One of Canterbury’s best kept secrets. Nestled into the base of the Rakaia Gorge and located on the South Side of the Rakaia Gorge Bridges on the Inland Scenic Route. This camp has a new ablution block with toilets, hot showers and disability facilities. Instead of a kitchen there is a kitchen shelter where you bring your own cookers and equipment.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Terrible rude unwelcoming. The lady who runs this place is horrible , very rude, sour and just a nasty women . Also breaching Covid rules , not wearing a mask a mask and chasing us around the camp ground. We couldn’t find the office as where the sign was there was a car and a camper parked in front of it when we arrived . We ended up leaving after feeling very unwelcome and threaten. Not the kiwi hospitality’ we are used to i suggest heading to a campground in methven . We usually stay at a abisko in the township and the lady that runs this is lovely .

Great camping ground, amazing views over the gorge, short stroll down the track to the river for a swim. Great price at $10 per adult per night, kids free under a certain age. Hot showers, no timer, no extra charge. Quiet and private spots with hedging, highly recommend if you are in the area.

Speed here for a night on our way through. Its a beautiful natural site with well storages pitches and lots of mature vegetation to break the site up. Facilities were immaculate and well appointed. There are neither powered pitches nor the ability to fill up on water (when we visited) so plan accordingly. Highly recommended.

Lovely place to stop and spend the night. Main park had not opened when we stayed but still a good flat area to park. Beautiful sunny morning looking out over the river with breakfast. Kids love the rock down by the river. Many thrown in and a few cairns built. $10 per person very reasonable. Thanks

The camp site is a 'no frills' site with a beautiful quiet location, and lovely views of the Rakaia river on the edge of the site. There is no power hook up, but there is water, showers and toilets. Good value for money.

If you're looking for a campingspot which's above the ordinary, look no further. Awesome view of the lake (if you're early to take one of the divine spots). Kitchen facilities even with a cutting board. Showers with hot water. Toilets cleaner than one of a maharaja. Area/gardening cut to precision greater than one of a surgeon. Hosts as kind as the origin of Kiwi's. And on top of that, 10$ pr. person. Thanks for the stay, we will definitely be back some other time.

This camping ground has an amazing spot on the side of the gorge which is absolutely beautiful. Very cheap, only $20 for one night (2 people in a tent), staff were friendly and helpful giving us a nice shady spot to set up in. Short walk down to river which has stunning light blue water, very cold and a current but very refreshing. There are basic kitchen facilities and free hot showers as well as proper toilets. We were very happy with this spot, definitely recommend!

This campsite is situated next to the Rakaia river and offers amazing views across the wide open landscape. The camp is very charming and the grounds are extremely well kept. There is a small path that leads down to the riverbank. Facilities are simple, but of great value. We paid 10$ per person. Cooking area does not have stoves or cooking utensils. There is no wifi and limited cell coverage. Showers are included and have hot water. Manager is friendly and forthcoming. Overall highly recommended.

Lovely spot perched high over the river. Lovely clean showers and facilities. The manager showed us to our spot. We had a nice private nook, the whole park is nicely laid out for privacy. Walks to the gorge and river right there.

We stayed here on our first night in NZ. We only had one night here although would have loved to stay longer but were constricted by having to get to the only ferry booking we could get near Milford Sound. The site is situated in a lovely spot just above the river, really quiet and peaceful. Loads of great walks straight from the site which was really clean and the owner Vince is sound (he doesn't want you out by 10am like most sites in NZ) and gave good tips on the local area. He is also into conservation and this is reflected at the site. Really recommend this place to anyone
