Gorgeous little South Sea Island is one of the treasures of the Mamanuca Islands. Crystal clear waters, coral reefs and thousands of colourful of tropical fish surround the island. No one lives on the island; the only overnight guests are the travellers who find this a great spot to stop off on the way to and from the Yasawas. It's only 30 minutes by ferry from Denarau Marina, so nice and easy! A dorm with a large deck and sun loungers sits atop the open-air restaurant, built with a rustic island theme in mind. You can stand on the beach on one side of the island and watch the sunrise. Later that day walk (for all of a minute!) to the other side to watch the sunset! Pure bliss! It may be small in size, but there is plenty to keep you entertained. During the day, day-trippers visit South Sea Island from Denarau who bring activity and entertainment with them. South Sea Island FijiThere is a salt water swimming pool and non-motorised water sports equipment available free of charge. Take in the underwater world aboard the semi-submersible or get a taste of Fijian culture with a traditional Meke performance and craft market Monday to Saturday. South Sea is a great place to learn to dive. Expert instructors and clear, shallow water ensures your first dives will be memorable. The marine life and coral you'll see will amaze you and if you're up for it, you can take a dive on out to a wreck. Come the evening there is no more tranquil place to be - cold drink in hand, the lapping of the waves the only sound to be heard.

We spent 1 night on the island, it was the first stop on the island hopping tour. It is only a 30 minute ferry ride from Nadi, as your arriving the staff are singing to you. It felt very magical. The island was really amazing and it’s a good start to the trip if you are island hopping. The snorkeling gear is free to use. During the day the island does get a lot of day trippers, but as it was low season it wasn’t that bad. The staff mentioned that during peak season there are usually around 300.

We stayed in the bura, which was beautiful. Very clean, fresh. For us this was the best room out of the islands we visited and about a 5 second walk to the water. In the morning there was a lot of reef sharks swimming close to the shore.

I was satisfied with meals and drinks where reasonable priced. In the evening there was only 8 guests. We all had dinner and then we did crap racing and some dancing after. Overall completely hit my expectations.

Staff were very friendly. I hope to return again one day.

Bula vikkerly Love your review and 5 stars to really top it off - Vinaka! Just in case any reviewers are wondering I really do think Vikkerly is referring to our crab races after dinner. LOL. So much fun from one tiny island and a great description of our stunning absolute beachfront bures, of which there are only three so when traveling to Fiji you dont want to miss this first stop out to the Yasawa Islands with Awesome Adventures Fiji. Look forward to your return Vikkerly - dont forget to book direct so we can offer you our fabulous family and friends returnee rate. Sota Tale (see you again).

Compared to all the other resorts I was on, this one was the least impressive. Still lovely and nice, just the least favourite. Set menu with no options but they will do their best to accommodate at least basic dietary requirements. The activities are plentiful and available during the day but the island is so crowded I left as fast as possible. If I was a group of people looking to be social with other people, this is where to go. But I was solo and wanting peace and quite and this IS NOT THAT PLACE. Sort of. Busy and loud as all get out during the day from about 9 am to 5 pm and then you wonder if you were the only one on the island. When I first arrived I thought it was just the three of us when we got off the boat. There was a totally of 7 people over night.
Dorms are massive barns with many beds. They have ac but we didn't turn it on and it got a bit hot. And frankly I can't imagine it doing much good in that massive barn building.
Bathrooms/showers were clean but limited in the dorm room. If this was a full dorm, you would be having to go downstairs to access more toilets. It appears to have only 2 showers for 28 beds. But I might have missed some downstairs.
Staff was friendly and helpful.
Wifi and data plan were awful. Could load some websites but none of the apps would load. however I think I heard staff grumbling about it too, so this might not be normal.
Tons of activities to do.

