We had a wonderful overnight stay whilst cycling the Otago Rail Trail.
Beautifully styled rooms . Clean & comfortable. We had a private dining room for 8 people for dinner at night & the meal was an unexpected gourmet meal. Could not fault it or the service. Breakfast was just as good :) Would highly recommend this establishment

My partner and I wanted to end our 3 month road trip around the South Island with a touch of luxury so we could unwind and relax while enjoying some good hospitality and service - thankfully Pitches Store delivered exactly that!
During our stay the staff were incredibly kind and really went the extra mile to make us feel warm, welcome and at home the entire time which added to the ambience of the already comforting atmosphere. We both enjoyed learning about the history of Pitches Store as well as Ophir from all of the historic information/ photographs displayed around the building, it made staying in the beautifully renovated historic building a very unique and special experience.
The bedding was super comfortable, rooms were clinically clean and food was to die for (breakfast spread was like nothing we had experienced before)! We stayed for 2 nights which also allowed us to spend some time exploring the rest of the towns historic sites, which ended up being a real highlight of ours.
I will be happily recommending Pitches Store to anyone planning to travel through Central Otago in future, as enjoying their selection of local wine from the outdoor courtyard and catching sunset from the spa is a must on any travel itinerary!

We were lucky this was our Rail Trail accommodation. What a sweet little spot and so worth the sixty second detour off the main road. We were warmly welcomed , facilities for bikers are excellent and we did appreciate the spa pool after the first day on the bike. There's an attractive array of cabinet food for and a consistent stream of locals popping in for coffee but it's well worth being in for lunch or dinner. The kitchen team were super-friendly and couldn't do enough for us, and the chicken and Apple tarte tartin were excellent. Breakfast the following morning was beautifully laid out and through-out local food and beverages were the focus, with the chef popping out to the kitchen garden often. The recently renovated rooms had everything we needed with a super bed too. Highly recommended stay in a beautiful historic building.
Gorgeous stay, highly recommended and can't wait to find a reason to come back.

A nice luxury option for accommodation along the Otago Rail Trail. Pitches is located in Ophir, near Omakau, about another 5-10 minutes on the bike from the trail. The guest service is very good and dinner is the main dining area which is open for lunch, coffee etc. Breakfast is in a separate room besides the kitchen and the guest rooms. The hot tub is a great way to relax after a day on the bike, and is easily accessed from your room across the private lawn. Went for the lamb loin (which has recently won some local tourism awards) and the house sorbet afterwards. Charging hub for e-bikes is beside the carpark, the owners have applied for a shelter which is subject to heritage approvals. Once again we were treated to excellent hospitality and service which we consistently encounter in NZ.

On the central Otago Railtrack ride cycle and Pitches Store was recommended by SheBikesHeBikes.
What a wonderful recommendation.
You know its going to be good when the owner David comes out to the carpark and greets you by name.
Small touches make good great. Such as, after cycling for 6hours in 30degree heat, being ushered into you room which is cold from having the aircon turned on a few hours later.
Dinner was amazing, dessert was great.
Anyone in the vicinity who needs accomodation, say hello to Colleen n David of Pitchers Store.

Lovely warm, luxurious accommodation and friendly welcoming service. Super comfortable beds. Delicious meals served with care and friendliness. Nice location for rail trail cycling or driving around the area. Bookings probably necessary for dinner as the restaurant was busy even midweek

Warm welcome, nice rooms, really quiet. Spa out the back for the weary legs.
Dinner was booked through Bike It Now and was locally sourced and perfectly cooked. The owner knows her local wines and has a really good selection. We were made to feel at home.
Breakfast was above and beyond. You will never leave this place hungry. We had cereal, fruit, yoghurt, croissants, fruit toast, rye toast with locally sourced jams and honey. Coffee from the espresso machine and freshly squeezed juice. It was one to remember.
The Ophir Suspension Bridge is a short 10 minute walk away.

Our stay here was arranged by Cycle Surgery as part of our Rail Trail package.
I must say we were very impressed with every aspect of Pitches Store. To find this level of accommodation in "small town NZ" is a credit to the the owners. Well done.

Stayed at this wonderful place recently when riding the Otago Rail trail. Accommodation was pre-booked by the riding company and we were unsure of what we would get. How surprised we were. This place is fantastic and is steeped in history. The food and service was fantastic. Many thanks!
