Detailed Reviews
Having travelled regularly to Nth QLD inc Palm Cove and Port Douglas this was the first time staying in Cairns and we were very pleasantly surprised. Cairns is a clean city with great amenities and offerings for travellers of all types, ages and budgets, all mingling seamlessly. The city offers an amazing free outside beachie-styled pool for the community right on the esplanade. Lots of waterside walks as well.
The Riley Hotel had a great last minute rate for their Suite via their own website and it was very worthwhile.
The Riley Hotel is only 1 year old and first class with amazing pools and around pool service - we had pool side lunch everyday and prices were very reasonable. The entire hotel ambience is very positive and vibrant. Water and sun cream free to guests as was wifi which was very strong.
Onsite bars and restaurants were well attended. Gym was basic but acceptable.
I would visit again and or try others in the Crystalbrook collection.

For a 5 star hotel I wasn’t impressed. Room no bigger than 4 star hotels in the area and bath tub not a standard feature. No porter (I’m told this is due to Covid although I’m not sure what difference interaction with a porter would make when we’re interacting with all the other staff). We had several issues with their technology including not being able to book through their website. Their iPad with their own app was completely flat on arrival and then when it did charge it was pretty pointless, you cannot do anything through the app, if you need anything you still need to call reception. Wasn’t told any information about breakfast options on check in and couldn’t find any info about it on the app. I found a tissue in the pocket of one of the robes. Only one towel per person provided in the room, would expect to have extra for your hair without having to ask, also no wash cloths. Pool table area was dusty (I don’t know how when you see cleaning staff walking around all day) and some of the cues were missing the tip. The pool was lovely and the ability to order drinks and snacks from your phone around the pool was great.

I highly recommend the Riley!
We booked the Riley for one night prior to an early flight out of Cairns. Wishing we would have stayed another night or two!
The property is beautifully designed, well staffed, and convenient to many restaurants along the esplanade. Anna checked us in and she was very helpful in directing us to some good shopping whilst we waited for our room to be ready (we arrived well before the 2:00 check-in). The entire staff were a pleasure to interact with.
As an architect and very frequent traveler, it was a joy to experience a room that was so well thought out and detailed. Minimalist Luxe would be my descriptive phrase. Every piece was thought about thoroughly. Tile joints align with wood panel joints, thoughtful lighting, crisp corners and everything blends into a peaceful whole. I even purchased one of their linen bath robes as it was unique and functionally comfortable. Great bed as well.
More importantly, there are spaces to put all your things! Amazing how many hotels seem to forget that travelers actually bring clothing and suitcases with them. Plenty of drawers and cubbies and a great ironing board as well (not the usual piece of flimsy tin).
The pool is very nice. It can get a bit overrun with children so perhaps not the most relaxing spot but that changes throughout the day.
Finally, The price is unbeatable.

We decided to stay at this resort to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary and we were not disappointed. We were given a local's discount and we stayed in the Panaromic Seaview Room on the 11th floor overlooking the Esplanade. The staff were lovely and very welcoming and a bottle of champagne was taken to our room as a gift for our Anniversary, which was a lovely gesture. The resort pool was very inviting and the weather was perfect. We had dinner at the Balinese Bayleaf restaurant which is only a block away and is within walking distance. We did have a buffet breakfast in the resort the following morning and it was amazing. A hint, book breakfast in advance and a discount was given. The resort is relatively new so it is very clean and it is environmentally conscious. As a local I would definitely stay there again, it felt like a mini break even though it was for just one night. Thankyou for a rememberable night!

