Friends of ours had their beautiful summer wedding here several years ago and the wedding party booked the cottages for their weekend. We booked for a few nights to getaway and experience some peace and tranquility without the long drive. Bethells Beach can be a bit gnarly and wild in the winter.. just what the doctor ordered!😊 We booked the the 1 bedroom ‘Turehu’ cottage directly from their website which suited us perfectly. BBC has two other beautiful cottages all boasting incredible views and facilities. Our hosts Trudy and John have a lot of time and energy into their property ensuring guests have a truly magnificent experience. Cottages are quirky and quaint, bathrooms and bedroom, lounge and patio are spacious and complete with outdoor fire. There is a full kitchen with everything you need to cook up a feast! We opted to take our own food and beverage however Trudy will cook delicious meals if this is booked in advance. John is a man of land and will be happy to share stories and knowledge of the area. We enjoyed lovely walks on the beach, open fires at our cottage, and star gazing in the hot tub at night. The West Coast has a lot to offer for the hard core explorers and my feeling is the Bethells Beach Community are doing their best offer this despite the many summer storms that have ravaged the area. The only disappointment was we had to come back to Auckland city. We’ll be back for sure !!…

This is an lovely place to enjoy your time in Auckland and the surrounding awesome beach of Bethells Beach and nearby Piha Beach.The views are extraordinary, accommodations are lovely and comfortable and you can enjoy privacy and plenty of room. John and Trude were lovely hosts and we greatly enjoyed our time at Bethells Beach cottages. Close to Swanson rail station for a convenient trip to Auckland as well.

This is an incredible place to relax and unwind. A beautiful location with stunning views overlooking the beach. The little cottage was warm and cozy with the sun streaming in throughout the day. Cooking on the outdoor BBQ as the sun sets over the ocean below was magic and soaking in the hot tub under the stars before bed made for extra deep sleeping. A great stay.

We returned to this magical spot where we got married 20 years ago and it was just as special as we remember! We enjoyed our time relaxing in the comfortable hammock overlooking one of the best views in the country and soaking in our private kiwi hot tub on our patio while we watched the sun set! The Terehu cottage has a unique character and rustic charm with it's beautiful conservatory & bathroom. The bed is extremely comfortable and we loved the quality of the linen & towels. We also enjoyed our game of table tennis in the pavilion. Thank you Trude and John!

We really enjoyed our stay here over the long weekend, super friendly and welcoming hosts with little touches that made the difference. The views didn't let us down and we were super lucky with excellent sunny weather and little wind. We stayed in the apartment and while not spacious or luxurious gave us everything we needed. The patio right outside the door was great, as was the wood fired BBQ. The jot tub is also very close and lovely. The TV is in the bedroom rather than the living room but we didn't use it. Wifi was good and I was able to live stream some sport no worries. I made use of the massage service and the therapist was truly excellent, the remedial treatment I got was up there with anything I have ever experienced. This place may not be for the luxury traveler who wants marble bathrooms and soft plush furnishings but it was just what we were after, we'll be back for sure.…

The best views in Bethell's Beach. Remote enough to be a genuine escape. Activity wise - Te Tenga walkway and a world class beach break at your doorstep, and close proximity to Central Auckland make this an easy rewarding, and relaxing getaway from the hustle and bustle. Highly recommend.

You’ve got to come here! It’s utterly relaxed, cosy and beautiful in all senses. Our stress melted away. We really enjoyed our weekend getaway here: from the views to the hot tub to the fireplace to the comfort and the warm welcome. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a romantic, cool, relaxed, bohemian escape!

Thank you so much Trude and John for being such gracious hosts and for your time and caring when we arrived. The cake and glass of bubbles was a wonderful surprise and much appreciated, giving a personal touch. We stayed in the beautiful Turehu cottage with the most magnificent views. Although this rustic cottage is the older of the three it is well equipped and clean and tidy with a great choice of magazines and books. All and all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back many more times. This is now a favourite holiday destination for us. We loved exploring the beach and lake.

We spent 2 wonderful days in Bethell’s beach. Our favourite beach in NZ so far. The location and views are spectacular. We were in the apartment which was very comfortable and spacious and well stocked and had everything we needed. John and Trude we great hosts. Their advice about walks and events is in the area made the stay even better. Don’t miss Friday night music at the beach if you are there. Accommodation near the beach is at a premium and, for us, this was a perfect place to stay while we were there.

This place is not for everyone: if you prioritize great views + relaxed beach hippie atmosphere and everything else is totally irrelevant, then this place is for you - my husband liked it very much. But I found it really hard to relax in a place where cockroaches try to sneak into my bag, there's dust and cobwebs and old stuff everywhere, towels are torn & ancient and smell funky, and where everything seems to be updated last time in the 1990s (though this can also be interesting if you're in for retro stuff). All this would be ok if it was cheap and you'd know you'll be getting more like grandma's cottage, but it's definately not cheap here because of Auckland tourists, which seemed to be the case in Piha as well. We had Turehu cottage and did appreciate: - the lovely big lawn with great views, though remember that the lawn will not be that green during the dry season - starry skies, sound of the sea - cottage with character and the terrace is lovely - hosts are very friendly and helpful + the history of the area is interesting, great advice on what to see. We did not appreciate: - cockroaches - old and dirty kitchenware, torn towels, old linens that felt like they hadn't been changed at all, the cluttered bedroom full of old stuff; in general the lack of maintenance and thorough cleaning compared to the price. This place would be amazing with a little update. All in all I recommend to only take a day trip to the area, unless you really want the beach hippie experience/the view.…

Thank you, the towels and all linen are washed and on the line for at least 6-8 hours for drying, then finished in the dryer. Maybe I will change the washing powder that I have used for over 10 years. The cotton ends I have just found a similar fabric and about to sew new ends on. Spring clean is being completed and concerns noted. Thank you for positive feed back as we do put a huge amount of effort in. Would love to have talked personally. Have an awesome 2020 and we look forward to welcoming you back.
