Working in Mackay paid me enough to allow me to have a month's holiday in Brisbane, truly a new World city. Its location and free very regular shuttle bus service to Roma and With Bank meant I could walk round the Parklands every morning, do all the free Hopper ferries, walks, guided tours, and other sightseeing, and end up at South Bank every afternoon where I could spend a few hours before going back to the hostel enjoy TV room, films, free wifi, books and small library, loungers by the pool and the free breakfast. The best thing for me were the brilliant staff who were unfailingly helpful, friendly and cheerful, especially Iris, Mitch, Johan and Lara. I hope you all stay safe and well in this global health crisis and can operate in the future when normal life resumes.

Stayed only for one night in a female only, friendly staff, rooms have their own bathroom and balcony. Just around 15 minutes walk to the city lagoon. The hostel is pretty busy, so pretty easy to socialise.

This location works well when one needs essentials and for those willing to make things happen.

For such a short stay, I need high speed wifi. This place has it. I highly desire hot showering water. You bet, this place has it. I needed the Thai Consolate and a good financial institution. Plus, i found the cinema and coffee cafes.

It was a lil cool in my 4x share but the desk had me blanketed. Additionally, in the realm / style of Backpackers, one finds a nice media center separate from a pod of desktops. There's a really good food preparing arrangement. It's got
already planned meals, and has plenty of guest eating space. If one stays a while, it's possible to realize savings. Additionally, one has access during the day to a local shuttle to public transportation. I'd only guess that tipping is acceptable but there is no pressure.

The crowd is mixed with local and afar, and a swing towards under 31. Music speaks in favor of generational mixes. Moreover, there's plenty of constant energy, good vibes with service amongst staff.

As always, just ask. You'll get what you need as this modest facility works well!

Booked one of the 'pod' rooms for one night. Absolutely loved it - wished every hostel offered these! Really appreciated the large lockable storage lockers in each room too as they were handy for putting all luggage away in (you can fit a large rucksack or suitcase in if you wanted). En-suite bathroom and communal facilities were very clean. Would definitely stay again.

The hostel was run down and in desperate need of repair, holes in the bathroom ceiling, disgusting showers and poorly maintained communal areas. The hostel is advertised as having air conditioned rooms however the air conditioning does not work in the room and felt like a sauna, so was unable to get any sleep. One member of staff was very helpful and could not be more apologetic about the conditions in which we were subjected to and tried to move our rooms but didn’t have anything else available. When speaking to the the so called manager James, the following morning after a night of no sleep, he was unapologetic about our situation and said it’s tough sh*t’. The smug attitude of him following our awful night stay is a reflection of the entire stay.

We stayed here as a family and had a great time.
The staff were friendly and the room was clean and tidy.

Great central location near Westend and Southbank.

They have cool facilities including pool, spa, basketball court, pool table and table tennis 🏓.
They’ve a bar and good shared toilets and showers.

The hallway and room did have a slight strange smell and the beds weren’t the best, however cheap and cheerful.

Stayed here for two nights in December.

It's a typical backpackers place, all the usual amenities such as kitchen and communal areas. We stayed in a private room with private bathroom. Room wasn't too clean, found someone else's hair in our bed and the reception staff control the air con so it only gets turned on from 7pm - 7am so if you're in the room at any other time of day it's a sauna.

We also paid for the high speed wifi in the room which didn't work half the time and when I mentioned this to reception I got a blank response - no refund or even apology offered.

Only redeeming factor was the location which was a 10 minute walk to Southbank which is lovely. Highly recommend visiting Brisbane but would not recommended staying here unless you're literally looking for a bed to crash in.

Hi Emma, Thank you for you feedback in regards to your stay here at BBR. Firstly, I would like to apologize for the inconvenience of the WiFi not being fast in your room. This is something we have now fixed, adding more access points to all rooms. I'm sorry you did not feel the room was adequate, I can assure you we have very hard working cleaners who are in daily to service rooms and if you had addressed this problem while you were staying here we could have resolved it. In regards to the air con, we do not have the air con on during the day to be eco-friendly, save wastage and because most backpackers are out of the rooms during day time and benefit more from the air con at night when they sleep. This is something we make clear on both our website and upon check-in. I'm glad you found our location convenient and hope you also took advantage of the free shuttle bus we offer to the City and Southbank. Look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Kind Regards, Front Office Manager.

I stayed at Capsules first which were really comfy, squeaky sometimes though which was the only issue other than that good, there are air cons inside of them, usb charging stations, different sets of neon lights, etc. 2 rooms which are connected to each other, 4 capsules in each room, there was also a little balcony. Capsule rooms are typically quite and good to get some rest when super tired.

Then, I moved to 8xbed dorm which wasn't too bad, can be a bit disgusting though sometimes depending on who you stay with, I mean when they spray the F* out of the room with their cheap sh*t-smelling deodorant - you have to breathe! Breeeathe! Other than that you get what you pay for pretty much, it was like 120 bucks a week (end-2021 price). There is a balcony, a much better one than the one in the capsule room, there is also a shower and toilet. Obviously, not much of a privacy as you'd inevitably see and hear everything what's happening in the room, for more privacy - capsules or private rooms which are super-expensive if you're a traveller or student!

I have been here for five weeks. The location in West End perfectly fits to enjoy the close West End area with its Restaurants und urban Shops. But also for the 15 minutes walk down to South Bank Parklands, or the city highest Point ‘Highgate Hill Park’. The employees were always friendly to me. The location is mostly clean. Cleaned every day also the kitchen. The Cleaning-Team is doing a great job. Pool, spa and sportsarea are just fine. The bed could be better stabilized.

Large all male room with balcony and clean bathroom. I stayed 4 nights and had the tops bunk for 3 of the 4 nights. This place is kind of noisy because of all the long term residents. One of the semi-permanent residents had his phone alarm on at 0430 to 0530 on his work days, just kept pushing the snooze button for an hour. Also, very few short term residents and parking can be tough to find on Saturday night. FYI, Saturday night people have normal conversations in the room, hallways, balconies and all over the place after midnight. Free breakfast was good which is bread or toasted bread with peanut butter and jam or honey. Orange flavored juice is OK. Lots of international travelors and lots of nice conversation! Alexy and Jonas were very friendly and provided excellent service. The other front desk crew and staff were also helful and friendly, but I forgot their names. Because my rental car company didn't give me a map, I had difficulty finding the place, but it is located in a very nice part of South Brisbane. Bathrooms and showers in room and also by the swimming pool. Computers located near reception desk. I would stay here again now that I know South Brisbane better.
