What a gem of a find. We weren't sure what to expect, although it did look nice from search. What beautiful accommodation, great food and fantastic hot springs (open 24 hours) and the location was magic, especially if you enjoy hiking or just getting away from it all. We would highly recommend this resort.

Hotel's Favourite
We came home from Perth for Xmas and treated ourselves to the 1 night indulge package and kicked myself when I hesitated booking 2 nights if not more if time allowed. We simply had a wonderful time and left sad that it ended but feeling relaxed, re-vibed and reflective. The pools are a part of the place but the layout, staff, location and scenery just make it that much wow and wonderful. We did the Sauna infusion in the afternoon and I did a second the following morning and am now a fan, to the point of looking at a sauna and installing a cold shower in the back when we get home lol. The meals were delicious, healthy and well portioned, along with the natural drinks as well as wines etc. The king room was awesome and a view just breath taking, with a deck to take it all in, and a great bathroom with nice lighting, personal robes etc, blockout curtains and a bed that makes the whole experience a bliss. Special mention to Char for preparing the room but also Max who was a legend outside and in the place and a great ambassador to what the place is achieving, our only gripe would be to have time for the place to be adults only, but this did not dampen our experience and commitment to return whenever we come back home, do yourself, mind and body a favour and checkin to check out

Surpassed our expectations!! Great weekend with great food, amazing location deep in the river valley, added health benefits and company of like minded people. It’s great that most things are included in the price of accommodation - sauna, yoga, hot pools, dinner and breakfast.

I took my partner to Maruia in early November 23 as a treat to celebrate her birthday. Overall, the experience was wonderful. A natural setting with many additional spa / sauna / treatment options included in the price if you elect to stay the night. The yoga was great, as was the sauna / face and body mask treatment. If there was one criticism it would have to be the size of the meals. Our package included one night's stay with a three-course dinner and breakfast the following day. On to the meals.... for dinner, you had two times to choose from. Either 6pm or 8pm. We chose soup as our entree which was probably big enough for three mouthfuls. The main consisted of the beef cheek (which we chose) .....minimal size again, no potatoes or substantial veges. That was quite disappointing. The desert was again very small. One little slither of cream with a handful of rhubarb. I ordered a side of mushrooms for my breakfast the following day costing an extra $5.00. I think I ate those in about 3 seconds! The quality of the food was beautiful; however, the portions were extremely small and probably should be reviewed by management. Overall, the Maruia experience is an 8/10....however if they want to make it a 10/10 then please review the size of meals which would make a big difference considering the price they charge to stay for a package deal.

We booked a day trip that included lunch, sauna infusion and hot pools. The hot pools were in a natural setting, black rock pools and sitting on rocks - there were sand flies around, and insect repellant was provided, but they were a bit annoying. The sand flies may be worse in summer - not sure. There are about four pools of different temperatures. The sauna infusion session was great and included a plunge in a cold pool. Lunch setting was great but the food was disappointing. There were five options on the menu, two were not available. The chicken teriyaki was advertised with steamed vegetables, but there was only broccoli included and it was cooked too long, definitely not steamed. There were three dessert options, only two available. Coffee was extra. Lentil salad was OK, served with chickpeas as lentils were not available - salad was ordinary. Chocolate brownies for dessert were great. The walk through the forest was a pleasant stroll and the river was lovely.

Spent a weekend to getaway at Maruia Springs. Won't be going back. The service was good and the accommodation clean and tidy. However, the food was less than average. Breakfast and dinner were included in our package, but when we checked out we were charged for our coffee and tea and for our extra slice of toast ($5.00). Tea and coffee should have been included in the deal. Evening dinner was so disappointing, the beef ragu was so dry and tasteless. The chicken curry was more like a stew.

Thank you for your honest review, we are sorry you did not enjoy the meals served and will pass this on to our chef team as we do look to improve all of our dishes served. If this was brought to our attention during your stay we would done what we could to rectify this. We do not advertise drinks included in our cooked breakfast package but are looking into this, there are charges for extras added on to all meals that we offer and this is quite common. We are glad you enjoyed our beautiful surroundings and hope you enjoyed our facilities as well.

