Perfect central location with easy access to basically everything. If you want a cool aesthetic hotel to post cool, hipster social media content, this is the place for you. With eateries like AP Bakery, Poly and Paramount Coffee Project literally in the same building, you can't go wrong.

But if want more than that. Like say, peace and quiet, a decent night's sleep, a good quality shower, FORGET ABOUT IT.

We paid $850 bucks for two sleepless nights due to street noise, garbage trucks, hoons, people coming and going, slamming doors, noisey air conditioning and loud conversations. The most awful shower I've ever had in my life. I didn't know it was possible to simultaneously not get wet and nearly drown. Water everywhere but where you want it to be. I ended up having to finish washing my hair in the vanity sink to get the shampoo out. Sparse rainwater style shower head is stupid and impractical. Most places have dual showerheads so you can change depending on what you're doing. Impossible to shower without getting your face and hair wet. The lighting is awful. If they want ambient mood lighting, put it on a dimmer. Very little natural light and every mirror is positioned under a down light which made it nearly impossible to apply makeup and get ready.

The aesthetic doesn't make up for how bad the actual hotel is. For the money, stay at Crystalbrook on Albion St.

I stayed here for 4 nights in a loft room which was a lot smaller than I expected.
A narrow room with a small balcony and mezzanine level bed.
Design is quirky, sometimes clever, sometimes just weird. There is no bathroom, the vanity is in the main living area as is the wooden bath. The only private area is the toilet.
There is no cupboard to hang clothes but a few hangers to suspend your clothes in the main area.No area to put away your shoes or luggage.
This stripped back style might look good to designers but on the whole it was pretty annoying. Iron, ironing board are communal and need to be accessed in the hallway. Ok but not at $400 a night.
Bed area is very minimal but a comfortable bed.
Staff are polite but certainly don’t go out of their way to help.
No offers of assistance with luggage, no greeting, no offer to organise transport.
Good location but rooms can be noisy at night.
All up, nice enough.

Ani and the rest of the staff (sorry I don't know your names) were all so friendly and welcoming. Loved : the skylight above our bed; the texture of the French bed linen; reading on the cushion on the balcony when it was bathed in sunlight; the wooden bath tub; the comfy lounge; the decor and furnishings; the thoughtful gesture of providing a bottle of fresh water with a slice of lemon or orange in it every evening; the use of refillable toiletries; the Wes Anderson lift. Thank you for the anniversary chocolate. Yum! The weekend was a perfect way to celebrate the end of lockdown!

The personal touch was good, complimentary drinks on arrival, Aesop toiletries & fresh sparkling water with orange slices in our room everyday but the cleanliness was very disappointing. The shower was filthy & despite requesting that it be cleaned & told it was while we were out the same gunk was still on the shower floor tiles when I showered upon my return from being out & about. I found the timber floors grubby & parking inconvenient & expensive. I don’t think I will be staying there again.

Paramount House Hotel was an A+ experience. Friendly staff, great ambience, thoughtful touches throughout. We were traveling with out baby and they had a crib + baby bath already setup for us in the room when we arrived. Chin Chin, Poly and Paramount Coffee Project are all great restaurants you can eat at (either on premise or adjacent) OR order as room service. Great location (walking distance from great parks/shopping as well as public transportation). Truly not a thing to complain about!

We were in an "Everyday" room. Cute little balcony with a window you could open. Loved :the comfy bed (not too firm, not too soft);the soft pillows;the colourful bed linen;the tiles in the bathroom;the industrial taps;the plush carpet;the pretty towels;the Aesop products (glad not to see little disposable bottles of shampoo, etc);the plants;the artistic reading material;the warm welcome from Julia;the automatic blind;the delicious breakfast downstairs in the cafe.

I needed a place to stay at the last minute due to terrible storms/rain and not wanting to drive back to Canberra. My friend from the Australian Design Center recommenced this hotel. She’s always wanted to stay but lives in Sydney! I called and was offered a room and given instructions on how to get to the hotel. From the moment I arrived, I was looked after by front of house. His name escapes me but he was attentive and organized pick up of my dinner from Chin Chin. I got an upgrade and enjoyed time out in my Japanese robe they supplied. The next morning I had breakfast in the cafe and wished I could have stayed longer...unfortunately work beckoned me. Highly recommend this for people who love design, moody and dark interiors.

