We have so much enjoyed our brief stay here. The hospitality was very warm and we felt like home.
Everything was wonderful; the views, the sheep, doing yoga in the garden at 6.30am to the sunrise (coming from the other side of the world, we were a wee bit jet-lagged :P ), the breakfast, the chat with our lovely hosts Jenny and John.
We loved it and will remember always!
Highly recommended!

We only stayed there for one night on our way to the Waikomo Caves and we highly recommend it. We wish we could have stayed there for longer just to get to meet the hosts better. Breakfast is included and is wonderful! Jenny's cooking is to die for and John is very well travelled and will entertain you with his stories. The scenery around the home is amazing! I can see how you can have a wedding there.

We had some difficulty locating the somersal house at first and had to call our lovely host Jenny for some help in directions... But other than that, everything was lovely!

The house was very pretty and lotsa personal touches everywhere, we felt right at home. The bedrooms was really big and had everything you need in them. I especially loved the bathrooms! Jenny had all sorts of nice toiletries and even styling tongs and iron in the drawers. You have a private entry to the rooms if you prefer abit more privacy. Jenny gave lotsa recommendations on where to dine as well and the guys had a nice little chat with John before bedtime.

Breakfast cooked by Jenny was sumptuous! Its a pity we only had 1 night there, would love to stay longer to explore the grounds abit more... Will definitely be back again when we visit NZ again!

The Queen en-suite room has the most amazing sunset from the patio doors and terrace. We were only staying one night, en-route to Waitomo Caves, and this was a most pleasant stay. The hosts are very charming and provided us with a welcome cuppa and cake in their lounge on arrival. After a short visit to Pirongia Forest, we sat and watched the sunset from outside our room, absolutely beautiful. Everything is provided in the room, ie kettle, toiletries, robes etc and breakfast was a grand affair of a buffet of traditional hot and cold treats with a huge cafetiere pot of coffee.. If you like a cooked breakfast to set you up before your travels, Somersal is an ideal choice. Very relaxing stay, thank you John and Jenny.

Really sweet B&B in a very beautiful setting. The hosts John and Jenny were so lovely and did a fantastic breakfast for us! It's also in a good location being short drives to tourist attractions but not too close to any of them, and a lovely small town/village with a really nice local pub/restaurant which did great food.

Mr runs this place while his wife heads out to the office. And he does a fantastic job, the rooms are clean and well appointed, breakfast was substantial and well done. The price was exceptional, although be prepared with cash on hand. The grounds are stunning, a great many private seating areas, a pool and walking distance to downtown Pirongia

Usually I don’t write a review, but there’s something I like to share.
I stayed there 1 night in Feb 2016. It’s also my 1st night in my life in New Zealand. Upon arrival, everything was great, nice welcome from husband and wife, clean room, bath, bed/sheet, and beautiful garden, etc.

At night, bugs issue emerged. The room I stayed had one big window. When I was in the room surfing internet (light is on) with open window, bugs flew in, very annoying. If I closed the window, it’s too hot. In the end, I decided to turn light off, keep the window open, and surf internet in bath room, because I liked to keep my room bug free and cool.

During this time, Expedia emailed me to give quick review (meaning few words only), and I did.
Question 1: Any issue with your stay?
Answer: Many bugs
Question 2: Rate the hotel location
Answer: Not great location

Next morning, when I was saying goodbye to them, they surprised me in 2 things, my review and cash payment.

Review – they confronted me and said they’re very disappointed. After explaining bugs issue, husband responded “if I told him, he could offer me a fan”, which is true. Then wife continued on location. Well, to me, great location means convenient (close to supermarket, downtown, or next attraction, etc). It’s lying to me to say great location, since I don’t think it’s convenient. Honestly, I think the location is OK and acceptable (maybe I should write that down instead), since I know where it’s located when booking. The wife was quite pissed, and said goodbye to husband, wished me having a good trip (tone is not nice), and stormed out and closed the door loudly (to me).

I was quite surprised her reaction but I did not really care, because I got to solve payment issue. Husband said I need to pay “Cash” NZ $160 and Expedia did not charge on my CC, even though I entered CC info when booking. Also, husband emphasized he emailed me about cash payment 4 days prior to arrival, which I believed him but I did not see that email. In the end, I paid NZ $160 in “Cash” and left me with NZ $40 cash for the remaining 5 days trip in North island.

Bottom line

Would I recommend other to stay here? YES, given how much they care about review, it indicates they do want to run B&B well, plus facility is good (as long as you’re ok with Cash only, and you don’t give bad review while you are still staying there)

Would I stay here again? No, I like to pay with credit card to earn points for my future trip. Hotel Cash only!? Come on, are we in stone age?

In response to this review, this guest was told that leaving the lights on with windows and doors open would attract insects into his room at that time of the year and additionally it is written in the information folder in the room. When booking accommodation on our website, the location is clearly given and it states payment is in cash only, there are no credit card facilities. The credit card confirms the booking. We do send an email a few days before regarding the payment needing to be made in cash as a reminder. It is very disappointing to receive these review points that had been clearly explained at the outset. We do hope you enjoyed your visit to NZ.

Let's Start by saying the Hosts John and Jenny are Great . We stayed in the Deluxe Queen Room with Separate Bathroom, felt that it was not well designed ,could not locate a power point in which to boil a kettle. Shaving Mirror at your back . Boiled the Kettle by removing T.V. Power Point. Could have done with a second bed side table. Had to Balance the Water on the Chair . Having made these observations the best to Come. Breakfast was superior and plenty to choice from A nice breakfast room and great gardens. The B & B is set well back from the Highway, Free WiFi Did not get to look at the other room would go for that should we return.

In response, there are 4 double power points in this room so plenty to choose from to boil a kettle and two of these double power points are beside a table. The mirror is there because there is a window in front of the hand basin and there are no walls either side close enough. A great pity this guest did not look further or ask us for assistance at the time. So pleased you were happy with the breakfast and the gardens but such a shame your review warranted such a headline

We arrived around 6:00pm (18:00). The owners greeted us and showed us our very nice, spacious room and bathroom. We asked them to recommend a place for us to find dinner. They recommended the Alexandra Hotel, which is where we went. I've written more about it in another review. It was a good recommendation. The B&B room was nice, and it included a small library and a large TV with many channels. In the morning, we went to the kitchen at 8:30, where a great breakfast was waiting for us. There was juice, cereal, pineapple, kiwi, grapes, and toasted breakfast croissant sandwiches (salmon and avocado; bacon, egg and cheese). Both sandwiches were very good. The husband and wife were very friendly and proud of NZ. They taught us a lot about their great country that we didn't know. If we return to NZ, we will stay there again. Travelers should know that this B&B accepts only cash. Everywhere else we stayed accepted online payment or credit card. I almost forgot about the "only cash" policy, but I went to an ATM before arriving in Pirongia. When we departed after breakfast, on our way to the Waitomo Caves, we noticed the beautiful grounds. There is a pond, bridge, and a lot of foliage.