Maruia is a very naturally beautiful spot and we booked our stay based on the premium reputation that it’s Australian counterpart Peninsula Hot Springs has, expecting a similar standard. Check in was strictly 3pm with guests waiting locked outside in the cold until that time despite there being a large guest lounge with a fireplace visible from the doors. There was also only one staff member on reception when it did open which meant that there was a significant wait time. We were late for massages that had been booked ahead of time thinking that we would be able to report to check in early. We ended up being handed a key and had to figure the rest out ourselves. Rooms are really nice, with the heated floors in the bathrooms a nice touch. It would have been handy to have microwave or toaster available, considering the remoteness of the location and limited meal times at the retreat. Meal times are within strangely limited windows and with a small selection but I assume that is due to the remote location. Tea and coffee in the cafe restaurant is not complementary. We would have hoped being a retreat that you could do things like eating at your own pace but that was not the case. Hot springs and the surrounding nature are very stunning and we really enjoyed our time in the hot pools. In summary, heaps of potential here to create a really unique luxury hot spring experience but we really felt the apparent squeeze of the current economic conditions at Maruia, hopefully things continue to improve with the return of tourism post Covid. Tips for those wanting to book: book a room with kitchenette facilities and bring your own food in if wanting to adhere to your own schedule.

Thank you for your feedback, we are happy to hear you enjoyed our rooms/ hot pools and beautiful surroundings. We do advertise check in at 3:00pm as well as have our weekly open hours listed on our website. If our staff on at that time are able to open little earlier we will do so however if we try to take too much on it does just cause problems. We understand you had a treatment and our staff do try to make sure our guests make it on time, if we have to push it back a few min this is generally not too much of an issue. We are a small team and do our best to help all guests without rushing anyone, if a convoy rolls up at once then there can be a little wait for check ins but does not usually last long. As we are so remote we do not offer any rooms with any cooking appliances as these can be a fire hazard and we are very far from any emergency services, this information is also listed on our website. We do take dinner seating times every 15 min from 6pm onwards, this gives guests a variety of seating times to choose from and seams to work quite well for most dining with us. We do look to improve on all aspects with everything we offer and take all feedback seriously , we are glad you enjoyed your upgraded room!

Left feeling ripped off, hungry and not very relaxed. The long cues at check in / out and lukewarm shower were overshadowed by the limited menu and small sized, tasteless meals that were served quickly , barely heated through. On top of this extra charges for coffee, WiFi and late check out left a large bill. The private pool, scenery and massage were highlights.

Hello, We are sorry you did not enjoy your experience with us, reception can get backed up a little at certain times but we do our best to tend to all guests and try not to rush anything while doing this. As we are a very remote location with no reception we do have wifi available for purchase if needed but encourage guests to disconnect for a day or two if they can. We do offer a late checkout at 12pm for a $20 charge and believe this is fair and a standard price, guests can use the facilities until 3pm the following day that is included in the room rates. If you did not enjoy the meals we would have certainly done something to rectify this as we do value our guests enjoying everything we offer. We are glad you enjoyed your massage and our beautiful surroundings. Thank you,

We returned after a great experience here last year! Stayed two nights which is great to get the full experience! Loved the sauna infusions and yoga with Maiju - she was fantastic and so knowledgeable and supportive! The meditation and breathing wellness class was pretty average as the teacher had her back to us most of the time despite there only being a small group in the session. We stayed in the deluxe glamping pods which were great however the sofa beds were very uncomfortable (you could literally feel each and every spring) and would benefit by having mattresses toppers. The pods also became a little slippery as it rained (and it does rain - welcome to the wild and wonderful west coast) so a bath mat or similar would be an easy and welcome addition. Dinner was delicious however on both occasions we have come, we have felt very rushed (it would be nice if they waited for everyone at the table to finish their food before clearing, and not reach across to give you/pick up your plate). Overall we had a great experience, with just a few comments that would take it to the ultimate escape and getaway! PS great to come in winter as there were very few mosquitoes/sandflys

Thank you for your review, we are glad you enjoyed the sauna infusions & yoga classes. We are sorry you did not appreciate the meditation classes but do think they are certainly not average as you will not find these offered anywhere else and we are proud of our staff that put these on. We are looking into adding mats the the pods as they can become a little slippery with water tracked in. We do feel that as it is advertised as a pull out sofa bed that is what should be expected. We will pass it on to our restaurant team about clearing after everyone is finished as definitely do not want anyone to feel rushed. We are very happy you enjoyed your dinner and our chefs will be happy to hear this!

A wonderful weekend away with my husband, 24 hours a day access to the hot springs, breakfast and dinner included in the rate and very yummy food. The accommodation was lovely, warm and comfortable. It is a great place to drop call into after a tramp or a lovely peaceful weekend away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Both my husband and I came back feeling relaxed and refreshed.