When we were checking in, we arrived a little early and were told the room was not yet available, but they guarantee check in from 2. This was fine, except our room was then not ready until 2.30pm, with no apology.
As we were handed our room keys we were basically shooed away, and I had to interrupt to ask where to go for our room.
Rooms themselves are nice enough, though not as high end as I’d expect. Beds are quite firm, and the pillows are terrible! I didn’t get a decent nights sleep our entire stay, despite going through the pillow menu to try and find a better option. I’m not particularly pillow sensitive either, so I’d suggest bringing your own.
The 55 inch tv is good, and the free movies are a wonderful bonus.
Sound proofing in the room is woeful, despite being on the 7th floor I could clearly hear kids playing in the pool as well as hearing corridor noise.
I liked the toiletry products though my husband was not a fan. The rainfall shower head was wonderful, in a large oversize shower.
There is no serviced mini bar, so we purchased snacks from the supermarket and used the small in room fridge (no freezer).
We had room service once (order through the iPad, it took me a day or so to realise room service even existed!), it was ok but nothing special. Service finishes at 8pm, so plan accordingly if you are getting in in the evening.
Breakfast was also ok, we had it included in our rate but I’m not sure I’d pay for it otherwise. It was a selection of hot (bacon, sausages, variety of eggs, hash browns etc) and cold (yoghurts, fruit, cereal and hot cross buns/muffins/pastries).
We did have a couple of issues, namely going out one day to return at 3.30pm and the room still not having been made up - this was quickly rectified with a call to reception. The next day I lodged a request for housekeeping around 8am and when we returned after noon the room still wasn’t made up- when we asked at reception for this to be rectified they said check out rooms are cleaned first with continuing rooms cleaned afterwards from about 2.30 and that putting in a request for housekeeping in the morning is basically pointless. More worryingly, an employee let themselves in to our room without knocking or announcing themselves. He was most apologetic when he realised we were there, but it was still not an ok thing to do.
We also had a receipt on the floor under the luggage bench from 26 March, despite us not checking in til 4 April (where it remained til we checked out on 12 April) so I question how well the rooms are cleaned.
We did receive a bottle of wine for our anniversary, which was a lovely gesture. We didn’t receive any water in our room til our last night.
Location was also great, I’d also recommend booking at least a resort view room.
All in all, if we return to Cairns I will probably look for somewhere else to stay. The Riley was fine, but nothing to write home about.

Hi Novocastrian_Ash, Thank you for your feedback. Feedback like yours assists us in identifying areas where we just didn't get it right and where we can certainly improve. It is disappointing that you experienced below standard service that we aim to achieve at riley and certainly not our norm and I sincerely apologize for this. We have reviewed some of our services with such feedback like yours driving the change. I am pleased to advised that we have re-introduced Minibar into all our rooms. Guests can now order the desired items from a Minibar menu that's located on our in room iPad. Our pillow menu has been refreshed up a wider selection of pillows including Firm and Memory Foam pillows. We hope to see you back at Riley in the future and that you can experience the true Riley hospitality that we are known for. Regards, James Mackintosh Front Office Manager Crystalbrook Riley

There weren't too many reviews online for this hotel compared to some of the other larger hotels in Cairns, but the pictures and the reviews we saw were great. And it definitely lived up to it. Zero complaints about the hotel, the service, the pool (which was the best), the room.
We had a Sea King room, right on sea facing side, perfect unobstructed view. The finishings and furniture in the room were perfect. The rain shower was honestly the best shower I've ever used.
While the hotel is on the far opposite end of the main road (from the marina), it is a short 10-15 minute walk or an $8 AUD Uber.

The Riley exceeded our expectations. The lobby area is light, airy and provides a view of the pool area.
The front desk staff and bellhop could not have been more helpful.
Our room was in the tall tower with an all glass wall overlooking the ocean and esplanade. We were walking distance to the Aquarium where there is the excellent Dundee's restaurant and to the port where we boarded our tour boat to the Great Barrier Reef.
The excellent breakfast buffet has many options. Tables are located both indoors with air-conditioning and outdoors with views of the ocean. On most days, we selected to eat outside.

