This was our last stay after a 6 week tour of New Zealand and was just what we wanted. We had a lovely stay at Mercury Ridge. A beautiful lodge on a steep hill overlooking Cooks Beach. The views were awesome, the peace and tranquility very restful. Tom and Jo are fantastic hosts who made us feel very at home. This is quite an unconventional establishment mixing bed and breakfast rooms with small apartments with lots of shared space both indoors and outside, but it just works. In fact whilst we were there we didn't encounter any other guests and yet they were fully booked. This may be because we booked a later breakfast as we were on wind down and wanted to enjoy the outside space as the weather was beautiful. The decor and fittings are very high quality and there is a lovely ambience created. The rooms were very comfortable and the free mini bar and snacks were appreciated, as was the cheese platter available on arrival. The breakfast cooked to order was awesome, the best in 6 weeks travel, and we loved being able to eat outside in the sunshine, with the most amazing views surrounding us.
The location is excellent as you can visit Cathedral Cove, Hot Water Beach and Whitianga via the ferry at Lands Ending all within a short drive. Beach Towels and basket are provided. There are a number of restaurants recommended all within a short drive. The small village of Cooks Beach is walkable but note the steep hill on return. There are lovely walks along the beach and through the reserve to Shakespeare Cliffs and it is probably best to park near the beach to access.
We would highly recommend a short stay at Mercury Ridge.

We were allowed to spend three unforgettable days in this dreamlike accommodation and can only rave! The rooms are furnished with so much attention to detail that you feel completely comfortable from the first minute. The view is breathtaking – a backdrop that enchants every morning. The hosts are simply fantastic and read every wish from your eyes, which makes the stay especially pleasant and personal. The ambience is a perfect mix of style and coziness, the whole thing is super clean and well maintained. An absolute recommendation for those who want to experience a break in New Zealand with style and warmth. We would definitely come back!

What a fabulous place! We loved our stay at Mercury Ridge. Everything was perfect - the room, the views, and the hospitality. I really couldn’t find anything negative to say.
Tom does a fabulous job with breakfast every morning. The eggs Benedict on potato rosti were fabulous!
We also loved the complimentary goodies in the room, including chocolates, crisis, biscuits and a range of cold drinks, plus the usual tea and coffee.
The views over Cooks beach bay are jaw-dropping and we loved watching the sunrise and sunset each day.
This is truly a special place - just go!!

Beautiful tranquillity. I'd describe this as a Boutique Hotel. It was apparently built in an Italian style as a holiday home with five bedrooms/suites. Positioned on the side of a hill with open views across the bay it is beautiful. The host Jo and Tom are very welcoming. Rooms are very comfortable each making the best of the view with a patio in front.
Place your breakfast order in the evening before and everything is beautifully prepared for you in the morning.
Take the short ferry ride across o Whitianga to find loads of food, shopping and entertainment.

Fabulous location in the hills overlooking Cooks Beach. We were in the Bosun suite which was large and very comfortable - Nespresso machine much appreciated. Breakfast lovely and eaten sitting outside on the verandah. Tom our host very helpful - had spades for going to hot water beach. Tip, aim to get there about 2hours 30mins ahead of low tide so you have pick of places to dig, gets crowded later even when as we did outside school holisays

We just spent six weeks in New Zealand. Mercury Ridge tied for our favorite amongst 16 hosts. The host is an incredible chef. The breakfasts are off the charts and his recommendations for restaurants was perfect. We did have a car at this location and used it, but a lot of activities are within walking distance. The host went out of his way to ensure that every detail of our stay was exactly to our liking. I would highly recommend Mercury Ridge.

I was travelling with family and we stayed in the East Wing and adjacent Lodge Suite. This gave us our own separate 2 bedroom apartment, with a separate entrance. The kitchenette in the East Wing was well appointed, and Tom graciously offered us the use of additional equipment from the Lodge's main kitchen if we needed it. On arrival, we were met with a wonderful Charcuterie Board & a welcome glass of wine after a long drive down from North of Auckland (SH25A was still closed at this point). Tom's breakfasts were great. All the produce was fresh and cooked to order. The views over Cooks Beach were amazing. Toms's local knowledge was invaluable for advising us on where to go and what to do. I cannot recommend Mercury Ridge highly enough for a luxurious stay in the Coromandel.

Arriving onto the property we were pleasantly surprised by not only the great location but the amazing property itself. It overlooks Cooks Beach, beside a boutique winery and a short walk to the best beach in the area. We had the top floor master suite that had complete privacy and expansive windows and deck overlooking the bay. The bed was very comfortable and the small touches like beach towels and complimentary mini bar was a great added touch. Tom our host made us feel welcome and comfortable as we enjoyed the use of the whole homestead - he can also whip up a very delish breakfast. We would highly recommend a getaway here.

My wife and I have been on a 5 week tour of NZ and our recent stay at Mercury Ridge wull be remembered as an experience of the highest calibre.
The B & B, if it can be called that, has been decorated magnificently. No stone has been left unturned in providing an exceptional experience. From the moment we arrived, we were bowled over by every aspect of the property. This is an outstanding property with magnificent views over the bay. The room itself was very tastefully decorated including a free standing bath. Tom was a magnificent host. On arrival, we were greeted with a wine and cheese platter, the mini bar was on a complimentary basis and was topped up daily, breakfasts were of the highest quality and Tom was always available to help book trips or advise on what to do.
Thank you Tom for making our stay as one of our highlights of our trip

Fantastic and spotlessly clean accommodation with amazing views. Jo organised our booking for a lovely lunch and wine tasting at the winery next door. Tom greeted us on arrival and answered our questions about the local area. A breakfast with a wide choice was prepared and served by Tom and his dad John. We had a wonderfully relaxing stay and can’t recommend Mercury Ridge highly enough.
