Very pleased with our stay at the Megaboom. The room was relatively compact but had everything we needed and was clean and comfortable. The bed was comfortable and the aircon efficient.

Many reviews talk of the trains - which you can most definitely hear - but it's more of a low rumble and is pretty unobtrusive. The building certainly doesn't shake!

We picked the hotel because of its central CBD location right opposite the Queen Victoria Building. Having been to Sydney previously, we knew this was where we wanted to be. It's very handy indeed for downtown Sydney. Darling Harbour is a few minutes walk away and Circular Quay about a ten minute walk. The tram/light rail stop is on the next street right outside the QVB. Public transport in Sydney is excellent with very frequent services.

The Megaboom has a free laundry room which was incredibly handy and a nice touch. There are a couple of washing machines and a couple of tumble dryers and you can either provide your own detergent or buy it from reception. In the sweltering heat, it was great to be able to get some clothes laundered.

The reception staff were polite and friendly. We had no complaints at all about our stay. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Once you get used to the regular rumble of the train line, this is a very comfortable hotel where you can get a good nights sleep. They give you ear plugs when you check in, but its more the vibration of the train that's a bit annoying. We got used to it, but if you are a light sleeper this may not be the place for you. It's well located for the city centre and local eateries, very comfy beds, quite air con and hot powerful showers. My only concern was the lack of security from the street, you did not require a swipe card to access any of the floors via the lift from the ground floor, which was open to the street for most of the day. Having said that, we didn't experience any problems.

We stayed at Megaboom for three nights. The location on York Street is excellent and allowed us to walk to Circular Quay and Darling Harbour very easily. It is near the Town Hall train station and the George Street tram. Based on my perusal of reviews which said the standard rooms could be considered by some as too small, we opted for the Premium King Room. It was spacious enough for us and contained enough storage room, a good mini fridge, a small work desk and a chair and table. The bathroom area also worked well. It had storage room under the sink, supplied toiletries and the shower had both a rain shower head and a hand held shower head, both of which had good water pressure. As we had a lot of rain during our stay and one of us didn't feel 100% on the weekend we spent more time in the hotel room than we usually would so that choice worked out well. We found our 6th floor room very quiet and the bed quite comfortable.

The reception area on the first floor had a sitting area and toilet facilities. They supplied breakfast with bread and spreads but there was also other foods such as hard-boiled eggs, cheese and salad materials and you could use the sandwich toaster to make breakfast. Staff-made coffee was available during breakfast too. The elevator was very spacious and serviced all six floors and basement. Staff were very welcoming and when I turned up an hour early our room was made available to me. The daily house keeping kept everything very clean. They offer free luggage storage in a secure room which we used on the final day. Megaboom was a perfect spot for us to stay in Sydney.

Room: very dark and small, can’t walk around the bed as the space between the bed and the wall is less than a foot plus tv is hung on very same wall. Be ware there are no shaving points, full length mirror, cotton buts/pads, I would except that for the price I have paid (£164 per night).
WiFi - no WiFi in the room, even tho it’s advertised as a facility. It’s only available at the reception. When raised the issue staff was not forthcoming fixing the problem.

Breakfast: coffee and toast. But be ware, if you leave it a bit late, all bread will be gone, they only buy one loaf of each bread. If you get 2 guys serving you, you are in lack if it’s a girl good luck getting your coffee or toast right. Lol

Overall would never recommend it. We are well traveled people and we stayed in various hotels from 1 to 5 stars and this one is the worse so far.

Rooms don’t look nothing like on a website - they are much much smaller and very dark.

This is a good value property considering it's position. Room was small and odd shaped, but worked fine for our one night stay. It still fitted a king size bed and had everything we needed. It even manages to squeeze in a work desk.

Despite the size of the room, the bathroom was a reasonable size with a large walk in shower. We were taking a cruise and this was the only accommodation walking distance from the terminal at a reasonable price. It was about a 20 minute walk, mostly flat.

We were on the 6th floor (top) and we only picked up the slightest noise from the trains below, certainly nothing that would disturb us. Bed was very comfortable and we slept well.

Staff, although efficient, didn't show much warmth and were lacking in smiles or greetings.

No cancellation, No refund and no refund we booked for 23/03/2020 on the 22nd the Govt announced a total lock down we phoned and cancelled as everything would be closed I spoke to the manager who did not care and was not interested in what I was saying and just said no refund. My wife and I are an elderly couple on the age pension and feel as this was an exceptional occasion some kindness could have been shown. We will make sure we avoid this cold hearted hotel.

There are so many reasons not to stay here:
1. The train runs right under the hotel - it’s loud and the entire hotel shakes when a train goes by. They let us switch from the 3rd floor to the 5th floor which helped a little but we could still hear the train making it hard to sleep.
2. WiFi signal is not good. It kept cutting off.
3. Location is in the central business district which is a soulless business area which has nothing to do for tourists. Restaurants around the area are not great and close early and are closed during the weekend.
4. The hallway when you walk in from the street always reeks like cigarette smoke.
5. The cleaning could be improved. There was a dirty towel from the previous guest when we checked into our room and the bed sheets had stains on them.

This hotel was a mega disappointment. I do not recommend staying here.

Following a phone call with Tony at Megaboom today I am happy to advise the rebooking of a non refundable reservation has been satisfactorily resolved. Additional room charges for 10 months in advance are not unexpected and I understand...no fee to do so and rates are still highly competitive. Having stayed here before I am all good with the outcome . Big all out to TONY...thank you...he sorted it professionally, quickly and a good outcome for everyone.

This hotel is very central and excellent value for its location. It's a 10 minute walk from St James Station or 5 minutes from Town Hall Station. The street level entry is well signed, then you go to reception on the first floor. Check in was very efficient and staff were helpful when my flight was delayed due to weather. I was upgraded to a premium king room from a regular king room. The rooms are fine, if small. They're good for one person, would be a bit tight for two. I had a good, large bed that was very comfortable, and the other furniture was solid and functional. eg there's a small table tucked into a spare space with a comfortable padded stool tucked under it. The wardrobe is small but has enough hanging space plus spare blankets, pillows etc. The bathroom was a good size and the shower excellent. It was very much in the style of an Asian mid-range hotel, it just happened to be in central Sydney. There's a good cafe near the entrance for breakfast.

Yes, we had to do a credit card deposit - they were very clear about it, and charges were reversed no problem after checkout. We booked via a different website and I can't recall if we were required to confirm but I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you REALLY want to contact them, I found this email in my records: sales AT megaboomhotel PERIOD com PERIOD au (sorry, TripAdvisor won't let me post the actual email). Credit card surcharges are unfortunately quite common in Australia. You just have to suck it up if you want to charge by credit card (we noticed that in some cases restaurant bills would clearly label the surcharge, and in some cases we paid one amount and then the surcharge was added so the credit card charge was higher!!!).

How early? The front desk staff is not available before 7-7.30 in the morning. You cannot enter the hotel premises unless you have the e key. Suggest you call the hotel and find out. Otherwise you may be in a spot. Of course there is a cafeteria across the road that opens early only on a weekday (office working day). You probably can wait there.
