This place was great value! Well managed, excellent location, really nice pool and comfortable apartments with big balconies. I stayed in a 3 bedroom apartment with my wife and 2 little ones and we had a ball.

Stayed in a two bedroom apartment it was very spacious, we loved sitting out on the balcony at night having drinks. The pool was a great size and good temperature for pool water. It was a 10 minute walk to Macrossan street which is the Main Street full of restaurants, shops & cafes.

Very clean, reasonable location, great pool, good value.
It was a pretty usual holiday apartment. Clean well laid out. Pool was a great size and there was a great communal bbq. Good parking. Walking distance to main strip (25-20mins) and 4 mile beach (5-10mins). My gripe was that some or all apartments are privately owned. Normally no issue but there were young workers living there in groups. They were up at 5am heading off to work. Nothing wrong with that but the transfer of noise as per usual holiday apartments was not great. So those on holiday had to put up with the early morning exits and also noisy return from ‘after work drinks’. They were lovely people just going about their lives but it’s worth mentioning I think.

We had two rooms from 3 April to 7 April. Rooms are large and light. Very Gold Coast 90,s. Lovely pool and clean well presented cooking area near the pool. The rooms need some attention, no coat hangers, spa jet bath did not work, fan on the balcony did not work and finally but needs to highly considered, there is and has been construction work next door for four years! The builders commence at 7-15 to 7-30am. This should be advised at the time of booking.

We picked Centra Plaza from the reviews on the web. Not only was the price reasonable but the reviews here were fully met.

The owners are very helpful and direct you to the best tours in their opinion and I never felt let down by any advice. Although a fellow helper did try and push us towards a golf course that he over sold as we passed on one of our tours and changed our mind.

The room was clean on arrival, air con on and after just coming from Ayres Rock and a poor experience at Sails in The Desert we were extremley suprised. There was two bathrooms, one with a shower one with a spa tub (unexpected bonus) The rooms are sparse in design but provide all the basics you require. Plus there was an LCD tele in the bedroom if you wanted to lie on your bed and watch some tele. The room also had a washing machine and dryer to get those clothes clean.

The pool was fantastic, It had a little spa pool and a covered swim area to limit the amount of sun hitting the pool. there was also a gas barby that you could use free of charge as well.

Our Advice for tours:

Snorkling: We were going to do wavelength, but in the end went to poisiden as although wavelength is snorkel only they do not go out as far as poisiden did. Poisden go right to the end of the contental plate and the reef was amazing. Wavelength go to 6/10 reefs where poisden have a boat that can get to the 9/10 reefs. Also fluffy the marine biologist was fun and helpful all day. (Thanks for the shark pic fluffy)

Rainforest: We went with Tonys Tropical Tours. My advice take them every time. They were very infomative and you learn far more than look at the colour of that tree. Also you get to on a walk that does not have boards and you feel very much more in the jungle, and swim in a fresh (croc free) waterhole and paint yourself with the stones. Basically want to know the plants that kill, have Cyanide in them or bring you out in a nasty rash then this is the tour for you. Just be warey of your croc spot tour boat driver. Ours got us stuck on a log in a croc infested river which was quite worrying till another boat pulled us off.

Thats basically it. Go to Port Douglas as soon as you can as new developments are starting to spring up. This resort has the fasted access to both the reef and rainforest and is a great place to relax as well.

If you do decide to stay in central plaza then there is a fantastic backpackers lodge just down the road. Turn right out of driveway away from main road, turn left at the end of their road and walk to the T-Junction and the bistro is there. This place is simple in style as you collect your own food and condiments but:
1) The drink and food price is very very cheap $20AUD on average for steaks, lamb, sea food platters.
2) The chefs take pride in their job and you get fantasticly presented food that is very difficult to finish due to the enormous amount you get
This is a little gem that gives quality and a great price. It's always busy and half the price of going into the center.

Well thats it Central Plaza is top quality not one complaint which for me is rare.

Hope this helps

Cannot recommend Central Plaza Resort highly enough. Stayed for 4 nights in June 2006, wished we could have stayed longer, immaculately presented, modern, lots of extras at very reasonable price - approximately £70 (English Pounds per night). We had a 2 bedroom apartment even though only 2 of us, with huge spa bath in 1 bathroom and large walk in shower in 2nd bedroom. Fully fitted very modern kitchen with full oven, microwave, dishwasher etc. Fully air conditioned, easy to use washer and dryer and even an airer to get clothes dry after a day in the rainforest, Owners very knowledgeable for advising about tours and local info, if it wasnt for them we would have missed Great Barrier Reef as weather was not going to be too good for next few days and they advised to take trip asap. We went with Haba, not too large boat, very attentive crew and Reef just amazing do not miss it!

Rainforest, we were advised to go with Tonys Tropical Tours (we had Tony himself) in brand new 4 wheel drive, max of 6 people and he was such great fun and company and made the day not only interesting with his knowledge of flora and fauna but highly entertaining as well with his stories and experiences.

Best place to eat we found value for money - great fish and chips and beer for $12 on main street one lunch time and Soul and Pepper, restaurant near harbour for evening meal, very fresh seafood and LOTS of it. Central Plaza is very well placed for beach and shops and restaurants only 10 minute walk to either.

To summarise - BEST HOLIDAY WE HAVE EVER HAD, BEST RESORT AND BEST ACCOMODATION!!