Stayed here for 4 nights end Jan/beginning of feb in a twin room on 2nd floor overlooking the pool. Overall a fantastic hotel and reminds me of resorts in Asia. Downsides: not everything g open due to COVID. Check with hotel before you go there which outlets are operating and when. Nothing available after around 8.30pm most nights including room service. If you want to get into Roccos make sure you book in advance as it is only open over weekends and very popular.no options for breakfast at Paper Crane (only facility open for breakfast) except buffet option and not open for lunch at all during the week. Quite loud house/lounge style music pumped throughout the pool/bar area. Not offensive but a little variety in music would be nice to cater for all ages staying there. Also noticed that different music pumped out of the bar than at the pool area which could become quite irritating with competing music when in the pool. Few of the lounges have umbrellas, could do with more. Have to get your pool towels from reception - this is painful so most prop,e don’t take them back so hard to know if pool lounge is occupied or if just covered with an abandoned towel. Room service arrives with no cover on food so it is not hot when it arrives and they charge a delivery fee which is a pet hate of mine. No mini bar. Upsides: The pool is truly spectacular - spent most of my time there. Not busy when I stayed so did not have a problem getting lounge chairs but be mindful that in busier times you’ll struggle. Pool bar next to pool area and at esplanade frontage of hotel so it has a great atmosphere. Can order drinks and food from the pool area that are delivered to you there and able to drink your cocktails at he pool although the drinks and food menu are limited. Rooms are new, modern and spacious. Watch the water pouring out under the shower door, bathroom floor gets quite wet. Coffee machine, good quality tea, iron, ironing board and hairdryer provided (hairdryer fairly lame though). Excellent quality shampoo, conditioner and body lotion provided, did not have to use my own. Balconies nice and large with comfortable outdoor furniture and great view if you have an internally facing balcony. Need to be on level two or above. Would most definitely stay here again simply for the pool.

We have just come back from 4 nights at the Riley and what a fabulous experience we had!
Check in was very welcoming and done with ease. The staff were all friendly, helpful and lovely.
The buffet breakfast was wonderful (I am sure my husband and I put on a few extra kilos ha ha) lots to choose from, everything was hot , fresh, plentiful and delicious!
The pools are to die for , our favorite was the "beach" one but they were all great.
The rooms were beautiful and clean and the bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in a hotel/resort!
The bath products are heavenly, I even bought some to take home with us!
Check out was done quickly and efficiently especially since we checked out at 5 am , we were even given a breakfast box to take with us.
The Riley is opposite the beach and you get a lovely sea breeze in the evening and it is also super close to everything so it's in a great location.
100% we are staying here again next time we come to Cairns, the only things I could possibly fault were that the elevators need air con lol ,they were so hot and stuffy but as you are only in them for 5 seconds not a big deal and the in room ipad only worked on the first day and didn't really have much info about the resort on it. I know we could of mentioned it to the staff and I am sure it would of been rectified but again it was no big deal.
Thank you so much Riley for having us, we loved every second of staying with you and can't wait to come back!!!!!
Great job everyone!

What a wonderful stay!
We made a very last minute change of holiday destination thanks to covid restrictions preventing us going to Adelaide and lucky for us we ended up here.
This is a fabulous hotel, there is so much we loved about it, from the minute we arrived weary, late at night and were greeted by two friendly and super helpful ladies, we were happy.
The hotel is luxurious and elegant but with a relaxed coastal vibe throughout.
Lots of beautiful spaces inside the foyer and other indoor and outdoor spaces to lounge around very comfortably.
The pool area is fabulous and usually has poolside service.
Meals and drinks were reasonably priced, so we often ate right there on a sun lounge, instead of venturing out.
We used the complimentary bikes to ride to the Botanical Gardens Cafe for breakfast (that's another story, coffees were good but breakfast was terrible), nonetheless it was a really fun outting and great that they don't charge for things like this.
Free Sat am yoga, free water daily, too.
Highly recommend the Rocco Bar on the 12th floor, it was fabulous, wonderful views, extensive drinks list and great prices at happy hour. ($12 cocktails, choice of 3).
Great location on The Esplanade, great for walking to everything and close to playgrounds and the lagoon.
We have loved everything about our stay and will definitely be back.

Agree - If you have a car, it’s super easy to drive up to Pt Douglas - it’s a gorgeous coastal drive. But I recommend a scuba trip leaving from Cairns as there are tons to choose from!
The bed was quite firm but very comfortable.
