Stay two nights either side of tour of area.

Basically in centre of town. A minutes walk to local Coles, woolworths and mall and a few minutes to river side.

Onsite cafe bar come breakfast area.

Separate pub/tavern on site with full food service.

24 hr reception.

Some rooms facing main street are over the pub area which can get noisy when the pub patrons get rowdy later in the evening.

I upgraded to rear quite area for 2nd night, it cost an additional $20.

Rooms are decent size with all expected amenities.

Whole property and rooms generally well maintained and clean.

Rooms generally well maintained and clean, though, I room I had the curtains needed a good clean which was only issue.

The other room was fine, but one small section of skirting board looks like it was overlooked in the last paint job.

Recommended for reasonably priced centrally located stay with close access to all facilities

We had one night at The Diplomat before heading off around the Red Centre in a camper van. It suited us fine but it’s a fairly no frills place which might not be to everyone’s taste.

Staff were friendly and food in the adjoining pub was good - the hotel gives you a drinks voucher to encourage you to visit.

Accommodation is divided into individual blocks, the doors of which are opened with your room key. Security was really lax though - the door was almost always left open and free for anyone to walk in.

Due to the unexpected illness of my wife I stayed at The Diplomat for just over a month. The hotel delivers what it promises - Comfortable, clean accommodation in the centre of town.
The attached cafe and tavern provide good value meals and the tavern a range of drinks to go with the meals. True Friday night karaoke can be a bit noisy but that is the only issue.
What set the Diplomat apart for me was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff from the reception to the housekeeping staff they were all great. I certainly would stay again.

Stayed at the Diplomat three times in four different rooms in the course of coming and going from Alice over a period of close to a month. I thought the service provided including standard of accommodation was excellent, especially given the very reasonable room rates. While the rooms were standard country-town motel style rooms, nothing opulent about them, they were spacious including the bathrooms (most of which had been recently renovated). Beds comfortable and wifi signal consistently strong. Location is excellent, right in the centre of town, and there was no problem with parking on the premises. We had no issues with security, as other guests had commented. Each time we stayed also received free coffee vouchers for the cafe downstairs and beverage vouchers for the bar. Would gladly return.

What a great hotel to stay at in Alice Springs. The staff were great and the rooms very well appointed. We had a package where each person had a voucher towards breakfast and the cost was very reasonable. Hotel is in the centre of town so most places were in walking distance. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Alice Springs

We stayed at the Diplomat for 5 nights, using it as a base for day trips. Staff were friendly. Pool area was clean and inviting (although a little too cold for us to swim at the time). Having a cafe and tavern on site was fantastic as we didn’t have to venture far for quality meals if we didn’t want to. There were some stains on the bedding but bedding smelt fresh and clean. Rooms are dated however it is a great central location with many amenities on site.

I have stayed many times here over the last 15 years but not much since new management as I find them to be completely unfriendly.
I stayed recently, not by choice, and the man at reception was so rude, slapped my keys on the counter and said “Room such and such, ok?” There are 2 levels and 4 buildings and he did not tell me where my room was, say have a nice stay. Nothing.
He is the opposite of hospitality.
In my room, I scratched from the moment I got there until I got home and threw my clothes in the bin.
Get rid of the stinking old carpet for God’s sake.
Yes, the location is bang on. But, you need to rip the carpet out, replace the old cushions, fumigate and clean up your act in the service department.
We all know accommodation is at a premium in town at the moment, that doesn’t mean you can get away with shocking service. People have memories.

This was just a one night stay at the start of our NT holiday. The staff seemed very friendly and helpful. The room on the other hand was very old, the bathroom (bath/shower in particular) was very dated and could have used a little love.
The bar attached was a welcome stop, appears like its a workman's pub - lots of tradies there but handy none the less.
Food was ok.
We discussed safety of walking at night with hotel staff and were told not to after 8pm. We found out why later that night - a group of locals were very vocal on the street next to our room in the early hours - thankfully the gates are locked and security employed at night.
Overall not a bad place to stay if passing through.

The Diplomat Motel is in a central location close to shops. Stumps Café is on site and open for breakfast and lunch. Staff are friendly and there is a reasonable menu and the food and coffee are good quality. Uncles Tavern is also on site and serves good quality bar meals for dinner. The tavern was busy but meals were available in a reasonable time and drinks available after a short wait in a queue.

We stayed at The Diplomat for 2 nights in a King Room on the first floor. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was close to the corner of Gregory Terrace and Hartley street and whilst it was close to the tavern we didn't notice excessive noise other than some loud cars on the adjacent streets. The main room and bathroom were large and the air conditioning effective. There was a small amount of rust on the shower screen and some cracked tiles in the bathroom. The King size bed was comfortable but the sheets were worn thin and had been repaired. There were stains on the carpet.

Stayed Diplomat for one night. Location wise was good. Located in the heart of Alice spring and close to shops, supermarkets and restaurants.

The room was really lousy. I don't know how those "official photo" were taken, must be either done many years ago when the motel was just built, or they have someone who really good at Photoshop. The room was dirty and shabby, don't even have a proper door. Our room is facing the main street which is quite noisy. However, after reading other reviews I feel that we were lucky, as those rooms close to or on top of the tavern could be much worse -- we had dinner in the tavern and can imagine how noisy it could be.

Regarding the service.... well, there's no much service. They did give drink/beverage vouchers which it's the only highlight in the entire stay.

In short, unless you don't care about the dirtiness and is able to sleep through the traffic/bar noise, do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else

It's a 2.1km walk, about 25 mins. Just be ware that it is like urban warfare in Alice Springs after dark so it might be ok during the day but not after the sun sets.
