We have been to the Gold Coast many times before but this is without a doubt the most reasonably priced and value for money property we stayed at - the pool, spa and BBQ area are fantastic and we loved having early morning & late afternoon swims!!
Some of the other reviews stated they were disappointed with the lack of dishwasher, washing up etc supplies - this is most common in all of the self contained places we usually stay - you get 1 days worth or maybe 2 if you split it and thats it - noting this I always pack a few dishwasher tablets, and washing powder with me in my case for such reasons - no real hassle if you need to do extra loads and most people can take from home.
As we were travelling as a family for business & leisure we also took my grandparents along, I did a Coles online order before hand and opted to pick up from Coles Express after the allocated check in time - I had no idea when booking that the Coles Express click & collect is literally 200m from the complex which was fantastic - again something that people can do beforehand if travelling with children to save trudging to the shops when you arrive with tired kids or oldies or both in our case :)
Only downside I can say is the lack of a lift - which we were fully aware of and wasn't an issue until I booked last minute for my grandparents to come. The resort was fantastic and managed to get them an apartment at the last minute and moved things around to give us side by side ones so it was much appreciated, but if you aren't comfortable with stairs request a ground floor apartments.
$5 charge for pool towels - while I understand why they have got this in place it was a little steep for us to pay $30 for 6 towels upfront - we have never paid this before in any accommodation anywhere in the world, I would be more inclined to make guests sign for them upon check in for the duration of the stay - if they don't return them then charge the credit card upon check out so you are not losing out = that would be my suggestion with that one but is wasn't a deal breaker for us just something I wanted to point out.
Aircon in all apartments - we understand the apartments are owned by different owners but I think this would be a welcomed & positive investment especially for those visiting that are from interstate/overseas and not accustomed to the QLD weather - saying that we managed with the fans but it did get quite hot while cooking etc in the apartment but we managed - just something to be mindful of if you do decide to book one without zircon (we had one with and one without - gave the one with to my grandparents who are here from Scotland - they most defiantly needed it lol)
Other than that we were very impressed and happy with our stay at Santana and wouldn't hesitate to return again - my grandparents especially had the most amazing time and the pool was a very welcomed surprise for them - they spent a long time in there!
Thanks again for a lovely stay!
The owners were both awesome! They were always there to have a chat and a laugh, but they were never in your face. It wasn't as though you were constantly being supervised, badgered, and observed and treated like little children who might be a little too drunk to run around the pool without causing an awful mess when you inevitably slip and split your skull. They treated you like decent people, and we couldn't have asked for more. They made great suggestions for sight-seeing, and also made the booking process for different tours very easy.
The room was fully self-contained with laundry facilities in the bathroom, which made life much simpler. There are really only so many times you can wear your lucky boxers before they turn people away from across the street, regardless of how much cologne you may have bathed in. The bedroom had a decent bed, and the air-con and overhead fan were a lot of help during the nights. The kitchen is fully equipped with a dish washer, which is great, because we weren't sure if we could rent any homeless children to do our dish washing for us whilst abroad.
The games/Internet room looked like fun, but in truth we only used it a few times to send some E-Mails, and download pictures which might have gotten us into trouble had we used our own IP Address. After that we'd leave. Having said that, the pool table, table tennis, ping-pong and arcade games looked fun. Though that wasn't what this holiday was about. This was a time for heavy drinking, mind-numbing oggling and snorkling.
The heated pool and adjoining spa were absolutely brilliant! We spent a lot of time in there. It became something of a communal hub for meeting people (those that wanted to actually meet other people, that is), and that made it all a lot more fun. I suppose the only gripe I have with the holiday is that we couldn't rent a taser to fend off all those annoying "Party Tour" people *cough* Plan B *cough* who accosted you on every other corner, trying to sell you deals to the local night life before they (for legal reasons I will add) may potentially drug you, steal your kidneys and possibly sell your image to some porn site. They were easily the biggest turn off on our trip.
But, I digress, Santana was an awesome stay. An absolutely great place with wonderful people. The next time we go to Gold Coast we'll be staying there again!
On the positive side, the resort had a nice tropical facade. The apartment had clean bedding, linen, towels, cooking utensils, air conditioning, secure parking, free internet, foxtel, spa and swimming pool. Location was not too bad in between surfers paradise and broadbeach. The beds were comfortable but having two single beds instead of a queen was not ideal.
Long story a bit shorter,we had to call booking.com who helped us find another accommodation and promised to deal with the hotel and get our money back.
If you want to enjoy your holiday in GC DO NOT GO TO THAT DISGUSTING PLACE THEY CALL HOTEL. it's not enough to be called a motel and assuming the service- backpackers.
Save yourselves some time and nerves and don't go there.
Now dear manager, I am sure you have a lot to say so please give us your rubbish about cancellation policy and so on. It's not like we didn't show up or wanted to cancel because we decided to get something else. Your service and harassing behaviour scared us away and made us feel intimidated to stay in the place.
it is very terrible, don't ever try again to stay in this resort. Really terrible.
The room stinks and there are stains on the pillows and carpet. If you don't take your rubbish to the bins in the car parks they'll charge you for it. The pool looked like it hadn't had chemicals in it for months. The water in the shower could only be freezing cold or boiling hot, so we had to have 2 second showers. There was no new appliances, fittings or decor and you can clearly tell that the apartments are poorly cared for. This is not a case of "you get what you pay for" because for $150 i expect clean sheets, functioning doors and fans and the aircon I requested. Never staying here again.
