I stayed here before and after doing the Rail Trail. Lynette is a great host who makes sure you have everything you need. The place is clean, comfortable, has WiFi and a great lounge/kitchen area. I would definitely stay again.

We were lucky enough to be the first group to stay with the new owners - who are just wonderful and friendly people. Our group occupied 3 of their rooms; two contained an ensuite and small kitchenette and the third had two sets of bunks for the family with small children. A great place to stay after a long day on the bikes (doing the Otago Rail Trail). We had turned up late, near dark and all very tired. They both were so lovely, it felt like coming home after a long day. A massive choose for breakfast. We wish them the best of luck with their new adventure.

Comfortable, basic, served a purpose. Room was small, but comfortable shower was good. Breakfast optional extra for $10 need to order night before. We had deluxe room with on suite, other rooms 4 bunks and shared facilities in block.

I found this place accidentally, and was so hlad I did!
Ophir is an old gold mining town and the old buildings are wonderful.
The kitchen and bathrooms are in a seperate block from the rooms.
There are littlw touches around the lodge (flowers in bathroom, fruit in kitchen, soap on beds), that show that the owners really care about making it a welcoming place.
Highly recommend!

This place is situated in a sleepy town so it is peaceful and quiet. There are several cabins surrounding the central block where you can find the cozy kitchen/living room, as well as the washrooms. The owner is friendly and so is her dog. I paid the price of a dorm bed and I was lucky to have one cabin to myself. Towel is provided and there is free wifi (okay in the central block but weak signal in the cabin). The town Ophir has only one restaurant and is dead quiet at night, but luckily Alexandra is just a 20 minute drive away with gas stations and numerous restaurants. Ophir can be very cold at night. When I was there (in March) it was 20°C during the day and 4°C at night. There is no heating in the cabin so wear more clothes before going to bed. Overall this place offers value for money as it has one of the lowest prices in the Central Otago region.
