Firstly proximity to the motorway makes this a great place to break your journey. It is unexpectedly quiet with only a low hum of traffic with the window open. As you would expect the food is of excellent quality and both dinner and breakfast were most enjoyable. The service is friendly and efficient and rooms are light, comfortable and clean. What more could you want I will definitely be back.
Stayed en route to Scotland, why can’t All service stops be like this? It just goes to show it can be done if you don’t let McDs and Costa anywhere near the place!! Lovely hotel fantastic staff, Sue in the bar went over and above to make our stay great. Made for travellers that appreciate decent quality and proper service!! Highly recommend
Overall mostly nice staff. No Manager supervision to address any issues you may encounter. Blankets are ripped and torn in Pet Friendly Rooms which is an insult to guests. Time to tidy up please... poor show. Dinner Menu is a 'factory line' and food will arrive lukewarm if not 'cold'......; ( Not Good given their prices are not 'factory like'... Standards are slipping ...
Stayed here for two nights. On the downside: the hotel needs to upgrade its wifi offer as its very slow in the classic bedroom wing with only two "bars"; when checking in on-line the day before my stay, I asked for a light duvet and 10.5 tog is the lightest on offer - will have to bring my own next time as I was absolutely parboiled on the pillow-topped mattress even with the window open and heating off; and they lost out on my having breakfast in the hotel as you had to book the night before - no seeing what time you woke at or what the weather was like for walking. Surely if you only want a continental rather than a cooked breakfast, there could be some latitude? Were it not for these issues, I would have rated my stay as excellent. The hotel's strength is its staff who were uniformly excellent. I ate in the restaurant both evenings and the food was superb. The shop at Tebay Services is only a stroll away and you get a single-use 10% off voucher to spend there. If spending only one or to two nights in Cumbria again, the Westmorland would be my first port of call.…
We arrived on a sunny but cold afternoon to a warm welcome from reception staff. We were shown to our room and had beautiful views over the hills. Later following a drink in the bar with a roaring fire we had dinner in the restaurant. It has been a long time since we have had such good service and delicious food. Thank you.
