Detailed Reviews
Our host's were lovely and hospitable. The accommodation was light and airy. The comfy double bed was wrought iron with gold colored accents. I had an en-suite bathroom and the fixtures and fittings were clean and modern. The towels were super soft and fluffy and there were complimentary toiletries available.
My accommodation had the fire chimney in the room, so it was really toasty on a cold night.
Tip: There was no closet in the room. There is a chest of draws. I recommend that you bring a couple of coat hangers which you can hang on to the coat hooks (fitted on the wall).
The bar area was busy in the evening and the locals were very welcoming.
The meal was tasty and the portion was large.
Highly recommend turning off SH 1 to visit this little gem of a hotel.

This small hotel far exceeded our expectations and we wish we had known about it, some years ago, when we wanted to break our journey from Northland to Wellington.
This hotel is very welcoming and, on arrival, we immediately felt at ease. Our en-suite room was so individual it could have been in a private house. It was refreshingly different from, and preferable to the bland characterless motels that abound in New Zealand.
The bedroom was very clean with a thick pile carpet, the bed comfortable with quality bedding, and the bathroom modern with large fluffy towels and a good assortment of toiletries.
My wife and I have high expectations and the Station Hotel delivered

We had a staff meeting and meal at the Station Hotel. Great venue with a private dining room we used for our meeting. It was an evening meal with a variety of lovely salads, and pudding with tea and coffee. The dining room had doors out to the garden and made a great relaxed space for the staff to get together. The staff were brilliant and easy to deal with. Would highly recommend.

Spent 2 nights here under the wonderful care of Sandy and Bryon the owners of this beautiful old pub. Its charming, spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, comfortable and homely. The pretty brass bed was extremely comfortable. Going down in the morning to the country cottage breakfast room was a real treat with the log fire going and a wonderful selection for breakfast.
The bar staff were friendly and efficient. The meals were generous in their portions, fresh & tasty...great value.
Cannot fault our stay here, we were so welcomed and felt like family by the time we left. A definite must stay if you are ever in this neck of the woods...if not....take a trip. Highly recommended.

Old fashioned country hotel with lovely clean and nicely decorated rooms with really comfortable beds. All at a very reasonable tariff. Meals are available, but a great place to stay to explore Hunterville and the beautiful Rangitikei region.
Bathrooms are roomy and well appointed, as are the ensuites.

Didn’t even know this was tucked away nor far from the highway & we drive through often enough. Brian very friendly when we checked in. He’s spent a lot of time & money getting this old hotel looking great. Rooms spotless with crisp white sheets. Pub type meals sold in the bar were good. I’m sure we’ll use again.

A great place to stay that takes you back in time. Staff were very friendly, everything was spotlessly clean, the decor was tastefully done and authentic.
We ordered hamburger & pizza from the menu - these were fantastic!

Great pub food, with large steaks of good quality. Had a good chat with friendly locals at the bar.
Somewhat rustic in the ‘single men’s quarters’ out the back - and not very quiet - but highly entertaining.

Went with a group of friends for a golfing weekend. One of the guys in our party was gluten free but after dinner became quite ill - effects of gluten in the meal. The owner didnt want to hear of it and flatly refused it could have been the meal. The same thing for breakfast, he asked not to have the sausages but this fell on deaf ears -meal served with everything on the plate. Owned by a couple and the husband was as unfriendly as the wife was friendly. These small things go a long way. Won't be rushing back.

This was a unplanned stay, due to extreme weather and closed highways. The power was out, however the warmth from the owner, staff and locals was wonderful. The rooms and shared bathroom were an absolute delight, leaving some of the bigger hotels Ive visited to shame. If I ever have the opportunity I would definitely stay again. A big beauty. An absolute pleasure!
