I was expecting more for the 4-star rating. The location is handy but the room, especially the bathroom, was tired and needed maintenance. I stayed 2 nights and would have expected that the rubbish would have been emptied each day and the floor cleaned rather than just providing new towels that I hadn't asked for. The location of reception is a distance away from the rooms, which required a roundabout route to navigate between (and two flights of stairs to carry bags up). I didn't feel comfortable near the reception area, especially with gaming machines on site too. My room was quiet, although my colleague in the opposite 'wing' of rooms could hear the TV in the next room at night, was awakened by a crying baby early one morning, and from people moving around in the corridor on the second morning. Not much parking on-site, we had to park out on the street.

I booked a room ground floor with kitchenette for $150 a night due to a health disability. Arrived and we were allocated upstairs. We never were booked downstairs. The booking clerk on the phone lied because all the ground floor units are taken up with emergency housing tenants. If I had known that I would never have booked but your greed to catch a customer was worth more than customer requirements. Dont do that to your customers! BE HONEST!

My partner has renal failure and used all his energy negotiating the stairs that we couldn't stay at the event we were there for very long. There at 4pm back by 7.30, dinner, bed.

The room was small dark and pokey
Cannabis and tobacco smells came through the air conditioner vent 3x that afternoon and evening.
The bathroom was nice
The bed comfortable and huge. Two king singles pushed together?
My partner witnessed a drug deal go down out the front of the hotel while he was waiting for me to settle our bill upon checkout.

The food was average but nice
Crumbed chicken burger amazing
They had a pool party there so lots of scantily dressed youth passing by our table frequently.

The only reason I didnt lose it was because the two female staff one at the front desk reception and one at the restaurant were very courteous and kind and no one wants a bad day at work but..

Be Honest with your Customers and put their needs first and if you cant accommodate, tell them. We wont be back again. It's not the place a business traveler would want to stay.

I stayed one night on a business trip. Staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. I checked in on a very hot Auckland afternoon and I was very happy to find that the air conditioner had been turned on prior to my arrival so I was able to enjoy walking into a cool room. Little touches of service like that make the difference. Also, I was upgraded from an economy room to an executive room when I checked in, which was nice (having said that though, I'm not sure how much nicer, given that the same photo is used on the hotel's website for both the economy and the executive room).

The common areas of the hotel look a little run down, with worn carpet and paintwork in the corridors, but the room was well maintained and clean. The shower pressure was really good (always a bonus!). The bed in my room was a split king (two king singles pushed together) which is never my preferred bed type. Having said that though, it was comfortable.

I ordered room service dinner which turned out to be a very generous serving and very nice. No complaints there.

The biggest negative for the hotel is the paper-thin walls. Traffic noise from the main road was noticeable through to early evening, and the comings and goings of other guests in the corridor could be clearly heard. Probably not the ideal hotel for a light sleeper or somebody who wants an early night.

Overall though, would I stay again? Sure.

My agent booked me at this Hotel where I've stayed here over the last couple of decades to be close to conferences and meetings hosted in Auckland and always found the location ideal. Unfortunately this time, I arrived during the NZ coronavirus lockdown so the dining room was unavailable to patrons but I liked the refurbished facility and enjoyed the luxury of a great night's sleep on a comfortable bed and in a warm, clean room. Meals were delivered to the room to minimise contact with staff and other guests. Nonetheless I felt at home and appreciated the express checkout. Thanks for hosting me. Be healthy and safe.

Booked a solo trip for an overnight stay to get ready for a meeting in the morning. The booking process was great and a breeze however entering reception at 7pm , stood there waiting while the receptionist just stared at her computer, when she finally assisted me i wasn’t feeling any warmth or welcoming feeling from here , maybe because it’s winter i don’t know .

Anyways to the room , this place is really run down upon walking to my room , every step is a creak , carpets look about 50 years old. When i got into my booked room , it looked like it hasn’t been touched up in years , carpets coming out , and different patches on the floor . Dust on the coffee & tea sachets , rust in bathroom. When i walked over one side of the floor i felt a dip in the floor! Red stains of who knows what . The bed itself was uncomfortable to just sit on and also the bed frame looked like it had a fight with a cat. The aircon gave a off smell when turned on , and the atmosphere itself felt very worn down , i eventually checked out early not even staying the night , i was in there an hour max before i decided to go elsewhere.

On the good end the pool side looks good , but if the inside looks like that imagine what the pool floor and kitchen in the restaurant looks like.

