Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great owners - sorted out making sure I could get into my room after my ferries were cancelled/delayed and generally running very late. Awesome to have that flexibility and helpfulness. Also nice and quiet to get a good nights sleep which helped!

Spent one night in the middle of winter at the Marton motel. I could have stayed the whole week. Our twin bed room had everything we needed. It was well maintained and comfortable. The room was warm and welcoming. As for the shower I have never had such strong water pressure any where before. Fantastic location, Friendly reception, Easy parking. A great place to start our week.

Easy place to find - nice and quiet. Very clean and tidy. Good price. Hosts were friendly and helpful - especially recommending a good place for dining. Warm with the heaters cranked up. Ideal overnight stop to break up our trip.

Stayed at Marton Motel and won't again. Smudged glassware, Chipped cup, Food left on cooking pots/frypan
Hair on a bowl. Kitchen utensils were also victims with leftover food on them.Microwave was clean though along with fridge. Single bed was very soft. Really disappointing.

Stayed one night. Arrived 10:30pm, left 10:30am. On line booking, but phoned to say we'd be late. Not a problem. Nice, very clean motel room. Everything worked. Could not ask for more. Made me wonder why you spend more around the country and often get less.
Highly recommended!

Really big, clean and comfortable place to stay. Tqo large bedrooms and well equiped kitchen and bathroom. Perfect if heading North after an afternoon ferry crossing. Definitely recommend this motel for couples or families. Welcoming host who had no problem waiting for our late arrival.

Unfortunately not a good experience that I had. The bed linen was dirty. I slept on towels bedding was filthy. Tried different cushions but to no avail, hair on all the cushions and stains on bedding and cushions. The cups had stains and ring marks on the inside. Will not come back, rather go to Bulls, Whanganui, or Palmerton North and drive to do my work. Sorry guys but it's true.

I arrived at the motel to book in
The lady at the counter was pleasant but the male at the counter was quite rude
I as asked if I was alone and I said no I was with my wife
He said I had only booked in for one person - and it was a studio room so was only for one person
The lady said could would we be sleeping in one bed
I replied My wife gets upset if I sleep in another bed so yes
The rude person said we would have to move you to another room - considering we had a queen bed in one room and we were going to sleep together I saw no problem with the room we had
He then changed the $105 to $125 and went to walk away
I asked him what it was for and he replied We charge per person
I replied This is probably the only place in NZ that charges per person and I have stayed in a lot of motels and hotels in NZ
He Replied We have been doing it for two years and its not a problem
I replied I would pay that amount and I would be putting this on Trip Adviser as I think it is a rip off
He said Your bookings cancelled and walked off

He could have handled this a lot better as I was a customer - if he had left it to the lady who was quite pleasant this exchange would probably not have happened.
I have stayed in a lot of motels - hotels and have never had this sort of problem - perhaps he should go to a few customer service courses

Response from David-Carol005, Owner at Marton Motel
Responded 4 Apr 2019
Mr. K. Amos You booked your room through Marton Motel website. The details are very clear and easy to understand when making a booking for 1 or more guests. The website clearly states from $105,you made your booking for 1 person, even though you had 3 persons in the car. So you reckon if you had booked the family room for $125, you could bring 5 more guests and pay only $125. The fact you mentioned we were a rip off twice!!!, this is the reason I asked you to leave and you left, I had not walked away. We are not the only Motel in NZ that charges a room rate and then $20 per extra person. So you may want to rethink your review and be more truthful when making a review in the future. Yes, the Lady behind the counter was the nice one, that is the most honest part of your review Mr.Amos.

From the outside you would think it was a typical NZL motel. And it was. BUT the reception I got was unbelievable. When I asked about a taxi I was offered a ride to nearby Bulls. I had friends arriving so there was no need to take up the offer. We were having lunch on the run when a sun umbrella was put up for us in an outside bar-b-que area. The unit was large and very clean. The TV had a few Sky channels and plenty of free to air channels. Tea and coffee making facilities with real milk. This motel is first class and excellent value. If the need arose I would definitely stay again.