We stayed in Port Douglas for around 10 nights mid february and I'm so glad we chose the Central Plaza. We had not booked anywhere and arrived in PD looking for a place to stay, and we were recommended this place by a local tourist office. The rate they gave us was $135 per night, which, for the quality of this place, was just brilliant value.
We stayed in apartment 22 which had 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The master bedroom was fantastic; king size bed, LCD tv mounted on the wall, large wardrobes, en suite bathroom with jacuzzi tub and patio doors leading to the balcony. The other 2 bedrooms were plain in comparison but still more than adequate. The kitchen is very well equiped, it has pretty much everything you could possibly need, microwave oven, gas hob, big fridge, even a dishwasher!! The apartment also had a washer and a dryer which was incredibly useful.
The pool was lovely and perfect for sunbathing, the pool itself was actually covered and shaded by two big sails, which is great if you don't want to get burnt. There was also a gas BBQ there which guests can use.
All in all we just loved this place and didn't want to leave.
The owners, Johnny and Kay, are very friendly and helpful. They encourage you to speak to them when booking tours, this is a great idea as they are very knowledgable. They booked our snorkelling tour with Haba which was perfect. The instructors were so friendly and very informative. They also provided a lovely buffet style lunch meal, and as it was Valentines Day they gave us free champagne and chocolates! Would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to snorkel on the great barrier reef, it was an amazing experience.

PD is a perfect holiday destination. Although it is small, it has so much to see and do.It is placed ideally right near the rainforest and barrier reef, and the beaches are just beautiful. The town centre is great, especially Macrossan St. which is full of lovely restaurants and cool shops, there is a big internet cafe which you can't miss and is very reasonable. As we had such great facilities we cooked our own meals for most of the trip, however we did get out three times to eat. Our first was the Hogs Breath by the harbour (really not impressed with that, not in any way sophisticated but good cocktails!) then we ate at the Nautilis place on the inlet (sorry, forget the full name) which was fabulous, had lovely big crayfish in a great atmosphere. Then finally we ate at Zinc, which was excellent and by far our best meal of our whole trip around australia. It was very busy as it was saturday night, but the service was still good and the food was just brilliant, as were the desserts. Don't let the locals put you off this restaurant, it's a must!

Just returned from a holiday in Australia & stayed at the CENTRAL PLAZA for 6 days, we were extremely happy with the standard of the accomodation - the apartment was very clean and well presented, the bathrooms in particular were immaculate
Little touches like iced water & milk in the fridge on arrival - air con. and lights on made us feel most welcome.
Having a washing machine & dryer in the apartment was invaluable to us as we were going on to Sydney & then Singapore from Port Douglas...
We took Kay's advice regarding the barrier reef trip and went with HABA dive who were brilliant - my husband who is a non swimmer, actually snorkelled on the reef with the help & support of Erin one of the crew members who took the time to encourage & support him all the way- we really had the most amazing day.
We are more than happy to recommend CENTRAL PLAZA to anyone & would certainly stay there should we ever visit PD again.

I had an excellent 3 nights here in March 2006. The room was ready when I arrived around 10am (checkin was 2pm). I had a one bedroom apartment. It was spotlessly clean with wonderful facilities. The kitchen had an oven, dishwasher, large fridge freezer etc. The room comes with a laundry including washing machine and dryer which was handy halfway through my holiday. The bedroom was comfortable and included 2 bathrooms - one with spa bath, the other with shower. The owners were friendly and helped with a trip booking. Rate was $125 per night. The pool is quite large but I did not use it. The hotel location is quite good - about 10 mins walk to marina or Macrossan street.
One of the best places I have been to on holiday - I would highly recommend it and would go back.

We stayed in a 3 BR at Central Plaza in Oct 2005 and agree with the previous review that it was a great place to stay in PD. The place was very clean and comfortable - and we didn't see a single bug, a fear of mine in the tropics! The facilities were also great and well maintained. The tennis courts are across the street and shared with other hotels. We grilled out by the pool while the children had an evening swim several nights. The "playground" was really just a sandpit by the pool.

John and Kay were outstanding hosts. They spent lots of time with us planning our days and helped with bookings to the reef, Rainforest Habitat etc... They made good recommendations and seemed to offer honest advice about the area.

FYI, the pool was 1.3 meters at the lowest point, not the best for young children. However, my children became much better swimmers by the end of the week as a result!

Will definitely recommend to friends and hope to visit again one day!

Good morning, the pool is 1.3m at the most shallow bit but we have a lot of very young children play in the heated spa which has a step right along one side, they just love it.
Port Douglas, Australia5 contributions1 helpful vote
Good morning, we do not have accredited disable units as such, but we do cater for semi disabled guests as there are no steps to access the ground level apartment and there is a grab rail into the pool as well. The second bathroom that only has a toilet, shower and vanity is quite large also. There are only 2 ground level units that also have grab rails beside the toilet. We have an owner of an apartment that is in a wheel chair but is able to get himself on to a shower chair and toilet without any problems. The pool is heated in the Winter only and we usually manage to get it up to 28-30 degs C IF the night time temperatures aren't too cold, the hot water from the heat pump goes in to the spa area at 10am until 4pm approximately at around 30 degs C so it is a lovely place to sit until the rest of the pool catches up. I do hope this is of some help, please let me know if you need any other information.
