Quickenberry is a lovely small lodge in a stunning setting high above the Rakaia Gorge with views over rolling country side and towards Mt. Hutt. It is peaceful and quiet giving a feeling of remoteness yet it is only one hour from Christchurch Airport. There are many walks nearby, there is golf and skiing and many other activities. All rooms have all modern facilities; there is a large lounge with open fire, library and cozy dining room.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Couldn’t have been more perfect. The welcome from Christine and Robbie was warm and genuine. The room perfect in every way including the rest of the house which is beautifully decorated warm and homely. Then there is the food which Robbie prepares beautifully. A gastronomic delight. Such a beautiful place to relax. Amazing will definitely be back

We were given a voucher for Christmas.. Given a tour of the property on arrival, including a chance to change our booked room. We stuck with the one we had already booked, the blue room. The room had a view of farm paddocks. Nice to get away from the city life. Took the opportunity to walk around the area of Terrace Downs. Christine gave some useful guidance on a path which gave a view of the gorge. Pre-dinner drinks served outside on a warm evening, and expectations met with Robbie's cooking. Four courses, each superbly presented and very tasty. Nest morning, a continental breakfast was all we needed, despite the offer of a further cooked breakfast available. Thank you both.

Quickenberry and master chef Robbie provide an unforgettable culinary experience in a most beautiful setting, near the mountains, but so close to Christchurch. Both Christine and Robbie are wonderful hosts. I'm buying a bunch of gift vouchers for family and friends as I really can't think of a better or more memorable gift to give. My only 'complaint' to Robbie and Christine was in advice that they didn't charge enough! $390 is amazing value for a stunning 4-course meal, a full breakfast, an awesome setting and beautiful rooms & accommodation.

We had a fabulous stay here. Robbie and Christine are lovely hosts and very easy to talk to. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, there is a library, and the lounge with fire is great for winter drinks and chats. The four course dinners were amazing, beautiful food and presentation. As we were the only guests (sadly last minute cancellations due to COVID), the table was set up by the fire. Made it extra special.

You will be pampered and enjoy good company. The cuisine is worthy of a 5 star restaurant! Away up high near the mountains of Canterbury, this estate has mown grass everywhere with tall and beautiful trees. Next to a Golf Resort with a Gold Course to be proud of - world classs!

Christine & Robert hosted four of us last night at their delightful Quickenberry Lodge. On arrival Christine was very welcoming showing us to our tastefully decorated rooms then served us tea & delicious chocolate cake. We enjoyed pre dinner drinks in their comfortable lounge with Robbie joining us prior to our amazing four course dinner served in the intimate dining room. Wonderful service & company was enjoyed by all! A very special evening & hope to return one day.

A great experience. Christine and Robert were super welcoming and we had plenty to talk about while I was there. The bedroom was classy, with lovely linen, lots of space, rural view, bath in the ensuite. Guests can also use a library and a large lounge with a fireplace. I was the only guest and sat with them for dinner, though they were busy cooking and serving. Robbie cooked a gourmet four-course meal which was perfection. Local ingredients, great presentation and fab flavours. A very special evening thank you

Beautiful location and views. Christine and Robbie are the ultimate hosts. Rooms are the perfect size. The four course meal was divine. NO ONE cooks lamb as well as Robbie. Can not recommend highly enough.

I must say that Christine and Robert know how to make a couple feel at home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with them, and hope to visit again one day. Our room was lovely and had everything we needed to rest and relax during our journey through the Canterbury region. And the meals....ohhhhh the meals! Robert is an award winning chef with a vegetable cookbook everyone needs. His stories, instructions and photos make the purchase worthwhile, even if I don’t try to my hand at the dishes! Ha! Thank you for a most wonderful stay!