Somewhat belated review... however, thoroughly enjoyable stay. Really nicely decorated hotel with a great cafe/restaurant downstairs. Lots of excellent Asian cuisine within 5-10 mins walk. A bit off the main thoroughfare so it’s nice and quiet. Daily morning workouts with an instructor was awesome! Purchased a Hawaiian shirt from the hotel store which is now the envy of many :-)

On arrival you are welcomed by very friendly and helpful staff. You are taken to your room and it looks great. It has the wow factor. Then it’s downhill. The cups you are suppose to drink from hurt your hands they are so rough. No top sheet on your bed and the linen feels unpleasant. Everything opposite to clean and fresh. I am sure it is very clean, it is what the linen is made from. Then there is the constant noise, screeching female voices from women standing outside the restaurants across the road, the rattling windows from the wind, and last but not least, the garbage trucks that arrive before 6am and don’t stop arriving, which seems like an eternity. I am sure it’s not, but when you have had little sleep, it did.
The guests are provided with heavy duty earplugs, the rooms as I said look great, however, some thought should have gone into sound proofing them. Double glazing, Lamb glass just something to absorb the noise.
One other down side, there is no parking if you have a car. You are advised to park in Goulburn st car park. Only a few minutes walk, at a cost of $61.00.

Hello there. Thank you so much for staying with us and for taking the time to write a thorough review. It’s great to hear the staff were helpful throughout the stay and that the room presented well. We have chosen French linen sheets for our rooms and most guests have said they’ve loved sleeping in them. We have also chosen ceramic mugs as we believe these bring a more natural and interesting feel to a hotel room. Our apologies for the noise issues you had during your stay. We did have a team of sound engineers work on the property prior to opening and they have approved our rooms as per Australian standards. We are an inner-city hotel in a bustling neighbourhood which means we are subject to some urban noise, though having said that we are continuing to look at and implement additional noise prevention measures. Please get in touch with us at hello@paramounthousehotel.com so we can see if there is anything else we can do to welcome you back to one of our quieter rooms. Parking is always an issue in inner-city Sydney, particularly when you’re working with what’s possible and not possible to house in a heritage building like ours. Goulburn Street’s overnight parking rate is usually $10 so we apologise for however the cost must have crept up for you.

I stayed at this new hotel on business as I'm tired of the cookie cutter main stream big group hotels. On arriving at the hotel the front office person was extremely friendly and most helpful - had a lovely personality. The lobby area was very funky. I checked into my room - a loft room - which on entering was very spacious, very modern with a contemporary, hip feeling about it. On settling into the room for the night with dinner, i went to eat but found there was no table to eat off, so ate off the sofa which was very uncomfortable. On heading to bed, I went to close the curtains to make the room dark in the morning but there was no blackout curtains so was resigned to the fact of being woken in morning by sunlight. The bed was very comfortable, but found it very odd there was only 1 bedside table, no clock and no tv.
In the morning after sleeping very well, went to have a coffee but there was no coffee machine, no coffee bags or coffee sachets only tea bags - very annoying - so no coffee to start my day. Had a shower which was a shower over the timber bath - please get rid of the pump bottle amenities - a property of your lovely standard shouldn't be doing these. Lovely towels, lovely bed linen.
If the hotel sorted out coffee in the room and changed the amenities I'd look to stay again. As mentioned the above is purely my view, the owners have done a great job creating this style of boutique hotel for Sydney - well done; just not for me.

Thanks so much for staying with us and for the thoughtful and honest review. Really appreciate the kind words and feedback, which we will definitely take on board. We completely understand we're not for everyone but should you be interested in staying again we hope this goes some way to explaining why the room was the way it was: - There is a coffee table in all of the Loft rooms as well as outdoor furniture for drinks and food. - Black out blinds are featured throughout all rooms - the switch is either just by the bed or near the stairs. Our apologies that you were not able to locate the switches and so were woken by sunlight. We'll look into a better signage system. - Given Paramount Coffee Project is in the same building as the hotel, our thoughts were that a lot of guests would like to enjoy their morning coffee down there or alternatively order up some coffee to the room. We think this is a better quality and more enjoyable experience than pre-packaged sachets/bags/capsules. - We use large pump bottle amenities from Aesop instead of small individual bottles to cut down on plastics waste.
