Rooms very overpriced but the restaurant was good. Overall just somewhere I wouldn’t stay again it’s very all over the show and for $175per night for two tiny single beds in a tiny room with no room to really move. Currently on the market so likely reflects the room price.

Friendly service and great food and delicious local wine in a cozy historic hotel. There was a brief power cut which didn't bother us at all. We had dinner by candlelight and our food arrived no problem at all. Would recommend.

Had a great evening here with excellent value family style meal for our group of 13. Busy surroundings generated plenty of conversation as we enjoyed a drink before an excellent, generous meal. Overall great atmosphere.

Omakau was our first overnight stop whilst cycling the Otago central rail trail at the end of March and Blacks Hotel was the obvious choice for an evening meal for the four of us. We had booked in advance and arrived early and enjoyed relaxing drinks in the garden. Service was prompt and the staff were lovely. Two of us opted for the lamb shoulder (recommended by a fellow cyclist we passed on the trail), it didn’t disappoint. The other two opted for the steak, which was huge and tasty and prawn cocktail as a main. Overall we had an great evening. Thanks Sandy nice to meet you all, we’ll definitely call in again. I found this place rather difficult to get hold of. They didn't respond to emails or answer the phone. When I finally got a booking, and then had to cancel because of a change to our travel plans, they hadn't checked their messages and still turned up to pick us up for dinner. We tried to make it up to them by cycling over the next day for lunch, but they weren't open. Finally dropped in for a drink on our last day and saw that it was a lovely old place with lots of history, and a very friendly pug.
