed in was the "Ibis Styles Adelaide Grosvenor") for this updated review.

The Grosvenor, which is an older style hotel opened in 1918 (and is so over 100 years old) is in a fabulous location for conferences as it is across the road from the convention centre (which also means it is just across the road from the casino), the Adelaide Railway Station is across the road and there is also a tram stop outside the hotel.

Our room was on the 2nd floor and was very large, with a bathroom at one end and a walk in robe area at the other. While the room was looking a little tired the bathroom appears to have been recently renovated. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and the pillows excellent. The room included a bar fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and a full size ironing board, and two "proper" lounge chairs (which I have not previously experienced in an Accor hotel). The room was internal facing and the glass had been frosted over, as well as having curtains, so it was very dark inside without the lights on.

A few things for prospective travelers to note:
* Face washers are still not provided in the bathroom,
* The hotel has ducted airconditioning and the only way this can be adjusted is altering a three speed fan.
* As a Covid management measure the two lifts have a maximum capacity of only 2 people. Noting this is required due to the floor area of the lifts, it does mean you cannot always board a lift when it stops at your floor,
* As a Covid measure the breakfast comprises cereal, pre-packaged muffins and fruit cake (with, on some days, pre-packaged banana bread), fruit and croissants. Two coffee machines are provided. All cups and cutlery are disposable, and the Accor staff were very diligent in disinfecting tables after breakfast customers finished. The priority on cleaning meant that they did not always notice when some items such as butter had run out but (noting that some other breakfast customers adversely commented without bringing it to the attention of the staff) as soon as I asked they replenished the items.
* Lift access needs your swipe card.

Check in and check out were easy. I originally made the booking for this stay for May 2020 but when the Conference I was attending was postponed for 12 months the hotel gave me the options of cancelling the booking or honouring the original rates in 12 months time. I chose the latter option and at $100 per night (including the breakfast) this represents incredible value for such a central hotel. While the older style of the hotel may not suit everyone, I was very happy with my stay and would be happy to stay again at the Grosvenor.

Dear ThinController, We very much appreciate your comments regarding your stay at the Grosvenor Hotel Adelaide. I am delighted to read that you had a comfortable stay and enjoyed your visit at our hotel. I 100% agree with you on our location being excellent, very close to everything the Adelaide CBD has to offer when travelling to South Australia. We have a strange layout here at our hotel, being that we were built 101 years ago we have a different structure compared to modern day hotels. Thank you again for sharing your experience, and we hope your next visit will be as pleasant as the previous one. Sincerely, Courtney, Assistant Front Office Manager

We recently stayed here for my birthday. We were in room 215 which we were very happy with, it had a large bathroom and there was plenty of room to spread out in the actual room.

The air con worked well and the room was very quiet. The curtains blocked out all the light and we ended up sleeping later than intended on most mornings as it was so dark and comfortable!

We got a great deal which included buffet breakfast each morning. There was an excellent choice of foods including bacon, eggs, tomatoes & mushrooms, cereal selection, toast, pastries and fresh fruit.

The kids enjoyed the pancake machine with the option of whipped cream and sprinkles as toppings and the hot chocolate option on the coffee machine.

The only downfall was the parking situation. It cost $20 a night to park in the carpark. We’ve never had to pay for parking at a hotel before, so that was an extra expense.

There are hardly any spots in the small carpark and it was an incredibly tight squeeze. We drive a Colorado and were only just able to get into a space.

It’s also first in best dressed, so if you’re not one of the first back in for the day, you get sent to the overflow carpark down the road and have to walk back up to the hotel. Not the end of the world but it was pretty inconvenient, especially with kids on a 40c+ day and all the stuff you have to take with you on a day out.

The posted overnight cost on the overflow carpark was cheaper than what we were charged by the hotel too.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay here if we visit Adelaide again.

First impression was not good as the room I had booked was a very poor standard (photo on website not representative) Anyhow, after a quick chat with a very useful guy on reception we got upgraded for the next two nights at a small charge. The new room was a lot better although not the best Mercure room we have stayed in. We did enjoy a drink and meal in the bar and breakfasts had a good choice (please publicise egg options). As mentioned by others location is top notch and I had a lovely circular walk across to the river and back via the city centre. Staff remained very helpful and helped make our stay better. For our needs we thought the hotel 'ticked the box's'.

