Detailed Reviews
Rooms were clean and cool, new bathrooms en suite. Great proximity to Circular Quay, historic sites, restaurants and pubs in the Rocks. Front desk staff very helpful! Visiting with tourist group from USA and staff was able to help us stream an NFL game and even use projector. Would recommend bringing detergent as laundry can be $10. Good views of harbour from patio.

Hi John - great that your group had a good visit to Sydney and the hostel. Hope you got time to check out the 360 degree harbour and Opera House views from our rooftop terrace, or maybe joined in our of our regular guest activities up there. It is a terrific spot at this time of year. Hope to see you again in the future.

This place is highly recommended if you are looking for a decent hostel in downtown Sydney where you can get a private room with attached bathroom.
This is located in the rocks so you have a lot of bars and restaurants around the area. You can reach the opera house in 10 minutes by foot.
My favorite part is that you have an amazing view of Sydney opera house from the rooftop as well as the CBD.
Cool and friendly staff! Great value for money!

Thanks for staying, and that view is pretty special! We are actually the only hostel in this part of Sydney - a bit different from the swanky hotels that are the other option in the Rocks. Hope to see you again soon.

This hostel is fabulous. It’s location on the Rocks is amazing and the view from the rooftop terrace is breathtaking. We had a triple room with a double and single bed. Bedding and towels were provided and there was a tv, kettle and tea and coffee. The en-suite bathroom was massive with a very high pressure shower. The room was immaculately clean and in essence is a hotel room. It is right next the the Shangi-la and Four seasons hotels and our room shared the same amazing view of the the Opera House at a fraction of the cost of our neighbours staying at the hotels.
Great facilities throughout the hostel with very friendly staff.
Amazing value!!

I booked a last minute one night stay with YHA and instantly wanted to stay longer. The staff were second to none, helping in any way possible. The entire hostel was super clean and really modern! The hostel was honestly more like a hotel in my eyes. The bedrooms were so roomy - normally so many beds are squashed into one room with barely any space for your bags. They not only had plenty of floor space but huge lockers at the end of the beds. The bathroom was like something from a hotel, with a huge shower! The food provided at dinner time was delicious and HOT, clearly freshly made and really a decent price. The kitchen facilities were amazing. Normally you are fighting for space in the fridge but there was no issue here. The outdoor balcony and roof top terrace where beautiful! The views of Sydney at night where unbelievable. This was by far the best hostel I have ever stayed in.

I purchased an “e-pack” for YHA which gave a great price for a private/family room (under $100 per night). Unfortunately I don’t think they do this option anymore but they still allowed me to extend the date on the e-pack after not being able to use it for a while because of Covid restrictions. I normally wouldn’t stay in Sydney with my family because it is so expensive but the YHA was affordable. It was totally safe and clean. We had a family room with 2 bunks and a double bed and ensuite. There was plenty of room and the beds were comfy. Having the kitchen facility was great as we could self cater for breakfast and other meals if we liked. The location was great very close to public transport at circular quay. We had no issues with noise although there are probably not as many young people as usual due to covid travel restrictions. Still, the rooms seem well insulated. Staff friendly. Would definitely stay again.

We have stayed at this hostel at the Rocks numerous times when we visit Sydney, on this trip we stayed twice...flying in and flying out of the Country.
The hostel is an easy walk downhill to Rocks and easy walk to Circular Quay. Lots of places to see, travel from, eat and drink.
We had a private room with en-suite shower and view of Opera house and Quay.
The rooms were quiet no noise at all.
To get around Sydney rail and ferries we bought local travel cards which was overall cheaper to get about.
There are various posters around hostel advertising local deals and hostel meal deals, for example Australian Bar does 10% off with YHA and there is food a couple of nights a week on the terrace. Also for the transport card a second journey on a Sunday is free. So we walked the bridge to Kirribilli for breakfast and ferry back to Circular Quay, then took the afternoon ferry return to Manley free.
There are people of all ages staying at this hostel, families, older people, as well as younger people travelling, though this is not a noisy backpacker hostel.
Staff were friendly and helpful. You can buy breakfast at the hostel or the nearest supermarket is now at Wynyards Station downstairs.
Would certainly stay here again.

We are really glad you enjoy staying with us and thanks for the informative review. With the Opal travel card you used, on Sundays you actually only pay $2.80 for the whole day - so terrific value to get around Sydney and see as much as you can! We run guest activities most days - so next time, join in and meet some people from around the world. See you again soon.

Very helpful front desk staff. I had reserved the wrong YHA and they were so wonderful in fixing this for me. Lots of great facilities and general areas. Lovely kitchen and lounge area.
Room was well set up with bunks, lights, individual Power point and lockers with another PowerPoint inside. Bathroom was also comfortable. My only concern was with the ventilation in the room. There was literally none! The info basically says to open a window but as it was raining out this was not an option. To get any sort of air con you have to arrange specifically with reception. This was a bit tricky though as some people in the room were already asleep so I couldn’t check with them if this was ok to set up and I as trying to be very quiet and considerate of other guests in a shared space.
I don’t feel the heat that much and I come from QLd which is super hot but I found this room extremely hot and sticky and quite smelly with no air flow at all! With covid still a threat and ventilation one of the most important things for controlling the spread in buildings I really don’t think it’s responsible to have shared rooms entirely unventilated. I understand environmentally trying to avoid air con use when possible and I only use my a few days a year at home but please put in some fans! Or have air con that can be controlled from the room when needed.

Our family of 5 stayed here and we were so pleased. We had our own room and private bathroom. The facilities were clean, the staff was super helpful, they have a cofe serving cappuccinos :) the lounge and kitchen area are very large and they offer multiple discounts, tours and dinners. The view from the rooftop lounge area was our favorite. Great proximity to the bridge, harbour and opera house.

Location is excellent, the view is fantastic. Prices are affordable especially if you plan to spend most of your time outdoors.
The AC is centralized for the whole building, so don't expect any in your room even if you request for it.
Check the sheets before you lay on the bed, housekeeping doesn't do a good job but the Frontdesk staff on duty can be very helpful.

HI - no I'm afraid the double/twin rooms are really meant for two people, but we can fit a cot in them. 2 adults and 2 children need to use the family room which as the proper number of beds for the number of people.
Hi - sorry to correct the previous respondent, but that is not true! Hostel reception staff are more than happy to help you book tours - whether you are staying at the hostel or not. Just ask! There is also a whole range of tours on our website - look under the Tours and Experiences tab at the top of the home page. You can enquire from there or there is a Chat function where you can talk to someone about it more.
Hi - bookings made direct to YHA (for instance through our website) can be cancelled up to 24 hours before arrival. Exceptions would be special packages etc that have been marked as non refundable. Bookings made on other websites are subject to the cancellation policy stated on our hostel listing on that site - which is pretty easy to check. Hope that helps, but if in doubt call the hostel directly and have a chat with them.