Snorkeling here is good if you go about 50 yards out at the top of the island. The tour guides will take you to a nice, safe place, but there's not much to see. There are dead corals near the island, but I don't think it is so much because of the people as it is the warmth of the water. Where the reef drops into the ocean the water is cooler and that's where all the stuff is. If you looked at the island like a clock, where the boats come in is at 12 O'clock, and where all the beach umbrellas and seats are is 3 O'clock. Go swimming just past 3, at the 4 Oclock, and go out about 50 to 70 yards and you'll see it get nice and colorful. If you swim out to where it drops off and the ocean water is cooler you will see an amazing amount of corals and beautiful fish.

Vinaka for the review. There is limited coral close to the shore but we are working on an extensive coral planting program which should help to improve this in the years to come.

After 6 nights in the Yasawa/Mamanuca islands, staying on South Sea was disappointing. The bures are nice and cosy but the island itself are a step down from the other 5 islands we had the pleasure of visiting. It’s nice and close to the mainland, so if you’re staying there, I can see why many people visit. We were only 4 of 6 guests staying overnight (accommodation is very limited) and the dinner served to us was very poor and confusing (was it pasta? Was it a stir fry? We’re still not sure. The “soup” was even worse).

There were times we also felt we were being ripped off - cheaper gin swapped in for what we’d ordered, and after reading about unlimited beer on the day trip package, we’re now wondering why we were charged.

The lunch for day trippers was far better and for kids there is plenty to keep them entertained.

If you have no reference point for the other islands, you will probably enjoy a day trip here. However, I’d recommended getting further into the Yasawas, or at least go to Malamala (also a day trip) instead - you won’t be disappointed.

Bula WA_UK_traveller Thank you for your review on South Sea Island, as it's given me the opportunity to get out from behind my desk & come to enjoy an afternoon & night in paradise. (Brings tears to my eyes when day guests have to leave & the cries of the children not wanting to go). A front row view of a spectacular sunset from our very affordable, absolute Beachfront Bures did not disappoint. The biggest concern I had was your review on the meals, (which is why I just had to stay the night 😁) as it's important to us to ensure we follow up & improve our services. Tonight our guests & I dined on, Cream of carrot soup with a generous serve of homemade garlic bread (gluten free), followed by fresh fish, potato mash & sautéed local vegetables. Then when I thought I couldn't eat any more a healthy serve of fresh tropical fruit with the option of ice cream. Whist South Sea Island isn't a 4-5 star rated island resort, it does offer a true authentic day &/or overnight experience (at very comparable prices, very close to the mainland when matching apples with apples). The true jewel in the crown is the wonderful & entertaining team that really is the epitome of a fantastic way to the start or finish of our Awesome Adventures Fiji holiday packages into the scenic & breathtaking Yasawa Islands. Again, thank you for your review & we are grateful uou came to visit our beautiful Fiji.

Beautiful view from my private beachfront bure. Kele was a gracious host and chef Vikash Chand was fantastic! I was the only one on the island but I’m sure if it was packed, the staff would still make you feel like you’re the only one that mattered.

Vinaka!

We visited the south sea island as part of our holiday package - would definitely recommend if you’re after a more organic island feel.
The beach there is really lovely, there’s a swimming pool, plenty of hammocks and bean bags to relax and ice cream, drinks etc.

Definitely go when the craft market is running as there’s so many beautiful traditional items for sale, we purchased quite a few things - bring cash for this!!

We also checked out the submersible which allowed us to view the ocean from underneath a little boat which was so mesmerising!! We saw heaps of fish which was awesome.

The service here was great and only 25 min boat ride from Denarau Island!

Accommodations was nice and confortable but not that clean as expected. Espacially the bathroom/restrooms. Dorms are nice and tidy.
Breakfast is quite poor and same comment for the dinner. The lunch will increase the food rate thanks to a nice bbq with good meat…

Southsea Island was our favourite day trip while we were in Fiji. The locals put on such a nice show and the water is clean and clear as day. So much to do and very beautiful! I told my single friends to go when they went to Fiji and they also said it was the best day trip experience in Fiji.
