Room is lean but small. There is no secure safety deposit in the room..safety deposit is via reception via sealed envelope in hotel safe. Wardrobe space is minimal and not full drop for dresses etc. free wifi is pathetic and drops out regularly when trying to connect to the internet/emails. Pool is very small ...more communal bath and accessed via reception and therefore egress is via reception. Good location for access into city via rail link but room very noisy with traffic on the road outside with motorcycles roaring up the road. Maclaey road is ok but at the top descends into backpacker world with tattoo parlors and erotic shops/clubs. Good variety of restaurants close by the hotel

We originally looked at booking one of the more expensive glitzy hotels closer to the Harbour Bridge but liked the sound of the Mcleay Hotel which was a more affordable price. We were not disappointed in any way. The Hotel is in atmospheric almost Bo-Ho area of Sydney surrounded by an array of lovely shops, cafe's and restaurants with a supermarket very conveniently situated almost opposite.
The staff were all amazing, so friendly and helpful with a special mention to Paulo who organised our room checkout the night before and also for a 3:45am cab to pick us up. All went absolutely perfectly. While our room was perhaps a little dated it was spotlessly clean, roomy and had everything we needed for our stay including microwave, hotplate, fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster and all the cutlery and utensils you might need. Bathroom had a lovely powerful shower with instant hot water. Bed was really big and comfortable but by far the best thing for us was the view from our window. We had booked a Bridge and Harbour view (room 710) and were not disappointed in any way. The view was great and we could sit in bed looking out across not only the Harbour, Opera House and Bridge but the city buildings and hotels which at night are all lit up.
An added bonus is that the 311 bus that takes you into the city can be caught right opposite the hotel and drops you off literally on the doorstep on the return.
If however you want to walk to the Opera House and harbour it is a lovely walk that only takes about 40 minutes and takes you through the beautiful Botanic Gardens.
For us this hotel was just perfect and we would have no hesitation in staying there again should we return to Sydney one day.

The staff at the Macleay were very friendly, knowledgeable of our surroundings, and accommodating to our requests. We stayed there in April and then again at the end of our trip in May and on both occasions we were able to occupy our room ahead of check-in. The room was very comfortable and had everything that we needed. The hotel is in a good location and the view that we had was fantastic. We definitely will be back on our next trip to Sydney !!

We stayed one night here, it was quite uneventful, in a good way, we checked in at 7 pm which went smooth, the front desk was a little over efficient and slightly officious, however due to co-vid, we suppose this has become the norm.

We were upgraded to the harbour view which was nice, the studio apartment was quite roomy and the stand out was how clean it was immaculate, not a thing out of place.

The queen bed was a little firm for us, however OK, for one night.

The standout for us was the price, a little over 100 bucks, and the upgrade, (the view was astounding), alone worth 5 stars.

My second stay there, I had really liked the hotel and the neighborhood the first time, and I wasn't disappointed. Had booked for New Years, and my room was on the 9th floor, overlooking Sydney Harbour bridge and on NYE they opened up the roof terrace for the view of the fireworks, it was the perfect place to watch it.
This hotel will make you feel welcome and the staff will do their utmost to make sure you have a very pleasant stay.
As a side note, when I stayed there in March 2018, Wendy was very helpful, and I was very pleased to see her again this time.

The staff at The Macleay Hotel were absolutely amazing!! We came to Sydney to show at an art fair, they kindly received and stored my extra packages before we arrived and then went above and beyond during our stay, they were so helpful and supportive. Thank you to Cyrus and your team! We stayed for 8 nights and the room was exactly what we needed, spacious, sunny, clean, the kitchenette was great and we had a beautiful view over the tree tops. The location is also excellent, the metro and bus stop across the road, lots of delicious restaurants and Kings Cross station an easy 10 min stroll away - which is only two stops to Bondi Junction or a few stops into the city. It's also a very pretty area with lots of trees and a nice walk down through the botanical gardens to the harbour. It was great value for money. We will definitely come back and stay again next time we come to Sydney. Highly recommended!!

Needed a quick feed, popped into the Maclean Hotel. Great menu. Opted for the BBQ Beef n Bacon Burger..Take Away...a good and tasty burger served with a serve of chips..the burger was a bit small for $18.00.. however it was served in a Polystyrene container. I thought we had moved away from Polystyrene..

We stayed 4 nights visiting Sydney in winter. The hotel was comfortable and very clean. The premices are old but very well maintained. The kitchen is small but has everything you need to prepare breakfast or a simple meal. Cannot beat the location - Potts Point is a charming historical neighborhood with a friendly vibe and the CBD is easy bus drive away or you can even walk there. The only negative was the noise from the elevator (lift) as our room was right next to it but it gets quieter at night when nobody uses it. A special thank you to Roberto at the reception - we arrived early morning after landing from Canada and were able to have the room earlier than normal time - much appreciated after a long flight. And he provided a few useful tips for us to get around. Definitely recommend the Macleay for anyone visiting Sydney who do not want to spend a fortune at a big chain hotel

We had a really nice stay at Macleay hotel! Our room was perhaps a little old, but everything was very clean so we didn't mind the kitchen corner being a little old. The location is excellent, Potts point is a beautiful part of Sydney and not too touristy, there are actual residents too and not just hotels. Also there is a grocery store directly across the street and tens of cafes and restaurants within 700 metres. Easy walk to the subway, or even easier to take the bus (bus stop directly in front of the hotel). Only minus is that the street noises carry to the rooms quite easily, but I think it is understandable because the location is so center.

All the hotel workers were super nice and polite, and helped us to find different walking routes.

Also a fun fact if you love animals, cockatoo parrots fly by this hotel a lot! We could see them from our room window every afternoon.

Hi, do you have parking and if so, what are the prices? Thanks

They do have a basement parking and when you reserve a room, they will email you this: LIMITED CAR PARK - Available at a cost of $30 Sun - Fri and $40 Sat. Parking on Saturday is on a first come - first served basis. We are unable to 'Hold' or 'Book' parking spots. If parking is unavailable on arrival we will direct guest to Kings Cross car park, which is a 5-7 minute walk from the hotel.

Hi Goingto W, to navigate Sydney is really easy. I used Google Maps which has bus & train schedules in-built. Once you reach the airport, get the Optus SIM card ($10 prepaid for a week) and you can get 1GB data per day if I'm not mistaken. Just enable location services on your iPad and you are set to explore Sydney to your heart's content. Just don't forget to save your hotel location so that you can come back and not get lost.. : )