Hopefully it improves and upgrades , it has potential.

We had our wedding here at the Mount Richmond Hotel and it was such a success, even with it being a very small and intimate wedding our event planner Luiz & team went above & beyond and presented a fabulous stunning room for the ceremony/reception and the menu was succulent and delicious. I cannot thank them enough. Included in the package was a night's stay in the honeymoon suite, which was absolutely beautiful, clean and had everything that was needed we were surprised on arrival with a bottle of bubbly & chocolates. If your looking for a wedding venue whether small or big I totally recommend you see Luiz, he is amazing. Or if your wanting somewhere to stay this is the place to be, the Hotel itself is beautiful and clean, there's a gorgeous outdoor pool area, the staff are welcoming and helpful. Overall we had such an amazing experience here at the Mount Richmond Hotel and I'd gladly go back. Thankyou all @ Mount Richmond Hotel.

Paid to stay on the 8th of January with my 4 month old daughter drove up from tauranga was waiting for my partner to fly back the next day from Australia. My daughter and i stayed a total of 2 hours but left because of how bad the conditions of the room. I used booking.com to book my accomodation which is the site i use for all my nz accommodation booking. The pillows i had were stained. I was not aware there was a gaming lounge connected to the base of the establishment which was quite shocking a lot of rough people about and inadequate parking. The entrance reeked of cigarettes and there were people from the gaming area smoking marijuana in the car park. I check in as i needed to put my daughter down i couldnt access the room first time around had to go down to reception to fix. Entering the room they are nothing like the photos taken on the website. My pillows had stains. No rubbish bin. The bathroom floor was still dirty. No toilet brush. There was a disgusting residue inside the water jug provided white crystallized crusted ring inside also the jug outside had dirt on it ! So i couldnt even feed my daughter 2 hours went by and i decided to check out can hear other people stomping around in their rooms. The lady at the front was friendly otherwise alot of ammendments should be made to fix. Should also ban smoking in some areas i didnt expect it to be as rough when you see it on the website.

It was clean and the staff were great. That is it.

The hotel boasts a spa and indoor pool, what they don't tell you is that these are right smack bang in the middle of the outdoor dining area so you are surrounded by diners while you "relax" we didn't even bother which was disappointing as there was a 21st where guests had filled the areas tables this was frustrating as the 21st guests had also taken all of the carparks. The hotel did not inform us that loud music would be played for hours, being so loud we had to leave to get some peace and quiet.
After accidentally spilling a glass of drink on the bed we asked for a room service, the staff had no idea initially where to find bedding so once again we left the motel for food so that they could sort it and told us that we may be charged for the service like wtf!
The main road is loud at night causing restless sleep.
The showers were terrible with myself and my friend experiencing sudden flashes of extremely hot water causing burns.
The twin beds were small and the bedding was mostly sheets, pillows were uncomfortable.
They have a gaming room on-site which has a lot of shady characters standing in the carparks smoking and also using up park spaces.
Would never stay here again as it actually ruined our whole weekend where we intended to relax in the spa and enjoy some quality downtime. It was so bad we were literally hunting for other models to stay at on our second night.
Also don't be deceived by the pictures, it's a very old motel.
Definitely won't be going back.

Looks nice from the outside, staff friendly. In the room it was relatively clean. Requested large double bed was given two single beds put together quite disappointing. air conditioning very loud so couldn’t sleep with it on and walls very thin you can hear everything going on. Pool area a bit run down could do with a revamp. Had food it was nice. Not sure if we would stay again.

The staff were great - friendly and helpful. I was in Auckland for work, returned to the hotel at around 4.30 after a busy day, and hadn't had a chance to eat so was starving. I tried to order room service and they told me the kitchen didn't open until 6pm, but asked the chef for me anyway, and not long after the food showed up at my door, so I was very grateful.

Unfortunately, however, this hotel is really a 3-star pretending to be 4. It was obvious that the room I was in had been updated somewhat (more at a surface level), and it was comfortable and warm, but the walls are thin and I could hear conversations and the TV going in the adjacent rooms as well as loud conversations and phone calls going on in the hallway. The shower was terrible. There was barely any pressure and the temperature would swing wildly from freezing cold to scalding hot without warning. I see others have complained about this here so it seems they haven't managed to resolve it.

The location isn't great for food options if you don't have transport so unless you're happy to order all your meals from the in-house restaurant or have time/want to walk for a bit then food delivery will be required.
