Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Had a lovwly stay at the brimar guest house. The service was brilliant. The staff were very friendly and the lady that runs it. Well nothing was to much trouble. Even when we had to go back because my daughter left her phone charger there. Would definitely stay again if the need arose. Breakfast was plentiful and lots of choice

Relative to the room price, this is a very well-run and highly recommended establishment.

A range of rooms available - some en-suite. My room was spotless, very well maintained and equipped with all the basics I needed including TV, fresh towels every day etc.

Small, safe car park to the rear - it can only accommodate about 15 cars so first come first served. 5 - 10 minute drive into Southampton.

Well-equipped guest kitchens in each building - though can only be used by guests until 9pm.

Breakfast is freshly cooked, served by friendly staff - though only available 7.00 - 8.15 weekdays.

I would certainly recommend this guest house.

Have visited this B&B twice now and both times have been fab! As a lover of the New Forest it is perfect and in a great location for easy access to explore. It is also very handy and good location so can easily and very quickly get to Southampton, especially West Quay for shopping, as both times I have gone to do my Christmas shopping! Rooms are very clean and spacious enough, with the added benefit of being able to use the guest kitchen to make lunches/dinners. The price is brilliant and the breakfast so filling it keeps me full for the whole day. Can't wait to visit again!!

Although clean with a good breakfast, this B&B is more a backpackers hostel. We chose it as it had Internet, parking and breakfast. Internet did not work from Friday to Monday and parking was first in only. It was very noisy both from road and other residents. Surrounding area was industrial and restaurants weren't very good. Really disappointing experience.

Found on line last minute to come to Southampton to see the three Queens arrive for the Jubille, warm welcome lovely clean room nice and quiet and a fab breakfast in the morning. Great value for money and we were shocked it is only 2 star, should be 3! :-) would definitely stay again.

cancelled my booking as bathrooms are shared and sullen receptionist. i asked a few questions and it was all just too much for her to answer civilly. I had bought flowers to put in the bedroom as a welcome for my friends and she said she couldnt guarantee they would be placed in the room and didnt believe they had a vase to spare

I left it last minute to book somewhere for local Moto cross event , I wasn't disappointed with this find .
Single room had everything I needed , good en-suite , tv and comfy bed .
The welcome on arrival was very friendly and helpful , explaining all about guest house and local area . I would defiantly recommend this guest house and would stay again . Thanks Adela and team .

We were greeted by the man at reception who was friendly but things went downhill when we got to our room after traveling 2 hours we found there was no provision to make tea, heating wasnt on even though the man at reception came and adjusted the thermostat it still didnt come on freezing cold in the morning ,got woke up. 2 oclock in the morning by people shouting ouside room banging doors although no thought of the owners ,only plus side was there was plenty of parking but to be charged 90 pounds far to much for what we got should be alot cheaper but saying that I wouldn't stay here free of charge definitely the worst Guest house I have stayed in.

Response from Peter D, Manager at Brimar Guest House
Responded 25 Oct 2016
I am so sorry you had problems. We have 2 guest kitchens fully equipped with free tea and coffee making supplies. I am told you were made aware of these when you checked in. We had no other guests mention the heating and when checking it next day we did not find any problems. Perhaps you turned the radiator control in your room off instead of on? The price you paid was for 2 people and included free parking, free breakfast and wifi, much less than most larger places. Sadly some guests do not respect other guests and make noise, our night porter will certainly visit them if he is made aware of noisy guests. We have hundreds of great guest reviews and we are very sorry to have yours.

Positives : Bed, Fair for Money

Cons : Communal Bathroom / Toilet, Noisy, Breakfast finishing at 8.30am

It was ideal for 1 night. A bit peeved that I missed Breakfast as I assumed that this would still be available at 8.45am.

We stayed here for a night, I found the staff to be friendly enough but cold at the same time. Our room was on the ground floor which was twin share. The room was tidy but the bed felt like you were sleeping on a sea saw with a big lump in the middle. I was scared I would fall out. We had people come in at 1am drunk and banging and yelling which carried on till 4. Breakfast was average but the place seemed not too safe. Wouldn't stay there again