An enjoyable stay. The hotel was very presentable, the room very comfortable, very clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast options were good with certain items made to order. On very early arrival they kindly locked our luggage for check in time as our room was getting ready, so we could get going. The soundproofing of the room was exceptional – Good location for cultural venues and great access to public transport. Over our four nights stay we had contact with staff at the front desk, the restaurant, the bar and they were all professionals all the way. We would stay again.

This hotel is convenient, comfortable and very welcoming. Staff take excellent care, are always smiling and Grant daily challenges guests with his word puzzles. My room was very comfortable, always meticulously clean and housekeeping staff couldn’t do enough for me. The location is really great ... immediately opposite the Adelaide Convention Centre and close to the Torrens River, Rundle Mall and bus, tram and train lines.

I booked a room through the Accor site, it was listed as Classic Queen Bed room. As a Platinum member I have often been upgraded, though I recognise this cannot always take place. In this instance no upgrade was offered with the reason provided being that they do not upgrade on New Years Eve. The fact that this was done twice in the past...I guess things change. The car park was full leaving us with a long walk from the overflow site with our belongings to the hotel. The room we were assigned was very small and had a broken blind over a window looking out to a dirty rooftop. There were several mosquitoes in the room which did not make the idea of staying there pleasant. I approached the front desk regarding this issue whilst my husband stayed in the room and killed several insects. The young man I spoke to was lovely, the only decent service we received, though he had to defer to someone more senior. With no rooms like the one we booked apparently we were assigned another room, one where steps were required to be traversed, with luggage to get to. No offer to help transfer our belongings was made.
The new room has a double bed, not a queen, clearly I did not get what I had booked. The bed was pushed up against the wall which makes it very uncomfortable for 2 people to share. There were several moths flying around and the bathroom had mould evident. We decided to accept what we had as we would be out most of the night anyway. As we departed I was asked by the front desk if the room was better. When I responded that the room had the bed against the wall I got a 'yeah sorry' and a shrug. I certainly did not feel like the woman at the front desk cared what I thought.
When we returned it was time to get some sleep, the room was so cold and there was no mechanism available to adjust the room temperature, I slept in a jumper as the blankets were very thin and inadequate. Being up against the wall and in a small bed it was an uncomfortable night.
I was offered breakfast the next morning as part of my Platinum privileges. When we went up the stairs and gave our room number, the woman servicing marked the room and then stood in front of us staring at us for 15 seconds or so, we could not get past her without pushing her aside and she was simply standing there. It was very weird. Breakfast was OK, bacon was chewy, choice was limited but at least it was edible.
And all of this does not cover the experience we had getting out of carpark but I have run out of room.

This hotel is in a great location, located on North Terrace, opposite the Railway Station & Casino. Walking distance to Adelaide Oval, Rundle Mall, & all of the beautiful old buildings along North Terrace.
Our room was on the top floor (5 levels) & was huge, as was the ensuite. Plenty of room for luggage & to move around.
We had buffet breakfast included, but it is pricey at $27. There are places nearby where you could buy breakfast. If you have mobility issues, there are about 6 steps to get into the hotel & 12 steps to get to the breakfast area. Frontline staff were excellent & very helpful.
Overall this is a lovely, convenient located hotel & the cost per night was very reasonable.

We were greeted and checked in promptly by Grant. Whilst our suite was roomy and very clean, it was very hot. We were unable to alter the temperature of the air conditioner due to its age and had the weather/temperature been hotter as it had the previous day, 43C, we would have asked for another room or possibly checked out. As there were no fans in the room, we rang reception and asked if they had a fan we could use in the room. One was delivered promptly, making the room a little more bearable.
The bathroom was updated and very clean.
Plenty of tea and coffee and a bottle of water available.
Breakfast was most enjoyable with a good selection of food, both hot and cold.
Even though the room was so hot when we arrived, it was comfortable enough that we slept well.

Great location, very close to many of the city conveniences; tram, train & bus stops, casino & entertainment areas and shopping. However the room was small with only 1 bedside table, no minibar and a step-up to the ensuite bathroom was a major disappointment. The restaurant was very good, being very good allergy aware, offering many menu options for GF & DF allergies & vegetarians too. Breakfast area hard to access for those mobility challenged, via a set of 10-12 step stairs.
