Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Me and my partner arrived in Sydney before check in and the staff were super accommodating and let us use shower, kitchen and luggage storage facilities whilst we waited for check in. We stayed in a private double room on the 6th floor, noise from bar wasn’t ever an issue. Communal bathrooms and laundry room were always clean.

Me and my partner had nothing planned when we arrived so we booked a meeting with Stacey at the Travel Up desk and she helped us plan everything from travel to accommodation and all our activities. Thank you so much Stacey for all your help we appreciate it so much!!!

Food at side bar was delicious and with the offers they have it was a bargain. Kitchen was very busy in peak hours but if you wake up early and cook early in the evening it’s pretty quiet.

Loved our stay, thanks so much hope we can visit again in the future,

Kaz and Lauren !

Over the past 2 years, I have always found myself back at Wakeup! Whether its a short term or a long term stay, I have always felt at home there with the exceptional cleanliness, location, facilities and fantastic staff (shoutout Dev for always going beyond himself to make your stay the best it can be); you'll never be disappointed if you chose Wakeup! Plus you have an amazing cafe next door (Roys Cafe) that you'll never be disappointed with (Shoutout Thali for the A1 coffee and sarnies every time).

My most recent stay there was July 2020 and they had exceeded my expectations when it came to safety surrounding COVID measurements; increased deep cleans, reduced room numbers and sanitise stations throughout! Exactly what you want to see with the ongoing crisis.

Over my travels, I found myself staying at both the Byron Bay and Bondi Wakeup's and they are just as amazing as the photos and reviews show! An amazing company that know what they are doing when it comes to running fun, clean and homely hostels!

I stayed in this Hostel for several weeks, eight to be exact. Due to needing a convenient and affordable place at short notice I decided to see what all the hype was about. If you’re looking for the two most important things, cleanliness and staff that will go the extra mile then Wakeup cannot be faulted. Especially with the events of COVID-19 going on, I was made to feel not only safe but valued as well despite there being many guests at one time. All the staff were approachable but I feel the need to single out Angelika (I think that’s how you spell it ). You can tell she generally wants to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible and was never put out if you had a small request as I don’t like to a cause a bother. She made me feel like I was a valued guest which for me is priceless and I was impressed she always remembered my name, as I can only imagine how many people she must check in on a daily basis. I’m usually one to find fault in things, but on this occasion I cannot.

Thankyou Wakeup , I will be back!

I mean, is the perfect hostel if you are in your early 20s. But if you are not you will not enjoy your stay here: rooms smells bad as there is no ventilation and windows cannot be open. The hostel has so many rooms that the bathroom are not cleaned with the frequency it should be due to the number of people staying in this hostel. Location is convenient, close to everything. I would not stay here again. I have stayed in lot of hostels and I rather like the ones that have more like a family atmosphere. This one is not the case...

Hi rtokyo, Thanks for reviewing your stay and sorry to hear that we were not the hostel for you on this occasion. We are a very large hostel, one of the largest in Australia in fact and with the huge focus we place on our activities/parties we do tend to get a younger crowd. We understand and are accepting of the fact that this is not for everyone. In terms of our cleanliness we spend a great deal of time and energy ensuring that our property is always looking the best it can be. Our contract cleaning company cleans the bathrooms three times a day and cleaners are onsite 24 hours a day should any accidents happen. I can assure you that we react very quickly when notified. Thanks again Dev Penney - GM

I’ve stayed at Wake Up for over five months, and it was the best time of my life! The staff is super friendly and always willing to help you 24/7, kitchen is clean and there is a lot of space to cook, bedrooms are big and clean (housekeeping cleans every day) and there’s a lot of space to chill and meet other travelers. The hostel has a cafe and a bar, both with friendly staff and delicious food and drinks!
Central station is a few minutes walk and from there you can go to all nice places Sydney has to offer. There’s a supermarket 5 minutes from the hostel and various places where you can buy dinner.
Wake Up! Sydney has been a second home for me, when I can, I would definitely come back! ❤️

Very expensive for being a hostel, rooms are tiny and every time someone is moving you can hear it. Fire alarm starts to make terrible noise in the middle of the noon. One of the elevators was broken so the waiting for the other one was around 5 minutes every time.

Hi Mattia_solari88 Thanks for taking the time to review your stay and please accept my apologies that it was not as good as it should have been. We are currently down an elevator and realise that this is incredibly frustrating for all. Unfortunately we are waiting on a bespoke part from Thyssenkrupp Elevators in Germany and hope this will arrive soon. Apologies again if the fire alarm test woke you up during the day earlier this week. We are mandated by the City of Sydney to conduct a full alarm test each month and generally do this in the middle of the day when most guests are out. Cheers and thanks again for your feedback. Just want to write a quick one to big up Stacey on her tour planning skills!

I'm the kind of guy who doesn't plan or research but I do have the capability to turn up on time (most of the time). Stacey knows this route in and out naturally of course with her job role, but as shes done it herself a couple times, has first hand experience with what's good and how long is needed in each place.

She asked me a few probing questions to get a feel for what I wanted to get out of my trip and with the answers planned everything and as I booked everything together applied a bundle discount.
As you can see from the planner below, it's super easy to follow even for an unorganised person like me. All the vouchers and extra reading collateral were provided to me in a plastic wallet. I just have to show up on time.

Additionally, Stacey went above and beyond on the actersales because I wanted to make an amendment to stay in Byron Bay an extra night and take one from Brisbane. I had a quick call with Stacey and she handled all of the work to make the change with the hostel.

Having a blast so far and excited for the rest of my trip!

Nice one Stace!!!!!! 😁😀🤙

Andy

The hostel is in a great location, next to the train station and a short walk away from Darling Harbour.

Every staff member I spoke to were very friendly and helpful, especially Viviana who helped me on many occasions, including editing my booking to keep the room I liked.
She is bubbly and always a pleasure to speak to. Any problems I had she dealt with with no fuss.

Would definitely stay again.

Couldn’t recommend Wake up sydney hostel enough, I have stayed here multiple times since I first arrived 2 years ago - over 400 days in total. The place is cleaned frequently throughout the day, Dotti the housekeeper manager is always making our rooms look nice and clean. I would also like to mention the 2 receptionists Angelika and Beatriz who have the best customer service and have been sorting out my reservations and always going the extra mile to help me out. They have a lovely cafe attached, Jess the barista is super friendly and makes the best coffee I have ever had. I recommend anyone who comes to Australia after COVID or is already here to come check out for yourself!

About the room, everything was fine and clean. Same about the bathrooms and showers. If I rate 3/5, it's about the kitchen... Utensils are much too dirty, the cutlery is indeed the customers' fault but the pots and pans must be changed. The bottom is scratched, burned, everything we cook sticks even if we use fat. It is hyper carcinogenic to cook with such utensils... Also, the hours are too restrictive: closed from 2 to 3 pm (the time when most people eat), maybe you should close the kitchen from 3 to 4pm? Same for the evening... it's really a pity.
Apart from that, the staff at the reception is adorable!
