We arrived at the HR El Mondalón by car mid afternoon and was met by Alfin who was very helpful and informative. He explained the covid rules locally and showed us around the site and our room. He also explained the restaurant that was on site, that it also open to the general public was not going to open until the 1st March. As we had a long day travelling Alfin organised for a chef to come into the breakfast kitchen to cook an a 3 course evening meal for us which was outstanding. The room was really comfortable and house keeping comes in every day, which isn't always the case. Most guest arrive by their hire cars, although a couple did arrive by local bus. The pool was quiet most of the time. There is an international school across the other side of the road. We found it nice to hear kids just playing or playing sport the hooter for sessions ends is not intrusive. There is a very good restaurant 15-20 minutes walk up hill Restaurant Miranda which is very good. All in all we were very happy with our week at the El Mondalón.

Highly recommended hotel to go as a couple and with friends. Charming and very independent rooms. Excellent treatment, not burdened and when needed. The services are professional and you can see ex officio. Everything super clean. We'll be back whenever we can.

I was totally amazed at the beauty and peace Hotel Rural el Mondalon gave - not too far from the city but why would you want to go there anyway when everything was at the hotel. Great pool, lovely food and friendly helpful staff. The only hitch was getting in but a minor problem soon ironed out and I would love to go back!

This hotel has very few services and very little staff. The staff that was there was very nice. They advertise having a restaurant on site, which is not true. It’s closed and has been for sometime which had learned after reading all of the reviews once we were already there. There is breakfast service from 8 to 10. It is strictly buffet, and below average compared to what we have experienced in the Canary islands and Spain. There is a great folder on hikes in the reception, but the reception was not open even once that we saw, except when we checked in. We had to call a number for them to check us in.. The room was dark and the desk lamp was broken. It open onto a terrace that was lovely, but had no sun most of the day. Fortunately, we were out hiking most days. Housekeepers are extremely nice, but they do not replace toilet paper and on our last day they did not replace towels but, oddly, left shower caps on our last day. The soap dispensers at the sink, and in the shower are very difficult to work and we could only get a drop at a time. Fortunately, we had our own shampoo and soap. This all seemed very odd for a 4 hotel. My sense was that the owner or manager was totally absent and had perhaps given up on the property. The one employee who seemed to be in charge and who was very nice was also the groundskeeper and mechanic as far as I could tell. It was well located for the hikes we were doing, but there are better options not far away.

Accommodation was spacious, clean and comfortable. Plenty of hot water and a very comfortable bed.
Tea and coffee making facilities don't get topped up and there was no milk.
We managed to scrounge some UHT off reception but you may wish to stop in at the supermarket an the way from the airport. Plus bring your own tea bags with you.
Unfortunately not as rural as we were hoping. This hotel is actually on the GC801 which, in addition to carrying lots of local traffic, is also a busy cut through during the morning and afternoon rush hours.
Added to this it is immediately opposite a school, so you get the school run traffic too and the noise of the playgrounds, sports sessions and the wail of the siren announcing starting and finishing times of lessons and breaks.
No immediate access to the surrounding countryside, so if you want to go for a hike you will need a hire car and a good map.
Nothing to do on site, so you will need to get out and about.
This will not be a beach holiday!
Swimming pool is supposedly heated but only by solar power, so if like us you arrive during a period of unseasonably cool cloudy windy and wet weather the water will be too cold to swim in. Might have been better if they'd put the cover on the pool at night, but in the 7 nights we were there the pool cover was not used at all.
We had intended to use the hotel restaurant every evening during our stay rather than venturing out in the dark but unfortunately that didn't work out.
We arrived with our hire car from the airport late afternoon on the Monday, looking forward to settling in to the hotel and to having a leisurely evening in.
No such luck: the restaurant is closed on Mondays!
So we had to head out in the hire car in the dark to try to find somewhere else to eat. Then try to find our way back again (which took some time as we got lost several times!).
The following evening at 6.00p.m. we booked a table for the hotel restaurant for 7.30 p.m..
At 7.30 we duly turned up only to be told that the restaurant didn't open until 8.00p.m.. In due course we were allowed to sit down.
The menu is only available via a QR code that one is expected to scan with a Smart Phone. I do not have a Smart Phone so requested a paper version. There is no paper version available.
Eventually we did manage to order but despite the restaurant being almost empty the service was abysmal. I received my food and had finished eating it 35 minutes before my wife was served her meal.
By then we had given up caring and so gave up and went to bed.
Needless to say, from then on we dined out away from the hotel every night!
Once you learn your way about there are some good restaurants within easy reach... Bodegon Vandama is well worth tracking down and Restaurant Miranda is literally just up the road.
We didn't appreciate just how busy this north-east corner of Gran Canaria is and will be looking for something rather more peaceful next time.

Nice location, quiet, relaxing.
The rooms need improvement.
The bathrooms need renovation.
We visited 3 different rooms.
The staff was very friendly.
The high price for the quality of housing.
Strategic point to get around the island.

We were greeted by the manager who showed us our room. It was smallish but well-furnished with a balcony and a view over the lovely countryside. The bed was large and extremely comfortable. The pool is an infinity one and the area round it, spacious and well-kept. We booked half -board and were delighted with the choice for dinner and the breakfast, which was huge. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

We have stayed for 5 days/4 nights in this hotel, during Christmas Holidays (new years). The hotel is very centrally located on Gran Canaria, being close to the mountains, Las Palmas (a small 20 minutes to Las Canteras beach), easy access to the south and to the north. We used the car on a daily basis, as the venue is located on the countryside/village. The welcome was very warm, we were given a show around and forwarded to the pool with towels as we were too early. The room was beautiful - nicely decorated, fantastic beds (Tempur style) and spacious. The breakfast was ready made - all put together on a plate. Eggs/toast/etc on demand - this was of decent quality. The quality of the ingredients (jam, the bake off bread) was a bit below expected standards. The last day we were offered a brunch in buffet style - this would have been great for the other days too, as this would have prevented waste (Most of the days I did only eat half of what was prepared for me). Tip for the management of the hotel; why not making use of local ingredients, like jam, honey, etc.? That would certainly add to the experience and is a perfect match with the 'countryside' feeling. The tips of Lorena (director of the hotel) for visits and trips at the island were perfect! This has certainly given our holiday an original twist. Some recommendations for visiting; the natural baths at Agaete, the Roque Nublo, La Garida restaurant close to Melenara, driving to Tejeda.

The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, the hotel is extremely clean and the rooms are beautiful. Situated up in the hills away from the main town this hotel could hardly have a more rural feel and look while still being a very short drive to the local shops.

You will be surrounded by mountains from the local national park and you can even take a 45 minute hike from the hotel up the mountainside for a brilliant panorama over the vineyards surrounding the grounds.

This is ideally placed for anyone with a car wanting to explore the island (like we did). 30 minute drive to Las Palmas, 45 minute drive to the south (Maspalomas / Peurto de Mogan) or around 50 minutes drive to Tejeda / Roque Nublo etc. 20 minutes to the airport (as long as you get your head around the highway junctions).

Very tasty food in the restaurant with a decent breakfast in the morning too.

I would happily stay here again and again.

What a wonderful suprise to find this excellent Rural Hotel away from the madening crowd and yet close enough to everywhere! Tucked away under the mountains just outside Las Palmas with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. It is beatufully restored and tastful decor, bedrooms very comfortable with every detail considered. I was only there for a business trip but we intend to go back to enjoy the peace and tranquility of this really well run boutique hotel as soon as possible!
